In the retail stores I worked at, anyone was allowed to try on bras, but not panties. I had to re-hang plenty of tried on bras. It's not the easiest thing to do either.

A lot of posters (or maybe most) said they wash new clothes before wearing them because people try them on. I guess I live dangerously, because I really don't think about that. I'm sure people try on my clothes, but the thought just really doesn't bother me. New clothes fit wonderfully and look great. Plus I am really impatient about wearing them, so no way I'm ever going to wait until after washing them.
What about bedbugs and other mites that may be living or crawling on the clothes...

I don't bother with other new clothing. You all should be careful though because even though you wouldn't think it happens it very well does. It also was news a few years ago about how bacteria gets on the underwear (because of people trying them on and touching them) and of course you can't see it. All in all it's just better to be safe than sorry

I always, always, always wash new clothes... Period!! I worked in more than one clothing store where roaches poured out of the shipping containers, that held the new clothes. Dis-gus-ting!!

P.S- I hope everyone has been well over the past few months.

I just don't sweat it. I couldn't possibly know about that, only imagine scenarios. I have enough to worry about.
But I think I said in that thread, I'm just not much of a germophobe. I don't worry too much about whether someone is "clean" or not before eating their food (Dominicans love to give speeches about how they won't eat just anywhere, how do you know if so and do is clean, blahblahblah, insert argument to justify notorious Dominican food pickiness), I'll share water bottles, spoons, chapstick (I'll not do it if it belongs to someone else and I think they'll be bothered), eat from other people's plates (once three of us took a bite out of one plum, heh), and eat plenty from street vendors.

There were mice in our stock room and I don't doubt they were crawling on the cloths that were in there

No shame.
Where?

She's giggling/posting/coding, in various threads, about various topics, not about the recent controversy. I know she's greatly amused, because there are lots of LOLs in her posts. It seems to be great fun to feel powerful from stirring pots with hate and watching them boil over. It must be especially satisfying this time that someone actually got temporarily banned, and she didn't.

Saria I'm really surprised you don't fret about germs with you being a chef. Most people I know that deal with food on a daily basis don't play about germs and bacteria with anything. I don't mean anything by that of course other than I'm surprised

I thought regular washing machines don't get rid of those anyway?

Most cooks don't stress about germs. We care about food safety, but sharing spoons, eating off plates, and not stressing little stuff when it comes to food are pretty common (see food-focused travels to certain countries where food safety is nowhere near as strict as here). I know I stressed more about it before becoming a cook.

I figure if it's cooked, most of the germs get cooked out anyway!

I've been hot-flashing all my life...since puberty. No one believed me. Now, at menopause, my hot flashes are NO-BIG-DEAL, because they're actually easier than my old hot flashes.

I get hot flashes at ovulation and during my period and have since my teens. I think any hormonal fluctuation can cause them, since I also had them while pregnant.

Re: washing new clothes - what about dry-clean only items? I just recently bought a light grey tropical wool suit and a sateen dress that is mostly white - both are dry clean only and I'm sure would run me at least $40 or so each to clean. Would you guys who wash new clothes spring for that before you even wear them or get them dirty?

Smoked paprika is awesome. If it makes you feel better, I have sweet, hot, and bittersweet smoked paprika, so I'm the most affected.

That peanut butter will be good in your smoothies.

Scrills, you should make some of these with the smoked gouda. Now I've got to make some....oh darn.

Speaking of cheese, I'm out of both Mt. Tam and Brillat Savarin. The Brillat Savarin I eat at work (lots of people ask about it whenever they get the cheese plate, and that's because Brillat Savarin is made of magic). The Mt. Tam, well, I'm almost out of black soap, so I guess I have no choice but to go to WF! If I happen to stop by the cheese section, well, what can you do?
