Based on what I have seen in interviews and during speeches, I do like her (not had a chance to see her acting chops, yet). She seems like a very nice woman who does not hold back when it comes to relevant personal stories, and her fashion sense is impeccable.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I'm glad Nyong'o spoke about this. I like what she shared.

I don't love the rest of the article, tho.

God didn't lighten her skin so she could wear brightly colored clothing and make up?? That's really beside the point IMO.

And that by wanting to be lighter and thinner, girls are trying to be invisible bc it's safer to be invisible? No. They are trying to fit into a racist and sexist beauty ideal so they will be seen as attractive instead of ugly bc of the myriad social benefits that go along w/ being physically attractive and myriad drawbacks to being unattractive.

I'm really dying to see it now. Had to pace out all of the depressing Black films of 2013 and now I am finally ready. LOL

I really want to see it now too. I haven't seen most of the films that were nominated and won awards this year (except for Frozen, I saw and loved that one!).

I loved American Hustle and i loved Gravity. Have heard nothing but good things about Philomena and Dallas buyers club. You couldn't drag me Ori Wokf if Wallstreet unless you offered me a golden parachute. Ditto for Osage and Blue Jasmine. Blech. Not for me. And of course I'll see 12 years.

We all think she is stunning but will casting directors cast her for other things?

Hopefully she does stage work as well.

Thanks for posting Chupie. I had read her speech on the topic but in another article. I'm glad these things are being shared. It took me a back a little bit to be honest. It took me aback that someone as exquisitely beautiful, as poised and confident as Lupita had ever struggled with the notion of being unbeautiful. Privilege can be so quiet.
