Even my work colleagues husband thinks I'm very cynical.

Hmmm. I kind of feel bad now.

This article! Ugh, it's just so beautiful and on point even being a few years old. I want to just quote all of it!

Shakesville: The Terrible Bargain We Have Regretfully Struck

And the girlfriend who said her boyfriend says so...yeah, that's pretty much par for the course for the women who get with and stay with such men. They keep chuggin' that KoolAid.

That swim suit looks adorable on you and now I want one just like it! I had to remind myself that I won't be going to the beach anytime soon.

I went and found the Livejournal and the blogger site she switched to between the first and second books. Here's her master post for them: Dragon Quill: Master Post I also clicked on the first HG post to reread. I'd forgotten that the blogger had gotten to "**** these books kill all the mains dead with a sledgehammer and make the author watch" levels of annoyance by way of "I just know this is going to suck" rather than just "I am wary of this." Heh. All teh lulz at her pedantic frustration at the research fail, because I relate to this genre of frustration with things.

I actually get annoyed sometimes by having to add in italics but generally feel compelled to do it because now I've used them consistently enough that I've established a convention and heaven forbid I go against self-made convention on an anonymous forum. I don't actually see them as necessary in such an informal context, I just have issues.
OMG, LOOK!!

...It's a siggie.
Kat, you don't strike me as "very cynical" from your posts here. If you act the same in person as you do on here, this quote from Jane on Daria may apply:

When they say, "You're always unhappy, Daria," what they mean is, "You think, Daria. I can tell because you don't smile. Now this guy died and it makes me think and that hurts my little head and makes me stop smiling. So tell me how you cope with thinking all the time, Daria, until I can get back to my normal vegetable state."
OMG, LOOK!!

...It's a siggie.
I bought a load of plants the other day and they're still sat in a box in the carport because it's too hot for me to go out and put them in the garden. And if I do they'll probably all just die in the heat.

I hate summer. Oh, that's right, it's not summer yet. Sigh.

I actually found the blog after you alluded to it, because if there is a new method of procrastination, I will find it!
I thought she had some good points, but after a while I found her nitpicking insufferable. I also found her thoughts on certain other (non-HG) things to be laughably predictable in their criticism.

Thank you, and I will provide plenty of pictures so you can beach vicariously. I will not be meeting kayb after all, but that just means I can look forward to it when I'm not on an already awesome vacation.

That Shakesville article just summed up so much of the frustration I've had to deal with at jobs, were men insisted on treating me as some irrational woman for noticing the clear inequality that they refuse to and are incapable of seeing because to see it they'd have to accept too many unfavorable things about themselves. To read someone understand it so thoroughly and put it so eloquently, just feels like a release. Ugh, FEELS!!!

When people act as if social justice is this blight and taken too far, it's because they don't realize how different the world is offline. Post like that guy's, convinced that Romney and Ryan are simply successful hard-working men (like I can't even type that without making a face) and that other people having more rights is somehow taking away from their rights, are things a good amount of people actually believe. The internet just allows people to voice this without having to worry about being called out in person. They just keep quiet (because they're so oppressed) in real life.

She is indeed reeeeeeaaaalllly into nitpicking. I probably should have warned you. I didn't think to due to being far easier than the average person to string along with the promise of intermittent factoids, lol. Not enough that that would keep me reading something I'd have to wait for, but if it's readily available procrastination fodder that also offers schadenfreude after the blogger's incessant nitpicking starts to wear away at her own patience? Yeah, in that case, I'll read post after nitpicky post just to get to another one where I learn something like "if a berry has a flowery thing on the end of it like blueberries do, you can eat it" and go "ZOMG REALLY?! I AM CONVINCED THIS INFORMATION IS OF INTRINSIC VALUE TO MY LIFE!!!"

Like I became convinced that I had to know all about goat breeding soon after clicking on that post and being reminded of Prim's milk goat and now I know why you shouldn't mate them more than once a year and that they have a 305-day lactation cycle and their mating habits are rather gross and they don't really eat everything but rather just taste it and are pickier about what they actually consume and WOMAN LOOK AT THE TIME WHY YOU DO THIS UGGGGHHHHHHHH. THIS IS NOT USEFUL YOU DON'T HAVE A KATNISS TO GIVE YOU A GOAT.

