Apparently it makes me want to cry as well. After holding it in since this happened yesterday I totally lost it about 20 minutes ago trying to give him his medication. I feel ashamed and ridiculous for my behavior, I'm just so scared he won't get better and I've been trying to keep it together...I don't like crying and I let my frustration out in a totally inappropriate way. Scared myself, the dog and my husband.
He's got to stay in 4-6 weeks and I'm still trying to figure out how we'll factor this into moving and trying to house hunt when we can't leave him alone. One step at a time...I'll figure it out when we get to that point.

Hey! I do plenty of braining and whacking, and even the occasional garroting, so I feel that complaint is unfair. Have you ever had intruders in the castle? Have you? No, you have not (well, not human intruders, that is). So, frankly, your Majesty, I think I deserve higher quality gruel than the watery slop you've been doling out lately.
Geez. As if I don't work for the love of reindeer, anyway.

Thanks, rouquinne, and same to you. May the new job merit lots of champagne!
I've been enjoying Mark Watches doing Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's fun to read the impressions and analysis of one of my favorite shows from someone who has no idea about it other than the press it got thanks to M. Night's sh*tty movie. Just a great, entertaining read and a fun way to watch or re-watch the series.

But as I was reading the comments, someone mentioned that Mark Reads' Twilight entries led her to understand so much about social issues, so I took a look though I've never cared to read or see Twilight. And my goodness, his entries are hilarious! And Meyer's writing is awful. I'd call it tripe, but I love tripe and think it's awesome, so I won't.

Ninja, I've eaten far too much pane al cioccolato, so I'd say that counts.
Gekkolandia! Please don't have my beheaded for my thoughtlessness! And consider ninja Royal Attorney instead. Although, would you need an attorney in the first place?

Oh, no, no, no.....I'm happy as a guard and minion. I keep my dogs with me, and there's plenty of downtime for reading, since contrary to Her Majesty's paranoia, nobody really wants to breach the castle walls, anyway. Everyone thinks they'll have to listen to Bjork if they invade, so they stay away.

Grrrrrr!
It's not Caruso as in David Caruso; it's Crusoe, as in crucifixion. Get it right! Robinson Crusoe.

Hmmmm I started reading Robinson Caruso about 10 billion years ago (okay maybe 4) and never finished... maybe I should pick it back up again.

Thanks, TRBL.
I made horchata today. The trouble with making horchata is that I always fool myself into thinking a single batch is enough. But six cups or so of horchata is nothing. It disappears in no time. Horchata refreshes like nothing else. It tastes like a serene summer day. As soon as I make it I think of being under the shade on a sunny day, just sipping ice-cold horchata. And then I want to make more and more. Sigh.

Please speak to us further of this horchata... I assume not to be confused with siracha? hehe

Nothing to do with sriracha!
Horchata is a drink that is different things depending on where it's from. In Spain it is made from soaking chufas (tiger nuts). In places like El Salvador it's made with herbs, sesame seeds, cacao, and other ingredients with rice as the body. In countries like Mexico, it usually involves almonds and rice. There are tons of variations just there though. Some add milk, some make it with just rice.
It's a bit of a joke that most Mexicans make it with a packet from the store. A lot of restaurants that sell it make it from a mix. Meh.
I make mine dairy-free as it should be. Heh. It's creamy and milky since you're basically making almond and/or rice milk. It doesn't need milk, evaporated or otherwise, and I prefer to keep it light. You soak the ground rice and almonds overnight with lime zest and cinnamon stick (it's nice to not have to debate which of my cinnamon types to use here for a change --- I use Ceylon for authenticity --- Mexican cinnamon for a Mexican drink). Next day blend until as smooth and creamy as possible, adding more water, then strain through some cheesecloth. Make a simple syrup using white or brown sugar (most horchata is milky white and if you want that, use white sugar, but I can't resist using at least half piloncillo/panela for a more interesting, tropical flavor). I add a cinnamon stick to the syrup as well. Add a little more water and vanilla extract and serve on ice, with a dusting of cinnamon. Think happy, refreshing thoughts.
My horchata is not as sweet as the average Mexican horchata. I don't like so much sugar in my drinks, and the mild flavor of the almonds, cinnamon, and vanilla (plus lime) shines through this way. It's far more refreshing with less sugar, too. I made extra syrup though and saved it for my mother. She says she doesn't like things too sweet, but I've never been able to drink her lemonade or passion fruit juice because they're way too sugary for my liking, so I know she will probably complain that it needs sugar.
I do not have cheesecloth handy at the moment, so I used the finest strainer I have and strained many, many times (let's not give a number), then strained through a really tiny strainer I have that is basically for dusting over things, so it's very fine.
When I open the empanada place, homemade horchata will be served. And I think homemade frescavena, which is a drink mix from Quaker for a sweet oat drink. I bet a homemade version would be killer.

So now I have to keep an eye on her, too? Is that what you're saying?
Fine. For love of Queen and country, I'll do it, but I think we should enlist her as an ally instead, if for no other reason than her grammar skills.
We need a diplomat. I nominate: the Royal Hound, Lady Millie!

Calvin volunteers to be head invalid. Even in pain he's willing to help the cause.

spring - so sorry to hear the World Champion of Wienie Dog Races is not well! I know this sounds silly...but would it help to let him watch a movie (like Lassie!) or listen to some soothing music? {{{hugz}}} for you and Calvin!
