Camping..anyone? (Updated with pix)

Like in a tent? My bf really wants to go and it's one thing I've never been interested in.

How bad is it?

jeepcurlygurl 06-13-2013 02:43 PM

I've been going camping a long long time. I don't find it bad at all, unless the weather is really super terrible. Or you can't get a fire started. I've camped in cabins, trailers, pop-ups, tents, open air. In rain, snow, sleet, sun, heat, cold, and sometimes in perfect weather. I've slept on beds, cots, air mattresses, foam mattresses, and on the ground. I've been extremely comfortable and not. I've camped in crowded camp grounds and in secluded primitive areas. I love camp food so that's always a bonus.
But if you have no interest in it, it might not want to start right out with tent camping.

Is he talking car-camping or backpacking? I would start with car camping. That way, you can bring all the stuff to keep you comfy. Having a comfy bed is key to enjoying camping! When I'm car camping, I'll bring a thick inflatable mattress, pillows and a comforter/blanket. You can also bring as much food as you want and cook some great meals. Food seems to taste better when you're camping! Don't forget s'mores! And camp chairs. And wet wipes to keep you clean if you're not going to shower.

I've camped at the beach a lot in Mexico. For weeks at a time. I love it and would do it again.

I do wonder about camping somewhere where the ground isn't sand though. But I'd still be down.

As long as it wasn't raining all crazy and miserable or anything.

Love camping, though I must admit I like the comfort of a toilet and hot water (preferably a shower). It's miserable if it rains for days on end and you can't get things dry and I hate it if it's too hot, but that's just me. We haven't been for years as the boys refuse to go but they're a bit too young to leave at home. Can't wait to get back into it.

I couldn't do tent camping. Way too rough for me. I need indoor plumbing.

There are campgrounds that do have indoor plumbing, but you'll have to check around.

I did tent camping when I was younger and enjoyed it, but I never had more than a sleeping bag on the rocky ground and decided I didn't like it. We have a 5th wheel camper now. :) Not quite the same thing ....

I don't even consider beach camping to be camping but I would looove to do that. The wooded areas are just totally different and buggy and ew. So people actually put air mattresses in their tent? I guess that could work.

Ugh.

Hate camping.

Yes we would definitely be going to a place with public restrooms. I dont care much about no shower for a day or two but I'm not ready to poop in the ground yet.

I did a few times in a camper (no plumbing or electric) as a child. It was Ok then but not something I would want to repeat now.

I would like to rent a nice (luxury) log cabin in an area w/ a lot of fun outdoor activities for long weekend, tho.

I would NOT want to camp in a tent. Totally not my idea of fun at all.

LOL that's not camping, I've done that a few times, including a couple of weekends ago. Pretty fun.

That's about as close as I'm gonna get!

Hmm. Strange. I had a blast every time. My family still goes to the camping at beach for a week during spring break every single year. They have a palapa that is a permanent structure at the spot they go to, there is a toilet, but we all post our tents and create our family tent village and kick it fun style. You go to the palapa for the shade and food, we have a kitchen area, a bodega area, a shower area, an enclosed toilet (of course it doesn't flush, but we got plenty of water and a bucket) and all the hammocks you can want. Perfection!

And I've camped with an ex up and down the coast. It was always fun. There is always SOMEWHERE to shower off with some fresh water, and its just gorgeous.

I'm really surprised that so few like to camp. I always thought that was a stereotype of women that was untrue.

mrspoppers 06-14-2013 10:34 AM

My camping experiences as a child were exactly like this. I don't hate tent camping. I'd go if I was invited by fun people who already have all the gear but I'm more of the trailer type.

I would love to sleep on a beach, even w/out a tent! But georgia woods are a different story! I'm girly when it comes to insects and I don't find woods to be pretty or fascinating at all. I love sand and ocean water.

Josephine 06-14-2013 12:03 PM

This is the place where he wants to go and there are grills and bathrooms somewhere -

They have riverfront sites which I would like. Cant find any pics though.

I love camping! I've done it in where there was no running water and no toilets, which meant pooping in the woods. One night there was a torrential downpour outside my tent and I had to go in the worst way. I didn't want to bring drenched clothes back into the tent, so I ran out naked in the rain. Almost got caught by some fellow [male] campers. Hysterically funny at the time.

Speckla 06-14-2013 12:50 PM

Hey, Josphine, you're in Georgia, aren't you?

Camping can be fun. I don't like to poop in the woods but I am ok if I have tp, wet wipes, and privacy. :) It would be ok for a few days but not for more than that.

Make sure you take extra supplies incase your period starts earlier or you are feeling frisky...lol. Have fun and be prepared. You might actuallly have fun. Bring extra tp, meds (Tylenol and such) and just relax. I can go with you. :thumbright:

Yea, I think if I have some water and tp ill be okay. A few days, preferably 2 max would be good.

Yep, i'm in ga, have you been to camping anywhere here? My friends wouldnt even get into the lake so I doubt they would want to camp. They're worse than me lol. A few people told me I'd probably like it, just seems a bit scary.
