I remember when Vanessa Williams won. She was so gorgeous. Still is.
It's hard to believe. I was watching something about him and Robin at my mom's a couple weeks ago. She's had cancer, and was broadcasting from home. Anywho, I think they said the pair met each other in the early 80's while working at a small station and then got a syndicated show of their own in the mid to late 80's. I had never heard of him until his show hit TV.

It's hard to forget when Vanessa won, and even harder to forget the constant news coverage of the "scandal". (Otherwise known as boobies)

That should read 22 really ignorant tweets (though some were a little vague). I'm not even looking at the 2000 + comments on them.

It may be in second place, but there are still about 140 million Muslims in India.

That's cos India has a load of people - 1,220,800,358

Most of the population estimated between 80-86.5% are Hindu.

Yeah, I shouldn't have said it like that. I realize there are plenty of Indians who are Muslim...didn't mean to discount them. But the vast majority are not. And I would never say India is a Muslim country...and the reason, I believe, why Pakistan was founded.

Yep Pakistan and what is now Bangladesh.

There is a reason why people in India convert to Islam, and it isn't a nice reason.

BTW you know you can edit posts if you fingers run away from you before someone quotes you in a reply?

That article on buzzfeed led me to another, which is also depressing:

Is Miss America Too Dark-Skinned To Ever Be Crowned Miss India

On the plus side, she still won. The biggots are losing.

I hope.

Not that depressing to me, it's typical. Indians are way worse than Americans when it comes to these issues.

It's depressing that it's typical.

Yes, let's definitely not model ourselves on how Indians treat these issues.

Exactly. Even though there are a lot of ignorant people here and we should always strive towards better, I'm grateful for living here than many other parts of the world.

I have a couple of Indian coworkers i'm friendly with. So I told one of them today that tthe new Miss America is of Indian heritage. The first thing she said was, "really? she must be very beautiful? And from up North? Fair complected?" LOL

So I said no, not that fair complected. And she googles her on her phone. And when she sees her, she's like, "very average. And not just bc of her skin color. I'm very surprised she was selected. In India, she wouldn't get a second look. And again, not just bc of her skin color."

LOL Wow.

(I think she's beautiful but...)

LOL, I don't think she's superattractive either, regardless of skin color. She is pretty but not wow like many typical beauty pageant contestants are.
