^See, I don't like arbitrary three day rules either, though. It's just a matter of what keeps and what doesn't and if you're going to actually eat it. Consider the freezer if you don't think you will!

Cake, left out as it should be (not refrigerated, for the love of god), will keep for as long as a week depending on the cake. Some cakes are best two or three days later, even.
A stew will get better after the first day. Properly stored, there's no reason it can't be kept five days.

On the other hand, risotto needs to be eaten right away. If you're not going to, make arancini, or risotto cakes, or risotto timbales, etc, forget it. It's just not the same.

You need stale rice, ideally, to make fried rice, so leftover rice is not a bad thing. You can make a lot with stale rice, really.

Shortbread keeps for weeks, and are best at least a day after baking. But a cookie like chewy oatmeal stales pretty fast. I will toss them after a couple of days. And they should not be refrigerated! WHY DO I KEEP SEEING REFRIGERATED COOKIES?!!!!!
Foods like scallops will just be rubber if you try re-heating them. Consume right away! For that matter, I was baffled seeing stuff about people cooking scallops to freeze for later. Won't somebody think of the poor scallops?! They literally take less than five minutes to cook! Why would you need to ever cook them ahead of time?!

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
^There are definitely exceptions, but overall, simple cakes (like coffee cakes, muffins, pound cake, buckles) don't need to be refrigerated. Nor do cakes with buttercreams unless it's blazing hot. Yet I see them tossed in the fridge all the time, especially ones that contain fruit.
Same goes for pies.
The worst offender is bread in the fridge, though. Refrigerator temperature is actually the ideal range for staling bread. Either leave it out or freeze it!
You know what I always hated? My mom puts stuff like tomatoes in the fridge.

I need some serious motivation right now.

School is the only push factor for me to move to Kingston right now. Nothing else, and I don't know if I am up for spending close to a million dollars for a degree. Sure it will be in a field which is more marketable than my current one but all I can see right now are dollar signs.

As opposed to staying here with my family and being the deadbeat that I feel like. I have a tentative job offer from the school I worked for up to May. I might as well just accept it.

I dunno. I lack......ambition.
