Do you raid ppl's candy dishes at work?

Like Tree15Likes

I thought the candy was for both.

But mostly for co-workers and themselves. I don't know how many randoms walk through your office, but here, there aren't as many. But we currently have a counter with two candy jars of packaged chocolates (kit-kats, twix, etc.), a bowl of mixed nuts, a bowl of skittles, and probably 4-6 bags of different popcorn options. And that isn't including the three packaged chocolate dishes and one peppermint bowl about 20 feet over in the reception area.

Thankfully we requested fruit during our last staff meeting and now there is fruit in the kitchen. I loved it when we were buying tangelos. Mmmmm.... tangelos.

If it's in "my space" then keep your paws out of my candy dish.

Because it's in their work space. Just because you see it doesn't mean you can eat it, you candy monster....I'm laughing out loud right now.

If I didn't want to share my candies, I would keep them in a small container in a place that is clearly personal.

If I have them on the counter where everyone stands, I should assume that people may take a few.

If I create a candy dish, I pay for my candies. If co-workers eat me out of the candy, then no more candy. If I can afford it, I keep them there and keep replenishing. If I feel like everyone is taking advantage of my candies, I would default to the first comment, and keep them specifically to myself. Either in my desk, or in a place on my desk that makes it clear that they are mine. Not everyones.

For some reason, location means something to me.

Like if you have to go behind their desk to get to the candy, you probably shouldn't be taking any.

Or around their chairs.

I'm sure your OK. Just the fact that you care tells me you are careful.
I'm still a student (last year of university) but I sure hope that there is candy/fruit wherever I will be working

If I watch this thread, it looks like most of the offices "there" (oversea for me) have candy dishes or so...
I have worked as a student with a lot of different work places, and I have never seen candy dishes.
I hope it isn't unusual here in Belgium.
(I would prefer fruit though, since I'm trying to live a healthy lifestyle... but I would also be happy with cookies since, even if you TRY to live healthy, everyone loves cookies, right?)

as I re read this thread, I'm waiting for my coworker to get up and go to the bathroom so I can raid her candy. Not that she'll care, but I already had some today and I don't want to look like a pig. So I'll be stealthy.

Cookies create a feeding frenzy in my office. On the candy bar we also had a plate of cookies that were gone in milliseconds on Friday. I saw the plate wrapped up in the pretty cellophane paper one moment, and a couple of minutes later when I walked by it was empty but for a half cookie and a couple of crumbs.

If you snooze, you loose on the cookies.

Fruit is delicious! We also have cheese, ritz crackers, popcorn, tortilla chips, and free sodas/juices/water. I've managed to maintain my weight largely by just coming to work. Sometimes I make nachos. Mmmm......

I've also worked places where there was never a candy dish or anything. We DID get the occasional cookie tray from vendors.

My coworker made cake batter Rice Krispy treats. Yum!! She also made peanut butter cupcakes and s'mores the past two weeks. And she's only been here a month! She's trying to show us up...

Ugh, I worked at a place where several amatuer bakers worked. So almost everyday we had cake, pastry, brownies, bread, pie and everything else. And not only were we allowed to eat, we were nagged and pressured into doing so. And we had monthly pot luck breakfasts. Too much! Stop!

We have monthly birthday lunches (thankfully we go out so it isn't SO much food), then two days later we have birthday cake. I'm glad they figured out how to space the cake out from birthday luncheon.

The last two places I've worked, candy has been a part of the regular office supply order.

Hmm. Is this a US thing? There is a section of candy at office Max and such.
I have a candy dish, it's on the edge of my desk and it's for anybody and everybody. Erm, it used to be. It was fine until the plant guys got their mitts into it. I'd fill it up in the morning and it would be empty by noon.
Not often because I'm not into candy but we have one on another floor. I have taken from it once. There is an option to donate money to it.
I used to have one on my desk where I worked previously. Mostly it was there for anybody and several people would contribute here and there. I can't remember how exactly it started that i had a bowl, it just happened. If I had something i specifically liked though, it just didn't go in the bowl. I kept a small private stash. I always put the bowl away at night because a lot disappeared. Don't know by who. Occasionally I would bring cookies in but others would bring stuff in too and my desk was sort of the congregation spot for all sorts of food because i had a long row of cabinets in front of me which made good table space. Lol!

A community dish? Sure. A private candy dish on someones desk ? No, I wouldn't take any without asking, unless it belonged to a close friend.
