My folks had a nice visit. Also, they *loved* Buddy, and he loved having more people to headbutt for attention. He's a charmer.
Siri types my posts for me.

My brother just told me if I had red hair, I'd look like Merida from Brave. Haha I'll take that as a compliment.

Okay, this is really annoying me lately because I keep seeing it in fics. Writers, backside = butt, bum, the behind, ass, tukkis, the bottom, buttocks, the rump. It does not mean a person's back. If you want to say that some put their hand on someone's back, just say that, not backside! I understand that technically backside can be used that way, but considering how it's come to mean butt (for example, "pat on the backside"), don't use it!

Multiple people have seriously been using "backside" to mean "back"? I wonder if I've actually witnessed this error but have just assumed that some event being described was a lot more inappropriate than it actually was.

Yes, it's so annoying! I figure it's a recent trend because I never saw any fic that used it like that before. Just use "back"!!! I've had to re-read a few times to make sure I had the right context.

I'm so mad I made it to work 20 min late. There was traffic for absolutely no reason! Well, except for the fact that these people wanted to drive slower than molasses and leave huge gaps thus creating said traffic. I hate VA and these non-driving mofos.

Yes. Yes, you are.
-------------------------------
Man, we had such a nice, relaxing weekend. It was really great. We had some friends over for a BBQ Saturday, then just hung out and went swimming yesterday.
My poor husband has been working like crazy lately. He's a programmer at a charter school company, and they've been doing their submission of records to the state for all the schools. He has to be on hand in case there are errors in the reporting that have to manually overriden, and for some reason this year has been especially awful. I'm glad he got to take the whole weekend off and just chill. The kids have really missed him since he's not been home by bedtime most nights the past few weeks.

No matter how much I tried to get used to the idea, I still find American beaches to be pretty removed from what the word "beach" conjures up. Hawaiian beaches look pretty good, but otherwise American beaches are depressingly plain. I'm so used to the idea of shady beaches with trees from growing up in the DR.
When you grow up going to Playa Grande and to El Caletón de Dario, that's kind of what you think a beach looks like, so even when you know it's not the case here, it's still a tiny bit disappointing each time.

And on the subject of these beaches, I'm glad to read that Cabrera still remains mostly unspoiled by tourism. If anyone were to ask me where to go in the DR, I'd say Cabrera. It's just a beautiful, relaxed area of the Dominican Republic, unlike Punta Cana and other overpriced tourist traps, which while nice, exist mostly to separate people from their money.

There is no way for me to say what I want in that thread that doesn't sound "mean." And I sincerely believe it needs to be said. This is killing me.

Saria, I've never been to Cabrera...it looks gorgeous.

Tell me!!!!!!!!
It really is. It's where I lived before moving to the US. Some good eats, too. You can get still-warm queso de hoja in certain parts. It's so good!

You're killing me - I miss Caribbean beaches!
The beaches here are nice, but they are lake beaches - the water is fresh, and cold, and dark. And the trees are definitely missing. I pine for warm, salty, clear blue ocean water. I also miss black sand.

Well ya, those are Caribbean beaches. They're going to be much different. Pacific beaches look different from Atlantic beaches, southern coastal beaches look different from New England beaches.
It doesn't make it less of a beach. Its just geography.

My white walls look horrible. So I'm washing them. Which may even be worse than painting them, but less prep - and I don't have paint.

I simply don't think there's enough coffee to get me through this work day *sigh*
