Decorating divas...

What color are the baseboards and doors and door jambs in your home? What do you like, in terms of wood trim?

Nowadays, it seems the trend is white...everything. Does anyone like brown stained (in a newer house)?

Mine are white, but I like natural wood a lot.
No MAS.

I am the new Black.

If you were in a position where you had to get new wood trim and doors, would you choose white or stained wood (such as above)?

Would the fact you had stained wood kitchen cabinets(similar to pics 3 and 4) influence your decision? Would you be OK mixing woods?

(If I went w/ white wood trim, I would have three different woods: light and honey bamboo floors, honey cabinets and white trim.)

I have white doors and trim, but after seeing a few pics on Pinterest I've been thinking of doing them black.

I grew up in an old Victorian home, and would go with a dark wood if starting over.

Remember the stair well I wanted to do stripes in? I didn't do the stripes, but did all the trim in black and love how it turned out. I'll try and remember to take a pic tonight.
I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.

I had to take a double look at the second pic posted, looks A LOT like the house I grew up in!

I don't like the pine ones, looks very 80's to me.

A friend of mine has a gorgeous old brick Victorian house (LOVE!!!) and he has restored it w/ honey-colored wood and it looks great.

Black, you say? yes, post pics! I gotta see that

I need to spend some time on Pinterest!

Sorry, I didn't write that well, the doors are black.

My upstairs hall is the shade of the last picture.

Here are black doors and trim. Wouldn't work in my house (I don't think it's open enough), but I think it looks so sharp!

I'm not a decorating diva but I really urge you not to paint over the wood. The wood is beautiful and looks like it's in very good condition. You can find paint colors that are complementary with it. Go on Houzz.com and Pinterest for ideas. If you feel a strong urge to paint it - my advice is to try to postpone that for a while - the point is, once you paint over it if you wanted to return to the wood the process of stripping is formidable and the chemicals are extremely toxic. I think with the green movement and all there may even be a value in terms of resale to keeping the natural look. Another thought is you could use a darker stain on it. In a nutshell, don't rush into painting!

I love it, actually. But do I dare?!

I also want to replace my front (exterior) door. I wonder if a black door would be a good look? My house is the same color as these (but currently has a white door)...

I think a black door would be really sharp!!!!!!

I'm in the same boat...to do I dare

I have 5 doors in my upstairs hall, I think it would look sharp, but it might also be really dark. The bannister is white though with a really dark grey/black rail.

Loving the black doors! Never would've thought to do that.

As to the OP, I used to love natural wood but I think it really depends on the house. It can look dated, fast.

I like the black door, but maybe a red door? I have white base boards in my apt and I hate them. Shows all the dirt and hard to clean.
From Michael Berg:

Every person has a unique connection to the Creator that can never be extinguished, and every person has a great soul that can manifest important things in our world. To make a person feel less than they are because of something inside themselves, be it faith, race, or sexual orientation, is the greatest sin of all."
I would hit white baseboards with the vacuum cleaner and scuff them. Love the black. I suck at decorating so I dont. I really want a grown up house one day.