I'm sorry to hear that kayb won't be coming with you but glad that it won't put a damper on your plans. And yaaaayyy, pics of those gorgeous beaches you've raved about!

That article. I thought I was done when I posted the .gif but instead I must elaborate on my feels because it really encapsulated all of my feelings about being my father's daughter and brother's sister and being faced with their views on women. This is why my dad walking into a room automatically puts me on emotional guard - which if anyone was going to comment is not any sort of big dramatic feeling - and all those feelings I've had of needing to have more of a relationship with my brother again have always been doomed to remain unfulfilled because the price for successful extended interactions with him is too high. Not looking forward to him being home for a whole month starting on the 1st, which is an awful thing that I can only say on this thread. I want to hear about what it was like over in DC on election night and find out how shaggy his hair got before he cut it (if he cut it) but I don't want to share a house with him all day because we're just bound to end up being two ships that pass and occasionally battle each other in the night. And the aggressor ship will also not be able to help judging my rickety old ship with its ramshackle crew of sleep-deprived indigents.

Got "What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor?" in my head now. ...All the punishments happen "early in the morning." Stop reminding me, song! Or I'll...make you dance with the captain's daughter! I never got that verse of the version I've heard. Like, you're also gonna shave his chin with a rusty razor and stuff sooo...oh, okay, the Wikipedia suggests that this was a cleaned-up-for-children version I heard as a kid (makes sense) and they really wanted to throw him in bed with her, which is very disturbing but does make sense because you can see him sobering up running like hell from the furious captain. Poor scarred captain's daughter. Who may also incite a "GET BACK" reaction from the captain by just sharing a dance with a sailor considering the attitudes of the time, so it's funny that my childbrain interpretation of the line, which has stuck around until now, was basically "She can't be that unpleasant to dance with..."

Why. Sleep. GOLDFISH. IDK I was saying words and it was there. It may be a clownfish, though, because its name is Nemo. Going now.

...Passion Parties. I have been to one that involved several batches of daiquiris and margaritas. I ended up spending $200 on 3 things.

Ugh, I cannot with people on this short commute into Boston. Get to the station and there's these three guys engaging what is a drunk and/or mentally unstable man on the stairs for some reason. Get through and said man is following me. He's right on me, and I'm obviously unnerved. Well, he was trying to get through on my fare, so that was why.
I end up in the same car as the three guys and later on it seems this guy made his into the car and started randomly talking to three people sitting across from him. One of the three guys says to his friends "shut up, monkey, back to the zoo with you" in Spanish. The man being black. He proceeds to talk about how they can drop him off at some zoo with the lions, that hopefully won't get indigestion.
WTF I cannot. I hate everyone.

I do not believe this. My package got delivered yesterday, but for some reason, it once again got taken into the building manager's office. And of course there is nobody there past five o'clock. And now it's Saturday and there is nobody here. So this means I absolutely won't be able to take something I ordered in anticipation of my trip with me because I have to leave for the DR Monday morning. JFC you cannot keep packages for a whole ****ing weekend!
What if you're keeping something that is time-sensitive? Like really, what the actual ****?!
Ugh, so ****ing annoyed right now.
Wow, has it really come to this? I order something on Amazon and get the option to share my purchase on Facebook or Twitter!?! Seriously, wtf?

I don't buy 'things' for others anyway. I give them money/gift cards so they can get what they want or need, and i normally print pictures from family gatherings, for my siblings and mom, and put them in albums to go along with it.

I keep threatening to donate to charities in everyones name but that doesn't go over well with the children.

So ****ing glad I stayed an extra two days here so I could wait for a package I wanted in time for my vacation that I now won't see until December 6.
I would like to know how much my brother and his wife spend on clothing for my younger nephews, who have the medical condition that makes them grow at a rapid rate. I could by clothes for the others, when they were young, but not these two. Their clothing and shoe size changes every other week, literally, but my sister in law insists on keeping them in top brand clothing. She has not worked in 12 years, and I sincerely don't know how they afford the lifestyle she insists on. She will do away with speech and physical therapy for the child who needs it, etc., before she will let go of an 'image' or go back to work.

She throughly perplexes me.
