I know a person who always said she's wanted to be a lawyer since she was 4-years-old. She got into law school right after her undergrad work, and would miss class at least once a week, always for things like "My boyfriend's sick and I need to take care of him". It didn't seem like she was taking it very seriously for a lifelong dream.

She just failed the Bar for the fourth time, and has pretty much gone into hiding, deleted her Facebook, isn't taking calls from anybody.

I hate to see anybody like that, but I can't help but remember how lightly she took law school.

Believe me, sometimes the desire to go out to the dining room and slap people is overwhelming.
Like the number of times they ask for something to be cut up for them into small pieces even though they have knives and forks. Or "extra-chopped" salads like they're toothless. Or an order of our roast chicken, but boneless and skinless. Or the orders for something off the lunch menu at dinner time because "that's what [they] feel like eating".

Saria, would you mind sharing a recipe for vanilla bean sweet potato pie? We a sweet potato pie every year for the holidays. This would be a nice tweak. TIA

Sometimes, it feels like the only guys to choose from in Pittsburgh are engineers. Or engineering students.

I don't have a recipe, but you could use a typical recipe and adapt the flavorings.
Sweet Potato Pie Recipe | Leite's Culinaria

The idea comes from a dessert at a place I worked that included a vanilla bean sweet potato purée as one of the components.
I would steam or bake whole unpeeled sweet potatoes then scoop out and purée with some vanilla bean, salt, and maple syrup to taste then add some cream and eggs to make the custard. You need a good blender to get it silky smooth since you want to blend just the potatoes without the other ingredients so as not to incorporate air into the custard.
Pour into a baked tart shell (made similarly as the one linked to in that recipe, actually, though with part of the flour switched out for oat flour and less crust overall since you don't need as much for a tart as a pie) and bake until just set.
And no flour in the filling, because flour in baked custards is just uncalled for 99% of the time.

Scrills, I believe it is normal. I dreamt about my dad shortly after he died. My sister and daughter say that they saw him. I like to think it is their way of letting the ones who are living know that they are ok.

I have become obsessed with coloured and patterned pants. I need all styles and all colors. On my body. Now.

Jbrand. You own me. Because of you I can't leave my job. I get too good of a discount. Once you buy 300$ pants for 80 you dont go back.

You're welcome. Oh, and check this one out for a different take:

Which reminds me that I forgot to list the small knobs of softened butter I like to add the sweet potato when pureeing.

I NEVER call myself a vegetarian because I am not one (because I eat fish!) however...wow, people are dumb.

I had this exchange once:

Me: I'm not a vegetarian...I eat fish, but I don't eat pork or beef or poultry.

Them: So you're vegan?

WHAT DO THEY THINK VEGAN MEANS?
I hate when my dad tells people I'm vegetarian. i'm like, "hold on old man! do you know what a vegetarian is? I still eat bird"

If you can find a socially capable one, you're golden.

I was an engineer myself. I know that there are a lot of odd ones out there.

I still can't get over how without fail nobody takes the stairs in this place. It doesn't matter how incredibly crowded and how long the line for the escalator, nobody will take the stairs next to the escalator. People, it freaks me out! I'll be the lone person taking the short flight of stairs instead of forming a line for the escalator. Like WHY MURRRTURTLES, WHY?!
Seriously, what is this strange phenomenon?

I had a craving for some pistachio macaroons (one of the few really sweet things that I can abide). I saw that local tourist trap Mike's Pastry miraculously had no line, and since I've read that the pistachio macaroons are one of the few worthwhile things, I thought I'd try them instead of Modern's (which I had and liked some time ago). They're alright, but I think Modern's taste more of pistachio and have less of an alarming green shade.
While I was in there, I saw something that made me shudder --- strawberry cannoli. Why does this exist? It's got a terrifying pink color, the cream dropping out the ends. Fake color, no doubt fake strawberry flavor (as I could discern not a single actual strawberry), why? WHY?
Also, I think all cannoli around here is meh. I had Modern's and Maria's, both of which people laud as the best around. Both too sweet. I think I only like cannoli from certain pastry chefs or when I make it. Italian pastries suffer from sugar overload far too often, hence why French patisserie is king (though especially in the hands of Japanese patissiers).

I'm getting really antsy that I still haven't been credited for the return of the two jackets I sent back. I figure it's mostly the hurricane causing delay, but my brain comes up with these scenarios where the package gets lost or destroyed along the way and I end up paying for four instead of two jackets.
