Melissa Harris-Perry and Joy Ann Reid on MSNBC are making me tear up talking about their children.

I cannot really put into words how disturbed and petrified and angry I am right now. I cannot imagine what Trayvon's parents must be going through.

Sounds like in Florida if you start a fight and feel like you're losing, you can then kill the other person/people you've initiated a fight with.

Sounds about right for Florida.

So....do hide your kids.

Don't look "suspicious", whatever that means:

Don't be walking in the rain talking on your cell phone like a ne'er-do-well.
Don't wear hoodies or other "thug wear".

Do start a fight, take a beating, pull out your weapon, and end it.

I just had to have a talk with my brother. He doesn't even dress like Trayvon but I sadly had to tell him to some people that doesn't even matter and I told him some of my experiences a UGA. I told him to be careful and aware of his surroundings. Why do I have to have this talk with my 13 YEAR OLD BROTHER???? I'm sure since dad and him were both up they are about to have a heart to heart. 2013 and I'm STILL having to tell my brother "keep one eye open" essentially.

I wish people would ask what the verdict would have been if a 17 year old white kid died that night. But it's impossible for people to even go there, because the fact is this wouldn't have ever happened. Zimmerman wouldn't have followed him. Period.

If the shooter were black and the dead kid were black, this verdict wouldn't have happened either (not for the reason O'Mara said, either). The trial wouldn't have happened. Because the shooter would have been arrested, been jailedl, had a public defender or mediocre defense attorney, and likely would have been counseled to plead guilty to manslaughter to begin with.

The fact is an armed adult pursued a kid walking home, instigated a fight with the kid, and killed the kid, and that armed adult basically got away with it.

I cannot begin to describe how I feel mostly because I knew he was going to get off. But like someone else said the life of a black man is worth nothing. If Zimmerman were black, he would be going to jail right now.

The NAACP is trying to pursue a civil rights charge against Zimmerman now.

I can't support the notion of eye for an eye, so please understand that I'm not wishing Zimmerman physical harm, but I hope that he is threatened enough to be forced to live the rest of his life in fear of vigilante justice. To be technically free but still be a prisoner...

Was he found not guilty of manslaughter too? I read that in order to be convicted of second degree murder, the prosecution had to prove Zimmerman had malicious intent.

He was, and that's what baffles me the most. I understand the 2nd degree charge, that would be very, very hard to prove. People are convicted of manslaughter for accidentally hitting someone with a car and other unintentional murders all the time, how is this different?

I wonder if enough ppl went to the Supreme Court about this Stand Your Ground law...would it change anything? A black woman just go 20 yrs in prison....for firing a warning shot. Can we fight against that too? She was "standing her ground" what y'all dont understand is Florida has been like that for a looooong time against Black ppl. This is my first time seeing a case like this make national headlines. But these cops down here (and wanna be cops) are trigger happy...they're not even using tasers...they are killing us. Straight up. It makes me angry!!

So when ur down here....just don't be Black. Smh. There's no such thing as standing ur ground down here for us. And this is from the mouth of a native.

I didn't follow the trial closely, but I do find it unbelievable that he wasn't convicted of manslaughter. He did follow Trayvon, and although Trayvon may be taller, Zimmerman is huge in comparison.

A little OT, but I think if Zimmerman's father wasn't a powerful and white judge, the police wouldn't have been so nice to him. The irony is that if Zimmerman were in certain neighborhoods, what happened to Trayvon could very well have happened to him. I find this case and the verdict disturbing. Our justice system is really about chance - not justice.

what was the kid doing in a gaited neighborhood?? I didn't watch the whole thing and didn't keep up to date on it all. So, I'm kind of trying to catch up on the facts. I hear that he was in a gaited neighborhood and George was doing a neighborhood watch and it went way out of control on both ends. I saw George's face all beat up.

"What was Trayvon doing in a 'gaited' neighborhood?" The same thing the misspelling of your word is doing inside of your sentence. Minding its own damn business.

His father's girlfriend lived there. He was returning from 7-11 with Skittles and iced tea for his brother when Zimmerman saw him and decided he must be a criminal, so he called 911 to report Martin to the police, then proceeded to follow him. Eventually, Trayvon turned around to ask Zimmerman why he was following him, and a fistfight ensued during which Zimmerman pulled a gun and shot him.

As the police, medical examiner and Zimmerman's own attorney acknowledged, George's injuries were minor.

Florida "justice" at its worst. 24 hours later, I still can't find the words to express my disappointment and anger. The only silver lining is the dignity and grace with which Tracy Martin has conducted himself throughout this ordeal .
