I want to take a genetic DNA test to confirm my identity. I am African-American, Canadian, German, Jamaican, and Native American (I think Cherokee). I would love to do a DNA test (one of the expensive, expansive ones) to figure out more of my ancestry.

So.... Something went wrong with my dads test results. They can't test his saliva. I'm calling to find out what went wrong. It must be user error. Or he has alien DNA. Could be both.

They're sending another kit for free. Thank goodness. I guess the kit itself isn't that expensive to make so the $100 charge is for the actual testing.

I got my results back and was a little surprised...59% British Isles and 27% Scandinavian, with 14% uncertain...I was a little shocked about the Scandinavian bit but even more shocked there is mention of Native American. I'd been told for years our family had a heavy Native American influence, but I guess maybe it 's in that 14%. But it has helped me find others who are descended from a common ancestor so I think it was worth it. I'm a total genealogy geek!

That's great! I'm a genealogy geek too. Was it expensive, comprehensive ancestry results or was it one of the really cheap ones that are about $100, $200? As I said in my previous post in here, I am of Jamaican, Canadian, German, Native American (I think Cherokee), and African American descent. I would love to have that confirmed through a genetic DNA test.

I'm not Amandacurls, but I think she tested with one of the more reasonable tests, specifically Ancestry's DNA test. It's $99.

I would say she did too. I'm not sure which one my cousin used. I have a good friend who used the Nat Geo test and it mentioned a Neanderthal finger found in a cave in Siberia. Her DNA tied into that. I am thinking my cousin used NG or something else because it mentioned specific rivers and areas.

I'm going to test my dad soon. I'm trying to prove whether or not my paternal great-great-grandmother was partly Native American. I must say that genealogical research has become a hobby of mine, lol!

I think I'm going to go with 23 and Me because I'd also like the medical results, so I can know what I need to look out for. I'm a bit of afraid all my results will come back uncertain because I've heard so many things.

The New Black, what are you confused about? Is it the population references?
