Legends, what issues did you have with how she was written?

I do think the movie should be rated R. I get that because it's a YA series they want to keep it PG-13, but this is one very violent, gory series.

I went into Catching Fire expecting to see Katniss have some role in the rebellions in the districts, not one of leadership, obviously, but I expected her to take an active part, even a tiny one. Instead she was completely clueless about everything that was going on.

There were moments in Mockingjay that had me thinking that was changing, but everytime I got excited, she was smacked back down, once again the completely reluctant hero, the rebels' pawn. I kept waiting for her to develop a sense of her own power, to enjoy it just a tiny bit, and it never happened. And then that awesome scene with Coin near the end happens, and...oh, we get to be inside Katniss traumatized mind again instead of seeing the aftermath.

And I can't help thinking that that's not how it all would have happened if Katniss had been a man.

I enjoyed the first two books but I do think it gets a bit too much hype/credit than it's deserved *looks around in fear*. Every dystopian gets compared to it now and there are other (better) books out there. In my humble opinion

But any series that encourages reading is great. Im really excited about the movie - love the trailer music.

Ha! I told my mom she could take some of each of the dulce de leche types I made to my brother's place tomorrow. She tasted the coconut one, and said to me, while continuing to scoop, "you know, they don't eat much sweets; your brother doesn't like sweets. I don't think I'll take these."

This may be the next big project since I have masa harina sitting in my freezer and no plans to make tacos anytime soon. Plus champurrado hardly makes a dent in the masa!

I'll probably do tamales de salsa verde as well.
With leftover masa harina, crunchy corn empanadas seem likely.

Tamales are my most favorite thing, one day I will make some. I need to figure out a steamer alternative so I don't have to buy yet another thing. Saria, any ideas? That's really all that keeps me from trying them, I don't have a steamer.

You don't have a steamer of any kind?
You can just use a bamboo steamer. They're cheap and very useful. You can then cook tons of Asian dishes.

I mean, you could probably simmer them (pasteles, which are the Caribbean equivalent of tamales are simmered), but it's not quite the same, and you'd have to secure them as much as we do pasteles. Tamales don't get tied quite as tight as pasteles.
I say buy the steamer. It's a kitchen tool everyone should have.

Bamboo steamer...that's a possibility.

I seem to have this affliction that prohibits me from wrapping my brain around buying anything else I have to find a place to store in my kitchen. I think it's all the moving around.

Found a dress, but not with sleeves. It's at least bra friendly.

I got the grape color. I was washed out in the blue. Very strategic front draping. Nice.

And shoes.

All the new stuff I've bought this last year, and I had no nice cold weather stuff, lol.

I like that dress! The color is beautiful (much better than the blue) and will look great with your hair color!
The shoes are cool, but open toe in this weather?!
