Speaking of "-kie" names... I just noticed on My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding the other day that there are two cousins on there named Nookie and Pookie. Ack.

In other news: we were at a family member's funeral viewing tonight, and I bent over about half an inch (and I was wearing pants) to look at some pictures... I turned around to make sure that I wasn't blocking anyone's way, and totally caught some guy checking out my butt! First of all, THIS IS A VIEWING! Second of all, just because I don't look familiar to you doesn't mean we're not related. We are. Ew. Creepy. Here's a suggestion: Next time you're at a funeral, just assume that you're related to everyone there.

To top it off, I texted my friend to tell her about it, and sent it to my mom instead! Luckily, we were in the car together, and I managed to intercept the message from her phone. I guess you could say I'm practically Jason Bourne.

I received the following Groupon offer today:

Father's Day deals for the man who felt you kick inside him for nine months.

Who writes these things?

I think I read it three times before it even sunk in...the man...nine months...?
Maybe it was intentional? It sure caught my attention.

with all the coverage of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, I have to admit that I am enjoying all the hats. I'm trying to remember the times I've worn hats and there are very few and all so casual. Cold weather hats, such as for shoveling snow, baseball type caps for days in the sun, graduation. Nothing as elegant as what we've seen on tv.

I remember my mom telling me that when she was young, (in the 40s, 50s, into the 60s) she always wore a hat to Mass, women and girls were expected to cover their heads in a church. I think I remember my Nana sometimes wearing one to church in the early 70s, and there was one woman in our church, about 10 years ago, who did so every Sunday. She was in her late 80s and always looked to 'put together' to me.

I am wondering, in England, are the hats common for regular dress up situations for regular people, or is this something only seen under the pomp and circumstance of the royalty?

oh you've reminded me...

when my mom took my sister and i to Ireland in 1968, Vatican II had already taken place and women were no longer *required* to wear head coverings in church. but traditions die hard in that country and it nearly caused an international incident when my family went to mass and my sister and i weren't wearing hats!

Most people will wear them for horse race meetings and weddings. That's it. Royals seem to wear them all the time

I'm thinking of having a donations drive for a womens and childrens shelter in my area.

At the very least, once I find out where to donate, I'll ask around my neighbors to see if they have stuff. I have so much stuff sitting around my house .

Haha, will you have your hair in rollers, too?
How about sweatpants that say juicy?

This trip is already an adventure. I missed my bus. I looked up all buses running to Boston, and so many lies about running every hour for some! Then the ones that were and the ones that weren't were all sold out, earliest time available being 1 PM.
So, one last try: the Chinatown buses! I figured if anyone is really running every hour, it's buses in Chinatown. There's just too many people traveling back and forth between the two states for them not to. I got a ticket!
So hopefully xcptnl won't hate me for getting there a bit later.
