Thanks, Ninja. I realise that I whine a lot, and I really apologise to everyone here.

I am doing my best to get to a more positive place and I look forward to the day when I am truly happy with myself and everything I have achieved (or not achieved),

Can you be in love with cornbread? I sure am.

Coming soon: the epic love story of a woman and cornbread, and the baking powder that almost tore them apart.

I used the coarse ground yellow cornmeal tonight and I was thinking how AWFUL it was the first time around with that disgusting baking powder and how freakin' SCRUMPTIOUS it is tonight. Lurve, I'm in lurve!

I hate feeling different from everyone. I hate being shy.

I hate getting nagged "are you a vegetarian?? But you must be a vegetarian - you didn't eat the meat! And you didn't eat the dessert either. Are you a fussy eater??"

Leave me the f*ck alone! Am I bothering you? Do I care what you eat? I'm smiling and trying very hard to make conversation with total strangers with whom I have nada in common, because that's my job at this dinner which my job sponsored and it's freezing freezing FREEZING in here and I'm not getting paid OT but I have to do this and I profoundly want to be home with a good book.

End of rant. Now I feel better. You guys don't care if I'm weird.

Phoenix, I wish I could send you some of the yogurt from Parrot Coffee Market or some Skotidakis. They are both absurdly delicious.

Spring, I suppose you not only look the other way about cornbread's dalliances with butter and honey, but even encourage such things.

I had the most stressful morning at Toys R Us today. I finally made it through the line at the understaffed store, turned on my radio, and heard the opening strains of that horrid Christmas shoes song. You've never seen a person turn off a radio so quickly! It's my personal mission every Christmas season to avoid having to listen to that song in its entirety. So far, mission accomplished!

Thank you much, Sarcasm. Back at ya.

Saria, the dessert I didn't want to eat was a white chocolate timbale (don't know what that is but that is how it was described) covered in caramel.

I think white chocolate is foul.

You won't find much on either. The Parrot stuff I posted about here ---- it's from a local place. The Skotidakis I've talked about a lot. I first had it at one job a while back and have only been able to purchase it for myself at a local grocery (since I live in a Greek neighborhood --- even in Manhattan I can't get it) called Titan Foods, where they sell it in the deli by weight.

Curlypearl, I can understand that, but I will say that white chocolate when it's good quality is wonderful --- buttery and creamy and with a vanilla fragrance and flavor notes. It's also great used in desserts, though I wouldn't necessarily pair it with caramel since that might be a bit cloying.

Nallia, you gave me my first real happy grin of tonight. That post is the first step in restoring my fractured self-esteem. I was doing really well - then plop! I fell down a hole tonight. It's amazing how little it takes to make a person (or at least me) feel crummy.

Feeling better now. Sanity is coming back. Thanks, N.

Interesting! Maybe I should have tried it. I've only had crappy white chocolate which was stale and tasteless. Good to know! If I'm in a fancy restaurant and the food is good I'll try it - this was an Awards dinner for 500 people - you can imagine the standard wasn't high.

Try some Valrhona Ivoire or El Rey's Icoa, or Guittard white if you ever get a chance. Callebaut's is nice, too, though lower cocoa butter percentage. Even if you don't care for it then, desserts with white chocolate can be really delicious. It makes great ice cream, for one.

Here's a great post on white chocolate complete with tasting results. I now have new companies to seek out for white chocolate!
