I had to wait until I was 25 before I could have my tubes tied. I was married and had 1 child at 21 and the doctor refused to tie them because he said I was too young. So I waited until I was 25, had my tubes tied, discovered I really needed a hysterectomy. I think they might have found stuff a lot sooner if I'd been able to have them tied when I wanted them. That's not really the point though...sometimes you just know. I knew I only wanted one child and I have never regretted it or changed my mind.

That's what I was told too
That would be me. I knew from the age of 14 that I didn't want to have biological kids, and it's not because I am selfish but there are tonnes of kids out there who could use a good home and strong values and I do believe that I have that can share with someone truly deserving. Plus the planet is already overpopulated, why add one more?
Annnnnddddd..... Last Sat/Sun was the first time I ever seriously looked at a man and said "I would carry his child," but of course I was talking about JGL and that sure as hell ain't gonna happen. TBH I have become a bit disillusioned by the idea of love and I really doubt that it will happen so I don't think there is much to lose by my having my tubes tied.

I was under the impression that it was a general rule, but apparently not. I've never asked myself so that is interesting to know.
And adoption is a very admirable choice, kayb. For all the reasons you listed and more.

I slept so much today.
I'm glad my eye doc fit me in today.
I'm glad I have enough time off available to take a few days off with pay.

Beautiful, CIBC.
------------------
I don't dislike beans, but, like rice, I resented eating them every damn day of my life. It didn't make me feel poor, just bored. I refused to cook it myself for years after leaving home.

Kaybaby, I love ya even more. I know you'd be a wonderful mama to an adopted child. I'd say adopt me but you're so old and Rou has already said she'd adopt me....Me? I am busy adopted stray cats!!

You aren't nearly as elderly as I am. And I am only 5'1" so I can't see over the line. I guess I'll just have to go under the fence.

I get that (though I adore rice and beans miss them terribly when I haven't had them, and really, rice and I are OTP), but I can't help feeling that it's culturally myopic to consider certain foods the type you eat because of poverty. Beans are widely consumed by a variety of cultures and they'd never be seen as something to eat because you're poor. Not to mention people in cultures that are vegetarian for religious reasons and not because it's trendy or because they're trying to make a statement, but because vegetarianism is just a natural way of life; they would never consider beans something to eat grudgingly because there's no money. On the flipside, foods that are unknown and labeled "exotic" (or worse, "fancy") can be rather commonplace. Like I get the point, but bok choy is consumed regularly by a huge part of the world's population. It may be ecpensive if you go to Whole Foods for it, but it's pretty much dirt-cheap anywhere people who eat it regularly live.

Love it.
In other news, my quickly depleting phone battery is killing me.
