FC I hate people who let off fireworks not on the 4th. Because they 4th isn't stressful enough for my dogs. Poor doggies.

It's right outside of Lilly's bedroom. She is spending the night with my parents, but I would be calling the cops if she were home and being woken up. I can't stand these people.

ETA: Bryan said that they lit a dud while he was outside with the dog. That was at 10 and my heart is still racing 45 minutes later.

It's funny 'cause it's true! No, seriously, tilapia is fine for staff meals and what have you, but I can't believe anyone actually tries to sell tilapia to actual customers. Bad establishment trying to make a profit from what is fish considered too cheap for paying customers!

jess, I opened this thread *just* as some douche nugget set of some fireworks and freaked the dog out. ugh.

Our neighbors (that we don't know very well) have a street party planned for the 4th that they've invited us to and I have no idea what we'll do about Calvin here alone.

My poor old girl is still terrified of fireworks which sucks for her because we are half a mile from where they are held on the 4th. Cool for us people though since we can watch from our front yard.

No wonder people in the UK have a reputation of having the grossest teeth ever after listening to this idiotic conversation while I'm having lunch.

Why would you rather chuck yourself off a building than keep a dental appointment? Is the dentist really that bad?

But then you want better teeth. Does not compute.

Also the cow that was *****ing about me yesterday for not having the ability to split myself in two is now complaining that other people are talking about other people. But it's ok to ***** about me. I'm looking for a new job ASAP.

Last night when you were trying to post pics, I only saw tiny boxes with question marks in them. Now it's still tiny boxes, but they have pink & blue dots in them.

Yeah, the app does that sometimes.

I have to resort to doing it the old-fashioned way and copying the URL.

We have a state ban on open burning (as of 6/14), to include fireworks. I don't think that'll change in the next 4 days. And come to think about it the roadside tents that sell fireworks aren't up, I hadn't noticed until now. Not a big deal, I think most of us here are used to not having any.

The town where I am right now isn't allowing personal fireworks, sparklers, etc. because of the heat and lack of rain. Even the crops here look dry. Still, I can hear some goofballs complaining that their holiday is being ruined. The main fireworks tomorrow show is still on since the fire dept is present for it.

Okay, very important thing that I didn't think of when I was finally able to log back in: I was really down in my last post before I went away. When I read the supportive responses I got from various curlies in this thread, I literally got choked up by how grateful I was and how supported and appreciated I felt. I'm going to refrain from going back and finding those posts at 5:30 in the morning because even all sleepy-stoned I can tell that's not a good plan, but I just had to put this out there. Thank you so much for the hugs and shared experiences. I can't lie and say I'm not depressed anymore or even that I've found a therapist I have a good rapport with who is not currently closing her practice (I have some timing), but I think the emotional boost from this thread was better than anything either therapist gave me. I'm so glad I found this site with that google search for curly hair products back in high school.

Aaaaaand sleep. *thud*

There's a forest fire going in a national park not too far from where I live. I'm worried about the idiots with fireworks over the next few days. :/

Oy, recipe reviews:

Quote:
I did not, however, use the frosting as it came out more like a glaze
Referring to this:

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 large egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt

Make frosting:
In a metal bowl set over a pan of simmering water whisk together frosting ingredients until mixture is warm and sugar is dissolved. With a portable electric mixer on high beat frosting 6 to 7 minutes, or until thick and fluffy. Remove bowl from heat and beat frosting until cooled slightly.

OMG, if you got a glaze out of that, you didn't beat it enough. That's a meringue!

Quote:
I would make a simple white cake instead of this complicated cake base.
Quote:
Next time I may substite pre-baked angel food cake and cheat a little because the whole process is very lengthy
Um, this is a simple white cake, and the "complicated" part is just standard dry/wet/dry mixing procedure. It's done for for a whole lot of American cakes.
This just isn't a particularly time-consuming cake. It's got three components, two being pastry cream, which is quick, and a seven-minute frosting. Epicurious has way more elaborate stuff.

What the hell has happened to epicurious reviewers?! It's like allrecipes members have invaded it or something!
