Default Need Zumba Shoe Recommendations....

I just started Zumba. Took my 1st class last night. All I have are my running shoes and I felt they were too heavy and I had trouble spinning around on the floor. My toes started hurting towards the middle of the class. I've done some googling, but I'm still at a loss as to what would be the best shoe to wear. Any Zumba curlies here who can help? Also, it would be nice if I could pick them up at a store instead of ordering online, since I need them right now. My next class is tomorrow night. TIA!

Congratulations on starting Zumba, I have danced for most of my years in school and you can either go with a suede bottom shoe (they use these for partner dancing and they are heals not ideal IMO) or you can go the jazz shoes. They are meant to be worn while dancing and spinning but they aren't cheap.

My personal favorite way to dance is bear foot which may not be appropriate for a gym though.

Congrats on trying Zumba! It's so much fun. I actually teach Zumba and really need some new shoes myself.

Running shoes aren't really good because they don't have enough support for going side to side, they almost push you forward. Try a comfortable pair of cross trainers, which you can wear for other types of exercise as well.

I know people who do it barefoot, but I personally find it uncomfortable and hard to turn. I also see a lot of people wearing those black hip hop shoes, and people say they're great for Zumba, but I've never tried them myself. You could probably get them at a dance store. I think when I finally break down and get new shoes I'm going to try those.

They also sell sneakers on the Zumba website, but that doesn't really help you for tomorrow.

If I got those I'd also have to get the hat your little guy is wearing.

A friend of mine who is taking Zumba (pretty new also) recommended Sketchers Flex. I can stop at DSW tonight and see if they have a pair there. Anyone know of these shoes and if they would be good?

If you're doing dance moves, you'd probably like slip-on jazz booties. You can do everything in them:

$30-$50 in any dance supply store. Or online:

Discount Dancewear -> unitards, jazz shoes, capezio shoes, ballet slippers, dance clothes, dance apparel, dance wear, dancewear, ballet shoes, dance shoes, capezio, dance supplies, tap shoes, discount dance wear

Thanks RCW. If the shoes I bought don't work out, I'll try those. I kept the receipt just in case. Didn't do the 2nd class this week. Too much going on.

I don't know how to get the picture to show, but these are the shoes I was talking about. They're ugly, but people swear by them.

What kind of shoes did you get?

The shoes I got are Nike, but I don't remember what else. The sole isn't as thick as my running shoe and the toe is pretty flexible. The woman at DSW recommended either them or a cross fit shoe. I tried both on and preferred the ones I bought. I'll be trying them out on Tuesday.
