I resolved to keep my handbag/purse organized...

....but the fact that I needed all of these smaller bags to organize crap in my handbag is a little embarrasing. I got a new handbag, my first 100% new handbag in a really, really, really long time. And I want to keep it clean and neat.

I know I'm a packrat, I will post a photo if I can.

How do you keep your bag organized?

So glad you posted this. I so need to do it too! I have no excuse for having my handbag be a mess.

One idea is that at certain times throughout the day (like when I'm about to go to lunch or ready to go home) I will take a minute to determinedly straighten my handbag out. Also, I'm going to keep my keys in one place and my transit card in another - the same place every day, since I'm forever losing both of those in the flotsam and jetsam of my purse and having a heart attack because I think I've lost them.

I think that's how I'm going to start, and will be very interested to see other responses to this thread.

I'm glad you replied! I'm so embarrassed by all the crap I feel like I must carry around, I almost came back and New Mexico'd this thread.

Anyway, this is my answer to a junky purse (without getting rid of anything....yes, I know I will have to get rid of some of this mess):

I watched some YouTube videos that gave me the smaller-bags-within-your-handbag idea. The ziploc bags contain pens and change (but I think I can stick the pens in the makeup bag; need a coin purse for the change). Those purple things are a poly envelope and a pencil case (they hold "important" papers....receipts from recent purchases, metro/train schedule/map, checkbook). Green is my wallet (primarily every card known to man). Pink is extra car keys and some personal items. The clear and the small polka dot is personal items. The large gold one is makeup, lotion, and wipes (for both your body and face). Took the photo with my phone.

I made the decision to move two the small clear and small polka dot bags of personal items (dental floss, hair ties, small hairbrush, Tylenol, etc.) to my gym bag. Whew, that feels a bit better.

Lol I'm still clueless as to why most women must carry around so much stuff so no help. I keep extra stuff I might need at work or laptop bag(lotion, ibuprofen, pads, etc.). I organize my purse when I'm bored at work. It's basically just throwing away receipts and putting my cards and bills together in my wallet. I have that, loose change, phone, keys, and a lipgloss and lipstick in there.I resolved to keep my handbag/purse organized...-imageuploadedbycurltalk1388867443.680342.jpg

I'm assuming this is the only bag you carry around all day? Or is it that and the gym bag? I would put most of that stuff in a book bag that might include gym clothes or in your gym bag like you've already done. I have a book bag that has compartments where I keep my stuff. Small bags is a good idea too.
Right, it's the only bag I carry around. I thought I was doing really well because I totally stopped carrying my messenger bag and a handbag. Then I emptied out my bag a couple of days ago. All for that thought.

Yeah, my gym bag stays in my car so it's there when I need it. Some thing kind of clicked in my brain when I realized I had three bags of personal items!

My purse was like one big cavern with one tiny pocket until I bought an organizer by this vendor. Making organization a priority by DivideAndConquer on Etsy It matches the lining of my purse perfectly so you really cannot tell it is there. There are cheaper versions but I tried one and really find this one to be worth the extra money.

I change bags almost every day (I have about 10-12 in the main rotation plus others I carry on occasion) so in the process of switching my wallet, make up bag and other essentials from one bag to another every morning, a lot of junk gets tossed.

If I carried the same bag day in and day out, it would be disgusting.

The biggest problem for me is carrying food items (cans of soda w/ condensation, a piece of fruit whose skin get punctured, a packet of Splenda that tears and spills, gum that gets loose and eposits that powdery stuff everywhere). It think that mixes up w/ the ink on envelopes and receipts and the linings of my bags are never really clean.

I need to make this resolution, too. My bag is so heavy with things I don't need that my shoulder actually hurts after carrying purse for awhile. And the bottom of my purse is filthy. I don't even know where the crumbs come from because I don' really carry food around . . . it's just a big mystery bag. Like Mary Poppins' carpet bag.

I make sure I buy just the right size purse, nothing too big or too heavy and nothing too small. 12-14 wide x 10-12 high x 3-4 deep is about perfect for me.
I never just throw things in willy nilly.
My purse holds my phone, keys, checkbook, pocket calendar, eyeglasses case, sunglasses case, a wallet/change purse that holds money/ID/credit cards, and a makeup bag that holds all my misc stuff (pills, blush, mascara, lipstick, tampons, sewing kit, tweezers, tea, splenda, pen, floss pics).
I like to change purses every couple weeks and it only takes a few seconds to switch over.

I end up having a bunch of crap in my bag. Like receipts, mail. Jolly Ranchers. Loose change. Sometimes I slice up an ounce of cheese for a snack for the day and find it (always still bagged) a day or two later. And toiletries that should really be in my gym bag.

I'm like spiderlashes (though with less bags) and change them day to day depending on what I'm wearing usually, so stuff doesn't get a chance to build up. The only things I carry regularly are my purse, lipstick, tissues, phone (if I remember it) and some painkillers and plasters.

Did you see the special on GMA, or one of the nightly news shows where they stopped women on the street and asked if they could weigh their handbags? Most ranged from 13-20+ lbs. They then discussed how harmful this is for your body and how it throws everything about your posture out of line due to that much weight typically being carried on one shoulder or arm. Even when you walk w/o a purse, your body continues leaning to one side.

My mom is constantly seeking ways to lighten her load, and she only carries a wallet, pocket calendar, keys and her glasses. Anything else is feather light. Sometimes the bags alone are heavy. It kills her arthritis.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??
