You're right! I was thinking it was just me. It looks odd, though. Hard to tell when something is bolded.

It seems to be a little larger and easier to read, or is it just me? And the preview and submit reply buttons have changed/moved. Also much larger and easier to read. I think they did this for my 37th birthday so it would be easier on my old eyes. Aren't they sweet?

Somehow I ended up with two extra balls of filling for my shengjian bao. Clearly I fail at counting.

I dont....just wondering why an adult would be envious of a kid.

Well, obviously you do care or you wouldn't have asked.

But here you go:

Your not envious of children's care free lives? That they don't work? That they get cool toys (electronic or traditional)? That they can watch cartoons without judgement? And they can do a bunch of other cool kids stuff?

FFS kids* have a great life. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is envious of kids.

* most kids we all know

Kids should not have iPhone's or iPads imo. That is adult world let them play with other things, they can use desktops or laptops

Is it wrong for a grown woman to want/wear/even contemplate buying these?

My kids play with electronics all the time. Hello, it's 2012. You can try all you want to keep them playing with old fashioned conventional toys, but with technology, and the evolution of our society, electronics is just the way it's going to go. Why fight it?

Besides, a lot of games are geared towards education. My kids have games that teach them the alphabet, how to read, how to trace/write letters, math, drawing pads and painting for creativity, healthy eating, etc -

I become slightly irritated by the argument that kids need to not play with electronics - why, just because we didn't have it? Why does that mean to go without is better? People didn't used to have cars, or the internet - does that mean we are better without them? I think it's better to allow kids to grow up in the societal environment we live in.

I don't, however, agree with children playing Call of Duty, or some other violent game that just isn't healthy for kids to submerge themselves in. And I think it's unnecessary for a 9 year old to have their own iphone - but I'd rather have my kids entertained by playing learning games on their Leap pad or Nintendo DS in the car than just listening to random music on the radio.

I don't know what to do.

I really love my foster dog Mia/ Mimi/Trundle. She's fantastic: obedient, adorable, polite, friendly, and fun. She goes everywhere with me, and never causes trouble. She gets along with all my other dogs, even when she was in heat (mine are all fixed; she's scheduled for spaying in early May).

The trouble is, if I keep her, I can't foster other dogs, which is what I signed up for. On the other hand, she is an AmStaff, so who knows how long it will take for her to find a home? And who deserves her? (Fortunately, I don't handle the adoption part, since I'd just say "no.")

If I don't keep her, she'll be attending a monthly adoption event, in which lots of strangers will meet her, which is fine............but the prospect of displaying her as available makes me uneasy. I keep picturing icky men in dirty trucks with the sleeves cut off their plaid shirts showing up and asking creepy questions. I know the rescue people will blow them off, but........argh!

This is the part of fostering at which I fail. I fall in love, and get possessive.

Sigh.

I don't think CL cares how you (gy) choose to raise your kids regarding technology. It was just her two cents. She didn't go into the thread touching on this subject and criticize anyone over how they parent.
Plus she's poking fact at the honest reason that hey, there is an element of begrudging kids the nice fancy things we want and can't have.

My argument is not because I didn't have them. See my post upthread. And I am certainly not anti-technology. Our household of 4 people has the following small electronic gadgets:

5 iPods
2 iPhones
1 iPad
2 Windows smartphones
1 Kindle
2 Kindle fire
5 laptop computers

My point is that young kids don't need to be rushed into the world of personal electronic devices so early. As they grow older, those things definitely have their place. I have 2 teenagers, 17 and 15, and just in the last 6 months to a year have they received their smartphones and Kindle Fires. We do severely limit their time on both of those. I would rather see their noses buried in a book, playing a board game, playing outside, or just spending time with friends and family, ya know, actually talking to other human beings. Too many times I have seen young children out at stores and such, totally focused on these small devices and not only not paying attention to where they are going, but not engaged in the world around them.

I fight it because I have seen the results in my own children and I'm confident we did our best to hold back the tide as best we could and they're better for it. We also ditched cable 12 years ago for lots of the same reasons.

Parents can make their own decisions about their kids and technology, obviously. I see nothing wrong with commenting on it, though. Just trying to clarify my post.

Goody for you, mother Teresa!

Christ, use your long life to do something other than troll people on a message board, at least.

Seriously, why do you care? She's not going around snatching kids' snazzy gadget out of their hands. Or advocating that they have their high tech toys taken away. Last time I checked, my fleeting *evil* thoughts of jealousy, anger, lust, [insert sin here] didn't actually hurt anyone, including myself since they're just fleeting thoughts.

I really should have taken today off. After doing what needed to be done this morning, the afternoon is really dragging.
