I am listening to a rather hard hitting playlist that consists of my favorite late 1970's-90's bands. I'll post some lyrics and links, but be warned 2 of the songs are about rape (not even remotely from a pro stance) and 1 comes from an album about personal freedoms titled Steady Diet of Nothing.

Band: Fugazi
Album: 13 Songs
Released: 1989
Title: Suggestion (originally titled Rape)

http://youtu.be/emvJoY6ZuMQ

Lyrics:

Why can't i walk down a street free of suggestion? Is my body the only trait in the eyes of men? I've got some skin
You want to look in there?

Lays no reward in what you discover
You spent yourself watching me suffer
Suffer your words, suffer your eyes, suffer your hands. Suffer your interpretation of what it is to be a man

I've got some skin
You want to look in?
She does nothing to deserve it
He only wants to observe it

We sit back like they taught us
We keep quiet like they taught us
He just wants to prove she does nothing to remove it. We don't want anyone to mind us

So, we play the roles that they assigned us. She does nothing to conceal it
He touches her 'cause he wants to feel it. We blame her for being there

But, we are all guilty

Band: Nirvana
Album: Nevermind
Release: 1992
Song: Polly
Inspiration: Kurt wrote this in 87 after being deeply affected by a story about a 14 year old girl who was picked up while walking home from a concert, kidnapped, sexually assaulted. She managed to escape by keeping her wits and playing her attacker. Hence the line, "It amazes me, the will of instinct".

http://youtu.be/Qd3rpF9v-1o

ETA: Looking at the recent comments it is easy to tell some kiddo's have no idea what this one is about. "Lucky Girl". Yeah, no. Not even close. It's sung from a very messed up, what in the world would this person be thinking?, perspective. Kudos to the person who asked 'Why are you laughing?' when another stated the song was not funny after learning the meaning. No one said it was.

Band: Fugazi
Album: Steady Diet of Nothing
Release: 1991
Song: Reclamation

http://youtu.be/k-HdZ06Zsqw

Lyrics:

these are our demands: we want control of our bodies. decisions will now be ours. you can carry out your noble actions, we will carry our noble scars. reclamation. no one here is asking, no one here is asking, but there is a question of trust. you will do what looks good to you on paper, we will do what we must. carry my body!

So yeah. A little depressing, but good songs none the less.
