When I was in school, way long ago in the 1970's, we used to get in trouble for doing "the bump". It was thought to be a naughty dance. Every generation has a naughty dance. Elvis Presley couldn't be on TV because he wiggled his hips too much. I really just don't see the crime of these twerking dancers. The music that accompanied the video was filthy. I'd be more upset about that than the dancing.

Right? Twerking isn't new. And hip hop wasn't considered art until white people started taking ~lessons.

Idk I've learned a lot of traditional african dances from friends and a lot of those are shaking your butt. And I consider that art. Idk why shaking your butt is considered something sexual but not artistic. Thats so silly.

They're being a bit dramatic.
I was always annoyed by Miley, but I enjoyed her twerk video so much I watch it 5 times. O.o

Then I watched her interview with Ryan Seacrest and found her to be adorable. Gah, Miley.

watching her twerk changed my life.

Wasn't there a thread about little kids doing some booty dances and everyone (probably me included at the time) was like DISTURBIA, and then someone educated everyone and was like "that's their culture" So odd to defend twerking but, butts aren't bad.

I remember that thread from a few years ago. If I recall, the video was little children humping each other to music...like actual dry humping. They weren't teens. I guess I see a difference between little kids and teens. And I see a difference between humping and booty shaking.

There are who are famous because of twerking why? There is a video of a father spanking his two daughters because he caught them making a twerk video. Everyone made a big deal out of it and said he was abusing them because he used a belt and used force. I don't think it's slut slamming, the punishment to be suspended and not participate in graduation and prom is a common punishment, when I was in high school kids received it for fighting, talking back, and ditching class. Males and females alike.
That's what I'm saying. Twerking is not about dancing. It's a purely sexual thing. Why else would it be their ass that they're shaking?

Lmafo, what thread? Somebody link it.

I like to see some booty shaking occasionally, but not kids...watching that I would feel paranoid like Chris Hansen could walk in at any moment and ask me to have a seat.

Butts are not bad at all, butts are the only reason I watch football.a

Going full force with a cord isn't spanking

The father was charged for it, too.

The girls were twerking in church? On eachother?

Hmmm.... It reminds me of grinding/freaking when I was a kid.

I saw this on world star hip hop... I thought getting hit with a belt was bad, but there are children out there getting hit with whatever object is closest to the parent.

I don't feel the offence was that bad to be hit full force by a grown man, it almost feels like a violation of basic human rights.

We all remember the middle school dances where the only kind of dancing going on was grinding...well at least here in the bay area.

I went to public and private schools and one very liberal, student-lead high school and that was never allowed.

I went to a private Catholic high school where it wasn't allowed either but students still did it and got away with it.

It's never allowed. Kids always do it though. Should they all miss prom and graduation?

I have to wonder if there isn't an element of racism in this extremely heavy punishment for twerking. Seems like if a dance move originated with the hip hop crowd (i.e. Black people), it might be seen as more sexual than if white kids invented it. Black people are still seen as hyper-sexual by some white folks...probably goes back to slavery days and the black-buck-Mandingo kind of thing.

Right? We did all kinds of nasty (that is the whole point) at school dances, and no one ever said a word. I do think borrowing the AV equipment to make and share a video on school grounds would have been a different story though.
So many videos now are made for shock value alone. Twerk at Walmart, twerk in the library, twerk in the post office, twerk at McDonalds, and twerk at school. It will look good on your resume when future employers check your on line activity. :-/

I have no issue with the dance. I've that and much worse on the dance floor. I do think they should have been punished, but I am not sure what I think about the punishment. One of my best friends in school was forced to miss prom and graduation because he turned in his final english paper 10 minutes late so... Eh.

This goes with the topic.

All I can say is, bless him. Hahahaha
http://youtu.be/fWqP3Ip0Tq0

* And yes, you can find a ton of videos of flash mobs and such on school grounds. Say yes (to prom) videos like this kid mentions, and others. Most look like they are recorded with cell phones. You don't hear about them getting in trouble (some may have without news coverage, idk) so that is an excellent point, but at the same time it does not look like they are using school equipment to do it.
