I miss fresh spiced cider. Some of the ciders in packets are pretty good though nothing compared to what you can get in cooler climates. However, so many are just large amounts of sugar and small amounts of flavor. Ick.

You should have gone anyway! I would have told my family to have fun without me.


wild_sasparilla - Good for you for seeing what's up and making the appointments. It's hard and sometimes you can't control falling into a rut, but doing something to help yourself is a great step. I hope you have a better year this year!

It was a lovely day overall, but we had like half of the usual amount of people at our house tonight! It made me sad. I love having a house crammed full of people! We had lots of people say that they'd be there, but never showed up! Boo.

Ah well. I still got to hang out with family that I don't get to see often enough!

However, towards the end of the night, my young cousin puked all over our dining room floor... And shortly thereafter, one of my aunts fled the house, apparently coming down with something as well! And at least two other cousins were starting to look sick by the time they left. This does not bode well for me. >_>

my sister and i are sitting here watching some show on Sir Richard Branson and drinking brandy... not that we NEED any more alcohol at this point!



my cousins were here along with my aunt and uncle, so mom was a little better behaved for some of the time.

I told my aunt I was having a new play premiere in a few weeks.

Her exact response...without a hint of, "Congratulations!" "That is terrific!" "I'm excited for you!"

This wasn't said in a helpful "I just want you to get coverage and an agent and success because I think you're SO talented..."

But in a, "You're yet to make any money or find fame from writing, so I don't even know why you bother" way.

She said:

"Is this one actually going to DO anything for you, though? You had that one in the Village that was supposed to be such a big deal, and nobody even noticed it. So is this one going to get any kind of a reaction?"

Two of my much-younger (college and high-school aged cousins) were sitting right there when she said it. (They're not her children.) They both looked at me afterwards and said, "WTF? What kind of a reaction was that?"

At least I know that if I ever feel the need to truly impress these people, I can just get knocked-up by some random guy.

Unfortunately, only one of the coats I had thought of getting my claws on is not on the list.

It's the same aunt who made the collage of everyone's wedding photos...photos of each couple and group shots of "all the girls" at each wedding. She cut me out of every photo I was in in the group shots, because I was the only one who wasn't married. When I called her on it, she denied it, and then I kept pointing to the pictures going, "I KNOW I WAS IN THAT ONE! YOU CAN SEE MY HAIR!"

She got all huffy and went, "FINE. FINE. I'll make a collage of the ONLY unmarried women in the family and it will just be me, your mother and you."

LOVELY. Put me in the same category as widows in their 60's. Seriously. Super.

The only thing they value is making tons of money and snagging a husband. Anything other than that...total waste of time and insignificant.

I once told my mother that I feel like other people just have to hear that I've WRITTEN a play, let alone had many performed, and they are SO impressed and I wish my family could really get how much of an achievement that is.

My mother responded with, "They only ACT impressed because they hear things like 'had a play performed in New York City' and assume that you must have made a lot of money. If they knew you've barely made a dime, they wouldn't be impressed at all."

not only do they not understand you, they are jealous at the same time. They hang onto and throw around the marriage thing because it's the one "achievement" they can claim. Big deal, anyone can get married, whether it's a success or not. If they mention that and money, then they think they've brought you down a notch, closer to their level. Please never let them do that!
