Knot Today? 2-4 washes. I miss the big jugs they used to have.

ETA. The jug is back.

^ If only they happened more often!

I even got up early and spent the best part of two hours planting in the garden (shrubs and bedding plants now wilting in the heat as predicted).

So yes, it was a productive day. Yay me!

Thanks so much for the good wishes!

Wheeee, I met up with my friends for dinner at Biang! and it was awesome. So much fun! Great food! One of my friends did have issues with the spice level, but she still enjoyed it and said she had fun because she tried food that was so unfamiliar to her (she doesn't eat much Chinese, and especially from the Xi'an region), and that challenged her spice tolerance.
Here are pics!

Attachment 27530

We have beef stomach skewers with sesame paste and Sichuan peppercorns, spicy cumin chicken heart skewers, and cold mung bean jelly with chili oil and bean paste.

Attachment 27531

Drinks! Watermelon soju and yogurt soju. They ran out of yogurt thanks to us, so we couldn't order the third round.
Love that yogurt soju. Light and refreshing, slightly sweet, fizzy, delicious!

Attachment 27532

Their famous lamb "burgers" --- cumin lamb in toasted mantou.
Stir-fried water spinach. So good --- crisp, garlicky, and a delicious kick of black vinegar.
Mantou with homemade spicy pork sausage and sunny-side up quail eggs. I loved this so much. The sausage was just a little spicy, a little sweet, and delicious when mixed with the creamy yolk. Like the very best breakfast sandwich you could get.
The famous lamb face salad: various bits of a lamb's head lin a fiery version of their signature sauce.

Quote:
The famous sauce of Xian Famous Foods. It contains, though in amounts that I can only hope to approximate, never replicate: cumin, star anise, cinnamon, roasted chili oil, soy sauce, black vinegar, probably sugar. Maybe, a little spoonful of tahini, for a certain roasted depth of flavor.
The salad contains celery, bean sprouts, and cucumbers, along with green chilies.

Round 3:
Attachment 27534

Spicy and sour pork belly with hand-ripped noodles. So ****ing good. Their noodles are so popular for a reason --- they're simply fantastic. So much flavor. My friend ordered a bowl of rice (which they have as a side, but not on any menu item since rice isn't all that prevalent in this region of China compared to noodles) to sop up the leftover sauce and diced up pork belly.

Stewed oxtail: tender soy and tea stewed oxtail. My spice-averse friend got these since they were mild and she was suffering from the heat of the lamb face salad

Cumin-spiced roast quail with tiger vegetables. So good. The quail was spicy and the tiger veg (celery, cucumber, green peppers, cilantro, scallions, bean sprouts dressed with sesame oil) was crunchy and refreshing and tempered the heat.

Spicy and sour lamb dumplings in broth. Juicy, springy dumplings in a delicious broth. Another favorite with our friend who was having spice issues. So good!

Yeah, truthfully I thought 3 washes tops, but since I've never used it I hoped maybe I could get 4.
There was no jug, but since it's my first time trying it and I've got a bunch of CJ coming, I didn't sweat it.

I have no idea what most of that is but love reading about and seeing pics of all of it! And I would like to try it all.
Especially the watermelon drink and the thing with the quail eggs on top.
And yes, the lamb face salad made me laugh. I'm going to tell my sister that's what I'm making her for lunch sometime. : )

If you're not real knotty, you may get more. I think low-po is less knotty.

I use a follow-up richer conditioner if I need it, but I use a lot of KT for tangles. I was teaching my SIL how to detangle her daughter's hair over the holiday weekend. It took a third if a bottle for her straight hair. It was so knotty that she had two little locs that I had to cut out.

Jeepy, you would have really enjoyed this dinner. We had a grand time, and everything was delicious. The chicken hearts were so tender and spicy. Great flavor! And the tripe was ultra-tender and I loved the sauce.
The lamb face salad is one of their three most popular dishes. Next time I want the lamb spine, which is braised in a five spice broth.
The watermelon soju was good, but the yogurt soju was even better!
I can't wait to go back when it's warmer to eat some of their very popular cold noodles.

Oh, and we got delicious hot bubble tea afterward for dessert.
My friends refused to let me pay for anything because this was their early birthday treat for me. I'll get them back next time.

We told our one suffering friend that next time we do Chinese we're getting Cantonese to go easy on her tastebuds.

I liked the pumpkin one better. I'll still buy this one, though. Probably this week since first year seasonal items are notorious for going away fairly quickly.

So my mom asks me how many of us met up. I said four. I'm still side-eyeing her response of "¡Cuatro mujeres sin macho!". What the ever-loving ****, mom? No, really, what the hell was the point of that comment?

Holy ****, it's not even 7 AM and there was this guy asking us if this was the right flight, and the moment he opened his mouth, it was like second-hand inebriation this dude is so smashed. I think he might have been detained, because he was right behind us and now there is nary a sight of him.

The flight attendant was guiding him and said, "don't talk a lot, because I can smell the alcohol; I don't care, but other people do".
I was sweating bullets for a bit when he was looking for his seat.

Clearly, you're all lesbians. Don't even try denying it, the cats out of the bag.

Um, no. I do not believe I won $29,000 from a Walmart in WNC, courtesy of a call from Jamaica. What? Good thing I help report scams for a living.

If you just give me your personal information... Hahahahahaha.

I am probably being irrational but since this is a Say it I dare you thread I am just going to go ahead and let 'er rip:

Mom, I am so effing mad at you right now I could spit. What the eff was going through your head when you told my 8 year old to go in my bedroom to look for the pair of my shoes she wanted to play with when you knew all the kids Christmas presents were hidden in my closet? YOU DON"T EFFING THINK! It's a good thing I thought up something to say to her when she asked me why everything on her Christmas list was in the closet. I wish you would just move to Florida or something and leave me the heck alone because I have a lot of anger towards you and I don't care enough to talk about it. I have told you that our bedroom is off limits because my synthroid is in there and we just don't want the kids in our room unless we are in there with them. You know this and instead of saying "No. Mom will get them for you when she is home." YOu tell her "Go and find them in your mother's room. I don't know where they are." I wish my husband could get transferred to somewhere you could only get to by plane. I know that you only insist on spending the holidays with me because my brother will not put up with your **** at all and that if he did, you would cast me and my family aside like a bad habit. I fight every day not to be you. Not to mother like you. Take a vacation for Christmas so I don't have to deal with you. Thank you. And if you aren't going to do that then back off until then so I can calm down and mentally prepare for you to be here for a few days.

Ha! My brain shot hundreds of years into the past when I read that. Clearly, Saria and her friends' scandalous choice to go out with no male escort makes them all the most brazen of harlots! Next thing you know, they'll be showing their ankles in public.

SARIA ALL THAT FOOD OMG. I am drooling over those pics and your descriptions. SO JELLIS. And you must be in the air by now, but you won't have landed yet so I can still wish you a nice flight. I'm so glad you're finally getting your vacation! And your warmth, with a side of clear blue water at beautiful beaches. Have we mentioned how we'll all be living vicariously through the pictures you post?

Kat, it's now sounding like he was going for a comment on your sarcastic sense of humor and failed. Don't hate on yourself, everybody loves snark! Also, as you are not window dressing required to constantly display a beatific smile to suit the tastes of random strangers, it was very rude of that person to randomly tell you to "cheer up." They had no way of knowing how you were feeling! Clearly, since they got it wrong. People who think they have the right to demand emotions from other people are the ones with the problem.
