Well, that pair of flats is getting donated.

I knew they rubbed my feet some, but this is the first time I've ever tried to wear them for a whole day. The result? Huge blisters on both pinky toes, and open wounds below both ankle bones. I had to go to the drugstore and buy band aids at lunch so I could make it through the rest of the work day.

I have never had a pair of flats that didn't eat my feet, but this just might be the worst I've had.

Thanks juanab! The NC search function is the pits. You would think it would give you "favorite lolcatz" even if you ask for "favorite lol cats". Grrr. : )

You're welcome. Yeah, the search engine is rather bad.

Started watching World Without End. Not a patch on the brilliant Pilars of the Earth. It's quite disappointed really. I feel like I'm just watching a cheaper, less well acted version of the same story.

I love the book. What channel is this on? I'm rewatching Pillars at the moment.

Seriously, that episode needs to die in a fire.
THANK YOU. My brain failed to see how to express this without giving spoilers, but I really felt like it was just as bad as what I've read in literature from the time of the original Sherlock Holmes stories. EXOTIC MAGIC FLIPPY PEOPLES OH NOES. And the only non-villain was obsessed with teapots. I just...she risks her life for teapots. IDEK. She cared so much about them that by that point in the episode they were all I cared about, too. After we watched the episode, seeing that the half-Chinese friend who was watching with me didn't have any issue with it, I felt all confused about if I was overreacting, though, and didn't want to say anything anymore, which is the kind of thing I thought I was over by now. Especially having had another Jewish friend in high school who didn't even take issue with a gentile friend making a Holocaust joke at me. I hate when the fail conditioning comes out. And I'm sorry I didn't come on here with my usual vitriol, then you'd've had warning!

About the "mysteries"...I actually haven't even been treating them that way, despite the fact that that's supposed to be what the show's about. I remarked to my friend after watching this last one that it's interesting sometimes to see people try to write for/about characters that are much smarter than them. Sometimes you can really see some huge gaps between what they think sounds sort of smart and what will actually impress you with its cleverness. Things get so convoluted and weird. I was vague about my comment so as not to directly insult any part of the show to her, though, just like I said the second episode just wasn't as good as the first instead of admitting I was just sort of waiting for it to end most of the time (the rest of which was spent going "WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE TEAPOTS," seriously). I know there are only three episodes left, but I still don't think I'll be able to keep up this neutral front, knowing more -isms await. It's not like I don't talk freely with her about everything else, it's just...I don't know, she really loves this show and didn't even care about the racism directly insulting her.

...This doesn't make any sense. I know how to be diplomatic about stuff, even problematic things that make me mad. I seem to be making myself scared of saying the wrong things to her because subconsciously I'm scared I'll lose her and have no one around me but family again. No, brain. We are like sisters and we're both too relaxed around each other to have legit fights over stuff that matters, so I'm not going to push her away by being honest about this show she likes. What the hell. Why is this a thing I feel the need to type on a message board to drive home. I have issues coming out of my ears these days.

I had a good therapy appointment, though, and I made two more. Also, I haven't stuck completely to the "one small goal a day" plan my therapist gave me because I guess I'm too impatient and trust myself too little not to want to force myself to stretch, but I've stuck to one small mental goal and one small physical one, and it's only been two days but so far I'm doing well. I shall also give myself credit for not allowing myself to remain unaware of this new and immensely silly issue, but I'm still not happy about it ever having had a chance to exist.

Ha, I read that whole Guardian article completely befuddled as to how the BLATANT!RACISM! wasn't brought up.
I just don't understand how that episode wasn't skewered. Then I saw comments about the sexism, and my reaction is YES, but come on, talk about the even worse racism! Frankly it left a bad taste because it served to illustrate why people of color criticize feminism as not giving a crap about us.

Quote:
I was hoping, maybe with a change of writer, that this week's would be less misogynistic - but no! If anything, the characterisation of the Forensic/Mortuary woman was even worse - a sort of simpiring wimpy idiot who will by-pass rules just because an unpleasant man (who was actively rude to her in the last episode*) noticed her hair? Like hell. The Chinese girl was extraordinarily passive - and since when did Watson abandon damsels in distress to their fate? And, as has been pointed out above - the only strong, active female character was the baddie. What is this - a mid-century Disney film?

But yeah, I want some form of brain bleach to make me forget the attack on my senses that was this steaming pile of **** known as The Blind Banker.
I actually had a "is this the real life" moment once they got to Shan where I wondered if maybe I had it all wrong and this was just satire. It was that over-the-top bad.
Of course it gets worse if you read the script for it!

http://goodbyeomelas.tumblr.com/post...bbcs-the-blind

Everything was bad. Take out the racism and it's still a complete turd of an episode with the plot being sloppy as ****. It's honestly one of the worst things I have ever watched, and I've watched some crap. I about gave up on it before it was over realizing I didn't have any interest in the resolution, but figured I'd suffer through it for the sake of completion.

Do not panic. It's probably no big deal. Breathe. Just breathe.

And I'm glad to hear therapy is going well.
As for your friend, I'm sure you could simply ask her if she didn't think some stuff was problematic in the episode and she might see it if brought up.

Well, the one upside of being sick and on Sudafed? I've lost 8 lbs.! Now I know why pseudoephedrine was in Dexatrim. It's a total appetite killer.

I've been confusing Mindy Cohn with Mindy Kaling.

Hmmm, to steam or bake cake. Can't quite make up my mind.

My shoes!

The red flats are about the most comfortable-feeling flats ever. They are cushioned! Flats with actual arch support!

Also got these, but I thought I could get away with 7.5 and I really couldn't, so back they go!
