Default SO - Do you go to the dentist and optometrist on a regular basis?

I know ppl who in their 30s and 40s who haven't been since childhood. How often do you go? Or are you one of those ppl who feels it's unnecessary for you, for some reason? Or do you not go due to lack of insurance?

I haven't gone to the dentist because I've been lazy. It's been a couple years I think. Same with the eye doc but that's been more like 5-7 years.

I go to the dentist three times per year and the optometrist about every two years.

I've never had my eyes checked.

I went through a phase in my 20's where we moved around for a few years and I didn't go to the dentist for 5 years. I just forgot I guess because I've always had insurance. I go more regularly now since I take the kids.

In any case, I'm 39 years old and don't have any cavities and don't wear glasses so my negligence hasn't hurt me.

I go to the dentist twice a year. After I got my braces off a few years ago, I went three times a year until my gums were back in shape from all that time without flossing. I'm very diligent about the dentist. I didn't go for 5 years in my early 20s and ended up needing all kinds of work.

I rarely go to the optometrist. My vision is 20/20 since I had lasik 12 years ago. I think I've been 3 times in all those years, although I'm due now.

Your orthodontist didn't tell you to floss w/ threaders while you had braces? Or you couldn't or didn't want to?

Ugh I hated flossing with braces, it was such a mission! And stuff got stuck in your gums even more with braces.

I haven't been to the optometrist since I was a child. I've had physicians give me the eye chart during checkups, though.

Oh yeah, he gave me threaders but it was a pain with all the hardware I had (more than just regular braces) so I didn't do it a lot. Plus, it's just not the same as flossing without braces. My teeth and gums weren't a horrible mess when I got my braces off, just not as good as they would have been otherwise.

I go to the dentist every 3 months...since having some gum issues. They are getting better so hoping we can reverse everything. I hated flossing and have learned the hard way...

There was a period I didn't go to the dentist...ours died and then I had 2 babies...took forever to find one we sort of trust. A lot of dentist just seem to be money hungry telling you things to do that you don't really need. Maybe it's just Texas...but you go for a second opinion and they tell you something totally different. Don't mean to bash Dentists it's just been our luck.

I go to the dentist regularly but haven't had my eyes tested since they did it at primary school when I was 11 (I'm 50).

I've never had dental or eye insurance.
But I go to the dentist once a year for cleaning and xrays and usually at least once more because I usually have something that needs done (bad teeth since I was a kid).
I didn't need glasses until I was in my 40's so I never went to the eye doc til then. Now I go every 2 or 3 years for an exam and to get new glasses. Plus glaucoma runs in the family so I need to check for that regularly. Eye strain is a migraine trigger for me so I like to get updated glasses as often as I can afford.

I get my eyes checked every 6 months and have for the last 16 years. I take a medication that can cause eye toxicity. Other than that, I doubt I would go.

Dentist- I went every 6 months until my kids were born and little. I've had a ton of dental problems over the years due to my health problems... trying to go every 6 months.. and hoping for the first time in many years, I don't have any cavities.

this x a million. I have one now that I just love. He is the total opposite. I still have a hard time getting there every 6 months. It's probably been at least a couple of years, and I really should get my butt there for a checkup. I go to the eye doc every 2 years.

Haven't been to the optometrist in years. I do go to the ophthalmologist about twice a year, though. I'm very near sighted and I get more thorough care with him than with any optometrist I've ever been to.

I go to the dentist once a year on average. I know it should be at least twice a year but it's not one of my most favorite places and outside of a few cavities over the years, I've never had any serious issues with my teeth.

I go to the dentist for cleanings every 6 months, and then if I have cavities. Ive had lots of dental work and just recently (in the last 3 years) finished up and am back to just cleanings and occasional fillings.
I only see the eye doctor every 2 years because my eyes aren't bad and I've had the same mild prescription since I was 17 (5 years). I get new frames and lenses every other year which is the only reason I go.

I'm obsessive about annual check-ups. I go to the dentist every 6 months and to the opthamologist/optometrist every 12-18 months.

^ This.

I was diligently going every 6 months, then moved (I'm also in Texas) to a clinic in the same group I was previously going to - and they told me I needed about $4000 worth of work (I'd been 6 months previously and all was well) - I did get a lot of the work they recommended done - but I won't return to them - which is why it's been nearly a year since I've gone. It's on my list in the next few weeks, to find a new dentist.

I go to the optometrist once a year and the opthamologist at least once a year.

I go to the dentist once a year for a cleaning and general checkup. I haven't had cavities in several years. I haven't had my eyes checked in years and years but I am thinking that I should start going next year (after I hit 40) to establish a baseline. I have decent insurance but I haven't gone because I don't wear glasses and never have had any problems with my eyes. O

Hey, I could have written that, word for word.

I should get my eyes checked every couple of years. I can tell my vision isn't anywhere what it used to be (which was 20-15 when I was younger).
