Attn: longtime members (& anyone)-where are these folks?

Like, I remember back when I first became a member (1999) there were people like, Clinton, EvilFairchild, SunshineAggie,etc... What happened to those people nad the rest of the old crew? Also, why doesn't Michelle ever post? It makes me wonder..if something happened to me & ya'll never heard from me again, would anyone even notice??? THat is kind of scary. Maybe I should tell someone that if if something hapens to me, to come on here and tell ya'll. What do ya'll think happend to old members?

Nej 02-20-2004 12:34 AM

I don't know about the rest of them but I'm pretty sure SunshineAggie is now our resident super-heroine Cliquey Booyah

M2LR 02-20-2004 12:56 AM

There are quite a few who just don't post as often anymore.

SunshineAggie is now Little Miss Cleeky Booyah.

Some of them left for different reasons.

The tone of the board started to change a year or two ago. I know there were some personal attacks on a couple and they just got fed up and left.

Another thing I have noticed is the members who are posting seem to be younger. Not that that is bad. Just that some of the older posters may just feel they have less in common with the topics.

A few who felt they were being too strictly monitored started the "creepy board" (or something like that) so they could hold their own uncensored debates. Some of them, although I didn't always agree with their opinions, were fun. Even if I disagreed I always respected their points-of-view. Some of them do occasionally still pop in. I wish they would more often.

I am in a situation where my place of employment is in bankruptcy and the workload for the last year has been so slow that I spend a lot of time here. If the company folds and I lose my job, I will probably only pop in for a few minutes a day as opposed to the time I spend here now. (P.S. Don't feel sorry for me. I have worked 35 years and would love the free time to keep up with my house finally. Just holding on after all these years for the unemployment check.)

I for one know that Clinton is alive and well.
He started on the board as a high schooler but is now a young man with a life outside of this board.
He is still on my instant message list and we speak occasionally.

Michelle posted yesterday....

I don't know if I'm "old," but I've been here for almost 3 years. I mainly lurk now for a couple of reasons. I've got my basic curly hair routine down now, so I don't check the hair board anymore. The physical format of the board bugs me even with my ad blocker. And IMO, the tone of the board has changed from when I first joined. There aren't many topics that spark my interest. And most of the people I clicked with over here are now on Creepy, so that's where I spend most of my time.

StephS 02-20-2004 08:55 AM

I'm still around, but in Nov of 2000, I changed my user name from StephanieB to Stephs.

Anthro Incarnate 02-20-2004 10:54 AM

A lot of people grow out of this board. There have been much longer gaps between the times I post for several reasons. One, the format SUCKS. And those Flashy ads? Don't work on some systems. Including the one I use at work. So browsing the board is a pain in the ass there. Then the color scheme is so unfriendly to eyes that have been staring at a computer screen all day, I usually can't be bothered to suffer through it when I finish work. I also think the content has gotten less exciting. There have always been stupid threads that annoyed me, and threads about topic I have no interest in, but at least there used to be enough to keep me occupied for vast amounts of procrastination time. Now it seems like even if I haven't been around for a couple of weeks, I can scan the threads list and see maybe two or three I would care to read and respond to.

As for the hair board, I rarely check it. I'm fine with my routine, my hair philosophy goes against the MAD (Militant Actions of the Day--eg plopping, no poo, holy grails) postings over there, and there are far too many repetitive threads to offer suggestions on questions people have.

bushyhead 02-20-2004 05:16 PM

Or some of them just read the posts, but don't respond very often. :)

I had no idea that was you!

CurlyGirl3 02-20-2004 06:24 PM

I haven't been around for awhile but I was aware of the new format. How come it was changed to begin with?

Omalorrie 02-20-2004 09:27 PM

What is "Creepy"? :?:

CurlyNight 02-20-2004 10:30 PM

I've been reading posts here since 2001, but signed up in 2003. I learned how to take care of my hair long ago so I don't even look at the hair board. As for this board, I'll check it out if fft is down or if I'm really bored. The topics are the same ole with no hilarity, and the tone also seems to be more of a very young crowd than it used to be. Finally the format is very annoying. I have ad blocker too, but still the colors kill me and it's too cramped. I liked the old board much better.

eviestevie 02-21-2004 01:21 AM

agreed with Anthro. the new board is really hard to read so i don't spend much time on it. but i do miss some of the old folks. just to add to the list of MIA: smurf, curlyintahoe...

Just do what Cammie did: wear a medical ID bracelet that says "Alert the curlies!" on it. That way, if you happen to give birth to a premature baby before your "16 states in 10 days with a 2 week old, your mom and a modeling contract" cross country bus trip, paramedics and assorted friends will know to come to NC.com and post all about it so the curlies won't have to forever wonder about what the hell ever happened to you. HTH!!!

Hey- I'm still here....what more could you want? :P

Clinton does post now and then....I miss Kaz,Bushyhead and Cajuncurls, and Jade21

Nubian 02-21-2004 12:07 PM

I dont go to the hair board anymore because I feel more comfortable talking hair on a site with more people with my hair type....quicker, more numerous responses. I dont participate on the non-hair board much anymore because...it just isn't as fun as it used to be.
