Say It. I Dare You.

I suddenly feel the urge to bang my head against a wall. Repeatedly.
it turned into a circular argument with the same people saying the same things over and and over and over some more.

i think we need to step back and get SOME distance from it. the topic will always be there and will not go away. we can't solve it by going round in circles...

You know, people do just happen to agree on things. The "ganging up" is imagined. This idea that there are all these behind-the-scenes calls for backup is pretty absurd. Might it happen on a rare occasion? Maybe, but those are pretty rare.
You feel sidelined or left out? Speak up. Or should everyone else be quiet so you can feel like people aren't banding together against you?
And special interests? Special powers? JFC THIS IS A MESSAGE BOARD!!!

I want to say WTF (what the fudge, ya know, gotta follow the rules) but I expected it. I'm surprised it wasn't closed earlier
My hair is driving me crazy, I cannot get this frizz to go away.

Curlylaura, I thougth there was at the very least ONE new board created...I thought there were three created, but I am not sure. I do know that one or two of them was very "invite only" type of stuff and they had to make sure that you weren't someone who stirred things up...back-ground check of sorts. But, this is only what I heard from other parties who joined, I never tried myself.

At any rate, looks like we have a few new mods, the rules are being looked at...so what else can we, or they do at this point?

I agree with your last paragraph.

I've tried ignoring nc but keep getting sucked back into it. I can't lurk very well.

My Trader Joes had both Carmelized Onion Dip AND Cookie Butter in stock. I am one happy camper!!!

We also saw the Space Shuttle here outside our office this morning. Sometimes living close to DC is cool! (sometimes...)

Someone diagnose me:

Everytime I pee the back half of my pelvic floor hurts. It's very annoying.

I can't decide;
Result of last years surgery?
Constipation, although I don't think I am?
Piles?
Stupid period after effects?
Endometriosis has returned?

I was only at the GP yesterday and completely forgot to ask about this. Stupid girl.

Here's a better explanation:

It's a Belgian invention made from the cinnamon-spiced shortbread cookie called speculoos, and it comes with a little bit of industrial cloak-and-daggery, which you can read about in this New York Times story. The cookies are ground into a smooth, creamy paste, just like peanut butter. Because it's made with no nut products, those with nut allergies can enjoy the fat-and-sugar rush without worry.
I'm so annoyed. I wanted a little treat, so I went to Starbucks before work, and got a chai tea latte. I like them, hence why I ordered one... But the dude somehow heard "grande" even though I definitely said "tall." So I got charged for and given a grande, even though the most I can ever drink of something like this is a tall! I didn't realize what had happened until I'd already left, and noticed that the cup is much bigger than usual.

So half of it is going to waste! I just can't drink any more of it... Grr.

Way overkill on the amount, but we had a ton of salmon scrap and I wanted to use it while it was still fresh!

I agree mistakes were made on this issue and on plenty of other issues in the past. Things are being worked on now in order to fix them for the future. The mods don't have a desire to stifle discussion of any kind. The changes in the rules are being put in place to help prevent the same issues; to make it easier for the members to know what is and isn't accepted here; and to make it easier for the mods to enforce them. Some of the current rules will no longer exist (like the rule about acronyms), and there will be some new ones.

Yes, I felt the same way as many of you not very long ago, but I also didn't have the information I have now. And even with more information, I still agree that it was handled very badly. However, I can now say with confidence that it wasn't due to indifference. It was an honest mistake.

No quotes in signatures is not the takeaway from this. The takeaway is that too many things have been missed or overlooked for too long, and that it needs to stop. The takeaway is that communication between the staff and the members has been sorely lacking and that it needs to be fixed. The takeaway is that while respectful debate--even of hot topics--is to be encouraged, drama and nastiness toward each other is to be prevented for the good of all. The takeaway is that the rules were too often overlooked or outright ignored out of a desire to be nice and that it needs to stop. The no quotes in signatures without permission rule is only a tiny, tiny part of that. If all some of you have come away with is that signatures are all that's cared about by the staff, then that's one more symptom of the bigger communication and moderation issue.

Gretchen posted what she did in an effort to explain that she realizes there have been mistakes and errors in judgment and that she is working on fixing it. It wasn't an attempt to sweep anything under the rug or ignore anything. It was an acknowledgement. In the end, how this forum is run is completely up to Gretchen. We can all give our thoughts and opinions, but she has the final say, and there will never be a time when there is unanimous agreement on any course of action, no matter how well intentioned.

It was decided that nothing new was going to be gotten from the discussion, and that it was more important to move forward and do our best to see to it that these things don't happen again, for the good of the forum (if the thread were closed because the mods were being criticized, it would have been closed days ago). In the end, it is the good of the entire forum that matters. Will the members always agree as to what that is? No. Will we do so perfectly? No. We aren't infallible and never will be. But all of us, old mods and new, are committed to doing our very best going forward. I can understand if past issues have made it too difficult for you to be optimistic that we are willing to and will work to change things, but I hope you will give us the chance to try.
Its the cookies clique. To quote a wise poster "I gon lern "

Also, what the hell is with some people and the idea that something vegetable-heavy can't be satisfying? It's bad enough that only a rare vegetarian meal gets a pass (see the grain salad that while according to them was good, it was also bird food), but really, a salad can't be a meal? It's a "salad" packed with protein FFS. Of course, one straight up said "I like grease" and another is just sad he can't drown this one in ketchup (yep, he even slathered a fajita in ketchup yesterday).
