People steal clothes (soaking wet, even) from the laundromat all the time.

I used to hate going with my mom when we didn't have a washer and dryer. It sucked. And we had to lug all our clothes over a mile.

Been doing laundry for at least ten years and never had anything go missing. Nor do I know anyone who had clothes stolen. Just like I have no interest in anyone else's clothes, nobody has any interest in mine. It's kind of pointless to steal random used clothes. Don't nobody want your ****!

I feel like you never know who is hanging out just waiting and watching for someone to come in and leave their stuff just so they can take it. A person like that can steal it, sort through it and are fine taking their chances on what they might find. They've really got nothing to lose by throwing stuff in the trash they don't want or can't sell.

I just don't trust people.

Me neither Saria. I don't go to the laundromat anymore but I always liked getting lots of laundry done all at once.

Where I'm from, we called it a washateria.

I agree, I think it's pointless to steal a lot of things, but some people steal just for the hell of it.

My feet are so pretty. Smooth, sparkly and my piggies are tipped in red. I went to get a manicure and the first lady cut my toe not once but twice. I was ready to but the owner came and took over. She spent an hour doing my toes and I got an arm massage too! I got a discount and paid $25 and I got my hair done for free! A+ customer service for the owner, and she confided in me that the lady will no longer be doing nails (she's not losing her job) and she will probably do hair. D- for the first lady. She was too rough too.

The thing is that it's just not a very lucrative business to steal used clothes from a laundromat, though. People with really valuable clothes aren't likely to be washing them at a laundromat. It's worth way more trouble than it would be worth.
So it's not really about trusting people, it's more that there's very little to be gained from bothering to hang out in laundromats to possibly steal used, fairly worthless clothes.

I need a pedicure! It's supposed to rain all weekend so maybe I'll get one!

As to stealing clothes, if someone stole my stuff they'd have to be in dire straits!

This is true, but I figure the percentage of kleptos and thieving *******s is fairly low that I can take my chances. I was far more nervous about my laundry while I was in school and used the dorm's laundromat. I wouldn't have put it past my fellow culinary students to steal chef whites.

saria, you're right. I guess I always expect the worst from people or am overly suspicious.

HAHA! Wish I had thought about mentioning that when he said it.

And WHAT IS WITH the board no longer quoting a whole string of quotes any more?? I usually edit down to only what is relevant, but sometimes having that string of quotes IS relevant.

I lived in a nice building in Chicago, and people stole my clothes from the basement laundry room. Directly from the washer, no less.

I think it's gross to go through some stranger's wet clothes, but apparently, not everyone else does.

After that episode, we started going to a laundromat down the street. The owner had a deal with the lesbian bar next door that customers could get a free drink while they waited for their clothes to dry. So, we did.

WTH? City life: you're all mixed together. It was fun.
