TV Experts (Buying a new TV)

I want to buy a new TV, but I don't think what I want is available. My old TV was a basic 19" square box. It did all that I wanted it to do: it worked well, and had CC.

It now seems that all TVs are HD, and I don't really care if the TV is HD compatible. I just want to be able to watch DVDs and turn on CC by pushing a button on the remote control.

While doing research, I discovered that HD TVs can't show CC do the nature of HD (or something such as that), and I would have to get a converter box and cables.

My question, does anyone know of any non-HD TVs? I can't seem to find any, or perhaps I am using the wrong key words when searching.

Thanks

Assuming you're talking about closed captioning, both of my TVs are high def and you can turn it on.

That is interesting because I have used two HD TVs that won't do CC for some reason.

My tv is hd but I dont have a hd cable box just never upgraded when i bought the new tv. I can also use cc.

Looks like the problem with cc is a digital tv problem not a hd problem. Something isnt set up properly.

Oh yes, digital, not HD. I keep getting confused for some reason. I thought digital and HD are the same.

I guess I need to make sure the TV is not digital.

Thanks!

Isnt all cable digital? I have digital cable and cc. If it doesnt work there's something in the settings or on the cable's provider side because you should have it.
My main problem is that if a DVD has CC, the CC won't show. If subtitles are included on the DVD, they will show.

For TV shows, CC can be turned on through the cable box, but CC for a DVD still do not show.

With my plain box TV and plain cable box, I could just push the CC button on the remote control and the CC would show with either a DVD or a TV show.

From my research, it seems there is some work around, but before I go to the store and buy stuff, I wanted to know if anyone has done this work around, and was it easy to install.

Zinna, I just googled (I do not use closed captioning) and saw a few things saying the cables you use to connect the devices can make a difference. S cables (the red, white and yellow) should work but component (with red, blue and green) will not. I also saw that you have to trouble shoot with HDMI cables used with high def/most flat screens.

I wondering if they had changed something with the dvd players. Most all should have closed captioning, but you never know anymore. You now have to buy a 3D TV and 3D Bluray/DVD player to watch 3D movies as opposed to a non 3D tv/dvd player that would play the stereoscopic (red and green) 3D. People have to make $$ at every turn.

Thanks Fifi!

I like CC for some shows/movies, and without, I would have missed some awesome dialogue.

I fee a bit smarter...honestly, this type of tech stuff makes my eyes glaze.
