How do you shape your eggshell nails?

I have weak, brittle eggshell nails and unless I use Sally Hansen's Thicken Up, I can't grow them at all. It helps a TON! Though my nails still bend. I keep them at a medium length and file them straight across. I like them this way, but I notice the corners break easily. That messes up the shape, but also the polish starts to chip after that. How do you shape your eggshell nails?

These are them right now:

And this is how I usually keep them:

Your nails look very nice in that second pic. I'd round out the corners some, to a more squoval shape.

I have been putting acrylic on mine for 22 yrs. I usually do it myself and it's second nature now. I keep the length short (but I don't have to; I could wear them at any length and in any shape) and my polish always looks good.

Back in high school I made this discovery of putting a few drops of KrazyGlue (not SuperGlue) in a bottle of clear nail polish and it made my nails rock hard and they grew to ridiculous lengths in no time. But then I ran out of the clear polish I'd been using, wrongly assumed any clear polish would work (it doesn't) and never experienced the same level of success w/ it. And eventually I discovered acrylic and never looked back.

Yeah, my nails were eggshells, too so I don't care that I have weakened them w/ the acrylic...they were already weak.

I'm not the best person to answer this. I have rather thick nails that grow like weeds, but nail polish does weaken them. When I get any chipping or thinning around the tips, it is always to do excessive use of polish.

I agree with TNB, when it comes to rounding edges. That helps avoid snags. Always make sure you file in one direction only! if you go to the left, and then the right, it weakens the nail.

Also, OPI makes a pretty good natural nail strengthener and their natural base coat is fantastic! I have had little to no peeling (or discoloration) since using it.

Oh, Cutex makes an advance revival nail polish remover that is more gentle on the nail. It strengthens and has botanical oils. A few drug stores have knock off versions that are just as good.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I would also round the corners a bit. I can't wear my nails square or they break and chip. Shellac makes my nails grow crazy long.
When are women going to face the fact that they donít know their own bodies as well as men who have heard things?

And this was before anyone in high school was getting acrylics or anything so I was the only one who had these superbad nails. OMG I wish I could remember the stuff I was using. I got the tip from a friend of mine modeling. She hadn't tried it...just told me she heard that glue in nail polish helps and I just stumbled upon this. But oh so many disasters afterward, experimenting w/ wrong polishes.
