I'm certainly not their target audience either. The books were initially intended for teenagers and were initially marketed as YA, but they're so well written that adults got into them too. I so intend to see this movie, even if I have to go alone.
I actually got interested in the books because of the movie trailers. A friend had recommended the books to me, I thought, "YA? No thanks." When I saw the trailer I thought it looked awesome. Read the books and thought they were just okay. I felt Collins had a great idea but lacked the writing skill to pull it off, but now I'm thinking maybe it's just the limitations of YA.

I'm still looking forward to the movies, though. I think this will be the rare case where the movie is better than the book.
I disagree with that. A lot of YA is better written than adult books. You just have to know where to look.

Books like Twilight give YA a bad name - sure there's a lot of paranormal sappy teenage romances (just like there's a lot of sappy 30-year old chick-lit in the adult section) but that isn't the extent of YA.

For my part, The Hunger Games is a good story - but not deserving of all the hype surrounding it. There are better dystopian YA out there.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the writing. A number of novels, both YA and adult, are crap, but I felt these books were some of the best ever written in any genre.
+1.

Most people can use the software to do their own. It really isn't that hard [as you now know].

And if anyone's concerned about an audit, through TurboTax they can pay a little more for audit protection, which means a CPA reviews it before you submit. Which is about as close as you can get to an accountant without actually hiring one to do the whole thing.

I do my own through TurboTax every year, and I have pretty complicated taxes [I have my own business]. The most time-consuming part is organizing my receipts and account info for deductions. It's not hard to do at all, it's actually kind of boring, it just takes time. And I would need to do that part myself before going to an accountant anyway.

I'm really just assuming on the YA part. Other than the first paragraph of Twilight I haven't read any. I wasn't saying that YA itself is bad, but a big part of my frustrations with the books was that I felt at many points that things could have been taken further, and I thought maybe the lack of depth was because of the age of the intended audience.

Well - there is truth to that

I do get annoyed when people (not you - this is more a reaction to some comments I read online about JK bringing out a new book) assume YA is badly written or not worth reading, or easily written by anyone because it's not for adults. Its the kind of mentality that drives me nuts.

As if all adult literature is worthy of awards!

Um, I used the app on my Droid and the mobile browser a few times before I gave up. I need help lol
I ended up doing a google search that said "I can't connect to naturallycurly.com!!" and something came up from 2009 but nothing recent. I thought maybe I had killed NC.com. I was scared! : )

After the 10th time I was like

"I can't connect to my hair board! This is stressing me out! I'm going to go take a shower."

Then I wondered if the boyfriend thinks I only talk about hair on the 'hair board'.

I was waiting for a thread to pop up this morning about what had happened. I also relentlessly kept trying to access on both phone and computer and gave up.

My husband has told me I talk about the curly board a lot.
