Really I think the only downside of NYC (aside from expense) is the weather. Summer is so short and it's so cold for most of the year. I wish it were minimum 75F year-round!

that's a horrible myth that was debunked YEARS ago!

there is no such thing as a base tan or "safe" sun exposure for people with pale skin like most of those in the British Isles have. the darker your NATURAL skin tone, the more sun you can take, but don't think that black people don't tan or burn or get skin cancer either - Bob Marley died of melanoma.

the depleting ozone layer is no joke; the loss of it makes the sun's rays even stronger as they hit us. and if you live in a big city with pollution - like that other London in England - the dirty air magnifies the worst of the sun.

This is what bothers me the most. The impression that you are not healthy unless you are tan. It gets annoying when you are trying your hardest to be healthy, for you, and people look at you like you're sick. So sorry I'm not meeting the current industry standard of beauty. I've got frizzy hair and pasty legs. Somebody call a priest because I must be on my death bed.

kayb, put on some sad music or a sappy movie and let it out! Go ahead and cry if you need to, and are somewhere that you can.

I disagree with Seventeen magazine about many things but one thing I appreciate is that every summer for the pat few years they have several articles about safe sun exposure, wearing sunscreen, not using tanning beds, and recommendations for self-tanners instead of going out in the sun.

My love of warm weather comes at a price. My pale girl skin burns so easily! I've gotten more on top of it recently, and my mom's job as a melanoma researcher definitely reminds me that it's not a joke.

It's a minimum of that in dry season/winter where my brother lives, although 40C is not unheard of during the wet season/summer. It's frizz city in the summer. But I still want to live there again.

I had such grand plans for today, and I turned on the tv and flipped through the guide and saw four college softball games, two baseball games and an NBA game...I am in for the day. So much for groceries.

How do you look at someone and think "short of plastic surgery this person will never be attractive?"

How do you handle hearing that about yourself? I don't know how to do this one. I cannot do it by myself.

^Wait, did he say that?!

I guarantee his ass is nothing to write home about. Bunch of idiot men out there who think they're entitled to women far too good for them and always looking to "upgrade" when they're lucky to get any woman to pay half a mind to them.
You are most definitely a good-looking woman and I KNOW far too good for this fool.

He did and I know I'm not supermodel gorgeous, but this has got to be the meanest things I have ever heard. Apparently his family thinks so too.

I'm great, but hideous; and since men are visual creatures I don't stand a chance.

^Ugh, whatever. His family can DIAF. The fact that he had the gall to say something like that to you says everything you need to know about him. They can keep their prize of a man for some other unfortunate woman.

Then you and I can go to Greece and pick up beautiful men and we'll see who's undesirable!

Love you, too, life twin.

And SIB has a point. He's a prime candidate for a curly kick in the 'nads line-up.
