Yeah, this is what I mean. Just simply stepping outside and letting him know it wasn't just him and a defenseless kid out there.
I don't know...I've been reading more about Florida's Stand Your Ground law, and it really is a license to just shoot unarmed people and then claim self defense. It grants you immediate immunity. And considering what we know of Zimmerman--self-proclaimed Neighborhood Watch captain, over 40 calls to police since January about "suspicious" people--I doubt any witnesses would have stopped him.
Maybe you're right, but it still makes me sick seeing example after example of people doing nothing when someone desperately needs help. Hearing someone say how they "don't want to go out there" while watching some poor kid being chased down and screaming for help makes me sick.
Reading of someone actually seeing a grown man rape a young boy and just leaving makes me sick.
A little girl being run over, not just once either, and nobody being bothered to help her. Ugh, I just can't wrap my head around these things. I get that there is some psychological effect there, but really? That often? To that many people? In this last case it's especially perplexing because there is no danger to simply getting a little girl off the road!

I was a psych major in college and in one class I took for the major, it was explained that in incidents like these, people assume that somebody will step in or call for help, so they don't do anything. The end result is that nothing happens because everyone assumes somebody else will do something. It's a common reaction. There is a specific term for it but it's been over 20 years and I've long forgotten what it was. Blame the fact that humans have analytical and reasoning skills that no other species has.

I hate blinds. I just hate them.

I think its because my mother always had them in our house growing up.

I have curtains. Panels on decorative rods. I could use an update on them, but I like most of my curtains.

I love love the curtains in my bedroom. I keep those and decorate my room around them.

My bedroom has curtains and blinds. I don't want to be up with the sun.

my house actually came with big, heavy blinds in a white laminate finish in 4 rooms and truly gawdawful vertical blinds in 2 rooms.

the verticals came out in the living room right away and i replaced them with my floor to ceiling off-white voile drapes that i made myself with something that came from the remainder bin at the fabric store for $2 a metre.

i replaced the verticals in the back bedroom with pale beige roman shades that i also made myself with something i got on sale, and then put ivory voile curtains over them.

Finally making Imperial Palace happen tomorrow! I'm going to list things that I'm going to make sure we order since seeing it in list form makes it easier to keep track.

Crab sticky rice
Sizzling sable in black bean sauce
Maybe winter melon soup, since I want to taste winter melon
Snow pea leaves in crab and egg white sauce
Cumin lamb chop because I'm sure someone will want it
Cantonese style steamed fish
Steamed oysters with XO sauce
If they have it, snow crab steamed custard
Stir-fried conch
Peking pork chops

We may not get to all of these, but at least half, hopefully!

I really need to get off my ass and get new blinds already. Fortunately I'm a heavy sleeper so I don't quite wake up with the sun, but I've gotten less sleep then I'd prefer because of lack of blinds (and the goddam birds that build nests next to my window unit, but that's another story).

Oh, I totally agree. I get that fear can be paralyzing, but not one person? Although, if I lived in a state where it's common for people to walk around with guns, I'm not sure I'd ever get involved in anything. I'd like to think that I would, and I'm enough of a hothead that it's probable I'd jump in first and think later, but who knows?

Heh, funny about being a hothead is that my mother was talking about having a business in the Dominican, and how much money could be made, the only thing would be paying for "protection". And well, I know I'd get my ass killed, because no way in hell would I pay thugs. It's not even the money, but the principle of being a pawn in the crime and corruption. Can't do it.

I'm starting to feel like the last person who isn't on Pinterest and will never be.

Ahhh this is torture!

The lady at the jeweler where I gave my ring over to be re-sized last week when I was in my fiance's state (where he got it... they do it for free, and ship it to me for free) said my ring would likely be here before noon.

It's almost 2.

So far today I've seen the UPS truck pass by... then the mail truck... so um, FedEx, where are you?? I have the tracking number. My ring is on a truck. I just want it to come already. I'm sitting on my porch, painting my nails.

You are complaining about a home health aide who allegedly stole some dryer sheets from your house? I know that our members can complain about anything, but seriously? Time and money is being wasted while I have to contact the agency to get a statement and they could take anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks. You want the aide to be disciplined or fired over some damn dryer sheets? Really?

Wait, wait... the FedEx truck just barrelled past my house. Come baaaack! My ring is on that truck! Ahhh! Hopefully they just had another delivery to do in my neighborhood and they're coming right back.

Ugh, when my grandmother lived with my mother she would complain about the pettiest things, while adoring the most useless aides. Twice she called the agency to complain about wonderful aides who actually did the work they were supposed to do. But no, she much preferred the ones who just sat around doing nothing.

I'm not on Pinterest either. I've looked at it a few times, but don't want an account.

I noticed Calvin's back leg shaking this morning as I dried him off from his potty visit. Please, please don't let this be his back problem happening again, please. I've got him crated and he looks sad and confused and I'm pretty sure I look the same to him.

Just in photos Calvin has the most heart-breaking sad eyes. It must be hard actually seeing that look in person.

I figured with your love of blogs that they would have gotten you. But you won't desert me, will?!

Thankfully he's snoozing right now so the heartbreaking is on the back burner for a little bit. He's being such a good boy. I'm trying to keep calm so he doesn't pick up on that, but I'm honestly terrified.

RE: Pinterest, I know, right? I was thinking if anyone should have a Pinterest account it should be me, but I just don't want to get sucked in. I have used it a few times searching for project ideas, but it's just all too much for me. Overwhelming. I can't make any promises, but I'll try to resist for the greater good.

I REALLY REALLY hate that everyone always tries to ruin my trip idea by saying it's too dangerous. Leave me a lone you scary cats. Paris - Morrocco, or Barcelona - Istanbul or Rome - Budapest sounds great. I arleady gve up Athens because of the riots, now leave me alone.

Yes! And oooh, Loews theater... Fancy. I've always liked that theater, but it's too much of a hike for me.

Anyway. I'm so excited. It's one of the only things that's getting me through these next two days! How sad. Haha

I wish I could paint my nails with fancy pants flame designs!
