Default Zimmerman Trial Gone to Jury

Think they'll be out long? Anyone know if they are taking precautions in the area? Things could get pretty scary

I am glad you posted that. We had the tv on it at work this morning but have been so slammed. I had no idea what was going on i turned around and they were on to other news.

They probably will take a while. Hopefully not too long.

I'm not really sure. The local police chief (I think that's who that was) just gave a press conference on the local news.

I'm not in Stanford, but I'm in FL.

I really feel like all the trumped up attention over riots seems racist. Why will there be potential riots? Because the victim was a black person and black people have a history of riots? Saying this is no better than the way Trayvon was treated by Zimmerman...it's racial profiling. Fox "News" has been banging the riot drum for days now. So insulting.

I don't think that at all. Look at the riots in Vancouver over a hockey game, or the ones in Toronto over the G8 Summit. Some people will use any excuse to break the law.

I think it is because this is a very heated and emotional trial that involves issue of race/racism. Even when this happened a year ago and it was waiting to go to trial I said if this man is not found guilty I may not go to work for the simple fact that in some ways it is a LOOSE reminder of the Rodney King Trial and I could see a lot of people being upset nationally on a not guilty verdict. Not because we're black but because it is an emotionally vested issue that still affects blacks. My opinion though.

You are welcome. I do know what you are saying with more and more riots over sporting events. Look at the riots when Paterno was fired. That made no sense, and this is a much more emotional and meaningful verdict than a score or a coach.

I agree with gagirl, too. I couldn't help but think of the Rodney King verdict (I was in NY on school field trip and people were bracing themselves for the worst, and luckily it did not get bad there). I have heard that many threats were made, and I am sure many were made in anger or heat of the moment, but you have to take it seriously and not dismiss for any reason. I hope nothing happens. I want to see justice, and I don't want to see anyone else get hurt if it is not given.

Thank you bunches. I saw they went back to deliberation this morning on GMA. It's been a pretty good day so far, but people are waking up and we have more bad afternoon storms on the way. I may or may not be able to keep tab.

I kept reading up on the importance of 911 calls in the case. Thats of double interest to me. I was hoping that would have some influence and paint a picture. Not just the debate over who is screaming, but everything from the large number of 911 (non emergency line) calls Zimmerman has placed over so many years. I think I read it was 80 some. He would call because a car drove by too slow, in his opinion, etc. That is obsessive behavior. A watch group might think that's "outstanding" work and diligence, but that to me is someone with a great deal of anxiety who easily over reacts and has too much time on their hands. *I read they were originally not going to allow some of those facts/tapes to be played, but I am glad they did. It is important in relation to his community watch participation and attitude.

The main thing I was interested in is how much weight the fact that he ignored the dispatchers instructions to stay in his car, and not approach, would have. That plus it being the rules of his neighborhood watch group.

^ Yes ma'am. It may be.

I am finally home and watching the news now. There is no telling how long this could take.

When will they deliver the verdict? Today? Or Monday?

I was listening to CNN on the way home and one of the "experts" said the jury would have worked numerally through the charges. The fact they were asking about man slaughter probably means that have moved past second degree and self defense.

Again CNN "expert" said good chance tonight or tomorrow. Last night they went home (or hotel I assume) at 6, tonight they ordered dinner at 7. Looks like they want to power through.

I am willing to bet money the 911 office would have happy to provide all 80 some calls made by Zimmerman before this incident, as opposed to 5. Not to side track, and just to illustrate, I deal with a person who has appointed himself the president and only member of a watch group for a public area with little to no activity. He is obsessed with devil worshipers defiling the property. *Based on some past events, and the area, it might have applied in an instance years ago, but w/o telling all, it's obsessive and stereotypical assumptions* He is always nice, and pleasant, while naming potential satanic defilers. He stays up all night on full moons and watches the area from his porch. He will call because a car drove by, or someone was walking by. He places around 20-30 non emergency calls a year, the same as Zimmerman. With the way people call for no real reason now, I am not sure if the jury would understand how truly abnormal and messed up it is, without hearing more. 5 calls about black males, every time, does at least give them a small impression.

And sorry, don't mean to harp on that. I am very glad that they at least allowed 5.
