Someone asked me yesterday what the Spanish word for dumpling was and I was stumped. "Dumpling" is such a broad term, and an apple dumpling is so different from those in chicken and dumplings, are so different from Asian dumplings, which themselves come in an incredibly wide range. So I looked it up and dictionaries are as stumped as I am. No wonder the word dumpling has become a popular Spanglish term (but it's pronounced more like doompleeng)!

Who on earth decided that the first pitch should be thrown before the singing of the National Anthem?!

I hit a frog with my car on the way home. I want to cry.
----------------------------------------------------------
I finally flew. It's been over a month since I've last flown and it felt so good to be in the air again. I couldn't fly with Capt. Death, he's back in school and really busy these days, but I got the next best thing, Capt. J.
I've seen him around the airport but I've never had a legitimate conversation with the man until today. He's okay, I guess. While I enjoyed his method of instruction I found his sense of humor off-putting.
He also kept wrapping his arm around my chair and calling me chick. WTH Capt. J. I was annoyed with him at first but I soon realized that this man really doesn't have a clue as to how he comes off to people. Get a grip Capt. J!
ETA
i forgot to mention that I almost barrel rolled the plane. It was accident, I swear!!! Capt. J recovered the plane for me while I had my panic moment.
-------------------------------------------------------------
J.C. Penny has a come a long way. I actually enjoy shopping there now.

Ugh. So frustrated.
Can you just disappear from my life? At this point I think if rather wonder WTF happened to you than to continue knowing.
That feels horrible BTW.

Since I was going to be processing tomatoes earlier which always creates a murder scene on the counters and my shirt I figured I would wear my apron, which I rarely do. Mr. Spring decides to come into the kitchen and see what I'm up to and upon seeing me says "Hey, you got that maid thing on." which led to me giving him major side eye and responding "My WHAT?" Oh my goodness, I gave him such crap about that and it was so funny neither of us could stifle the laughter.

Netflix really did well this go-around. Aside from Dinosaurs, I've seen that Baccano! and Samurai Champloo are both there now. I watched Mean Girls this morning then saw that Clueless is also there now. I want to know what other awesome things they've added!

That line...is familiar...How early in the show was it? Argh, I'm forgetting what I watched and I want to watch more anyway! I can't believe I've put another arbitrary barrier between myself and ATLA (and eventually LoK) with the blog naming thing. So many rant-related names are already taken. People get aaaangry on the internets. It's not like I'm gonna come up with the most awesome blog name ever, but I still don't want to settle for, like, "soheresmyblogstfuandreaditok.blogspot.com." Which is probably already taken as well.
I made my random never-used blogspot blog in August of 2007. Ho-ly crap. Recent high school graduate WS was apparently very optimistic about her ability to keep a blog, considering her repeated failure to do the diary thing. She also thought she'd have more time and access than she actually would to cultivate non-academic career connections while in college. This is also why I can't use the blog as-is - its name is a dead giveaway of who I am and there's a reasonable likelihood that I'll work in the entertainment industry once I'm out in the world again. I can totally see some bigtime director blackballing me over a few "Damn this director to hell!"s and "Why does this exist?!"es. (Touchy. )
Heh, I can't say I'll be able to keep myself from looking at what others say about LoK once I start watching, even knowing that they're going to be awful about it, because I'm highly likely to be so full of fangirl energy that I'll need more Korra faster than I can watch another episode. I think I'm good on the Sherlock front, though. I'm pretty sure that the biggest aspect of that fandom is the super-popular Sherlock/Watson ship? That's the thing that's ascended to common knowledge reference status anyway. And from your posts and others here I know that people are hot for Benedict Cumberbatch. If it's really widespread, I think it must be the character getting superimposed on the person, because his features are not the stuff of mass appeal.
My brother expressed annoyance recently at Lucy Liu playing Watson, because "Sherlock's not supposed to have sexual tension with Watson." Okay, first of all, just because she's female doesn't mean that she can only have sexually charged interactions with men. Even the fact that she's Lucy Liu doesn't mean she can only have sexually charged interactions with men. Secondly, he's Sherlock Holmes. In many iterations, he's as sexual as a sea sponge. They don't have to play the sexual tension thing with him either. Thirdly, countless readers have felt that the homosocial interactions between Holmes and Watson slip into homosexual often enough to be noted. In fact, the most recent movie adaptations are really into hinting at this (and it looks like Sherlock may be, too, lol). Some would argue that there has always been some sexual tension between the two, regardless of the lack of boobs between them. In conclusion, shut up. No, seriously, shut up. I've already made all my points and you're not even rebutting them, you just keep saying "it's Lucy Liu" as if nothing she touches can be platonic and making faces about all the other things. Narg. He has flown to DC now and I get to be proud from afar.
I don't mean to keep disappearing! I just keep sliding into this empty mode where all I do is exist and feel ashamed of the way I exist, and I don't let myself do fun things like posting here. This is going to change. I have good news on the therapy front, albeit on a really small scale: I finally got them to give me another referral to the place close enough for me to walk to, so now I just need to make an appointment with some new therapist who will hopefully be good for me. I waited a couple of days for them to call me like they were supposed to, but since they didn't, I'm going to call them tomorrow instead. Maybe I should set a bunch of phone alarms to remind myself. My brother's no longer here to complain that I set too many, after all.
5:30 am, WTF are you doing out here? I told you to go back inside the time stream! Sigh. Clocks are terrible listeners.

Heh, the Sherlock fandom is mad because they ship two men and think that's progressive and having a woman makes it less progressive. Umm, hey fangirls, while you may ship them, the show, you know, in canon, does not. The canon has two straight cis white dudes and the show as a whole sucks on the women and people of color portrayals. All the hinting in the world doesn't equate to them actually being canonically gay. Putting a woman, and a woman of color at that, in a role that could just as easily be a woman, but has always been a man, is actually more progressive! Imagine that!
Also, Lucy Liu actually had it stipulated in her contract that there would be no romance between them, which makes me respect her even more, because it shows how painfully aware she is of women being relegated to love interests on TV shows.
As for the Korra fandom, it's incredibly sexist and racist and the best part is how they actually want to act like they're all progressive because they have their heads so far up their asses. They spew social justice terms while talking about how Korra (the aggressive, brown female lead of a TV show) needs to be taken down notches, become more obedient, all sorts of gross ideas. Please get away from me, you peasants, Korra is my forever girl and you all suck.
To quote:
"I love Korra so much I hate everyone who hates her. Not gomen."
I can't even get into the mind-numbingly stupid things I have to read about Mako purely because people insist on comparing him to the awful ex-boyfriend who dumped them even though Mako is a good person. Whatever, Mako is a rude ***** just like me and I love him. His personality and Korra's combined are essentially me.
Or the over-identifying with Asami at the expense of Korra and what that says. I just really can't with the Korra fandom.

Also, that's great about your therapy news. I hope you get a good one!
I miss seeing you on here, but I completely understand why posting isn't always possible for you.
Oh, and I would so read a blog with that name.
I deleted my tumblr. I just can't deal with the cliquish nature of it. I'm lonely enough as is where being on a site where tons of people are friends and you're essentially crashing the party is more isolation than I need.
