I think the closest I came to liking french toast I made was when I used challah, but I don't think I let it dry out enough.
Good excuse to try again one weekend.
kayb, the only time I really ordered it was at a diner in our town when we lived in CT. It was made with challah and fan-tab-ulous. I'm not normally one to order breakfast when we are at a restaurant, but I'm sure glad I did!
I'm never super thrilled with my cooking, it always seems to taste better when someone else makes it.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

I like bread pudding in small doses. I tried making my own. I thought maybe that was the problem. I used fresh challah. Didn't know it had to stale. Didn't know it had to be cooked really slowly, either. Maybe that was the problem. I dunno. It was too eggy. I dipped it in maple syrup and that didn't even help. It was too one dimensional. I threw it all in the trash.
I had some in a restaurant once that wasn't any of those breads. It was like banana bread that someone fried up in egg and butter. Let's just say it was very very dense and very very nasty.
Maybe I'll give it one more try. One day.

Random: The word "wifey" bugs me. It's an annoying word.

Shallow thought of the hour...
My best guy friend (the straight one!) is brilliant, hilarious, has a heart of gold, would do anything for me and is even gorgeous and from a family with a ton of money so he is able to pursue his artistic endeavors with no stress.
My life would seem so much easier if he and I were romantically inclined towards each other.

On a totally related random note, that is what my coworkers and I call wi-fi. It started as a joke because I was complaining that I hate (we-fi) and one of my coworkers said "wifey." So that's my new name for wi-fi. As you were

((((TRBL)))) I'm so sorry! Being fired is awful, even if it means you don't have to deal with that soul-crushing co-worker anymore.

Tonight I almost asked my BFF- who is male- "why aren't we together again?"
He said something and I thought about it and came to the same conclusion. If only we could all marry our best friends.

Did you see the movie Something Borrowed? I didn't like the movie (loved the book, though) but the one thing I liked about the movie was Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski's friendship because they were SO much like us. I saw that in the theatre when I was away, the day after I completely had my heart broken and ended-up a little drunk and crying on the phone to my friend right after and he lectured me, and then they had the same exact conversation in the movie.
Of course, then they changed the book and suddenly John Krasinski was telling Ginnifer Goodwin he was in love with her! And that freaked me out because it seemed so unrealistic to me.
I rave about this guy to everybody, I couldn't possibly love him more, but I also feel like our relationship is strangely older brother/little sisterly (weird considering I'm a whole eight months older!) He's much more worldly and experienced and I think he looks at me like, "You don't have a father, you don't have brothers, you're a little backwards and innocent, I'm going to be the steady man you can always count on." He's SO protective, over every area of my life (guys/my family/my career).
There's probably, like, eight girls in the world that I would approve of for him, though.

Not really slowly, but if you cook it too fast, it browns but develops no crust, so you end up with no textural contrast.
If it was too eggy, lower your proportion of eggs to milk/cream. Try subbing in a few yolks for whole eggs, too.
Kayb, the custard base has sugar, but not as much as a bread pudding. It's not meant to be too sweet because it's going to get served with syrup/powdered sugar/honey/fruit compote, etc. I like vanilla as the main flavoring, and sometimes spices and citrus zest.

Me, too!
But, fortunately, our city just passed a secondhand smoke ordinance that prohibits smoking in common areas, including patios, balconies, and other common outdoor areas in apartment complexes and other public places. Additionally, in 2013, the ordinance was amended to then include apartment interiors, as well. So, a 100% smoking ban in apartments and condos. Having been frustrated with smoking neighbors since moving into this apartment, I just happened to stumble across an article about this ordinance in the local paper and brought it to the attention of our management company once it passed last month. Otherwise, they wouldn't have known about it, at least not immediately. Initially, I took the info to our chickensh*t resident manager, and he promised me he'd pass it on to management...which he didn't. Anyway, they passed around notices yesterday, and I haven't smelled smoke since.
VICTORY!!!!
ETA: I'm not so naïve as to think that someone won't violate the ordinance, though.

Well, it took about two weeks, but today these finally arrived!
Now I'm really loaded with vanilla! I especially love the sugary, rum-like scent of the Mexican vanilla extract.

I bought bottles and bottles of vanilla when we went to Mexico. I gave some as gifts and when mine ran out I regretted that decision.
TRBL I am so sorry. Even though you hated the workplace I am sure it was devastating. Take care.

So disappointed. I bought cinnamon/raisin bagels this weekend. They looked so yummy. I got them at a local bakery/deli store. They were not made at this bakery but by another bakery. I cannot taste cinnamon while eating them not can you smell any cinnamon while they are toasting. I do not require an overload of cinnamon but I would like to taste at least a little cinnamon. They actually taste like a plain bagel. I am even giving them a 2nd try today. Nope-nothing. End rant.

I am sick and tiered of most people. I just feel that everyone is pretending... Pretending to be good to each other while behind their backs they are actually hating one another. I feel sick to my stomach I feel I am surrounded by fakeness and fallacy
