on December 31st every year, The New York Times publishes a list of notable people around the world who have died in the year past. they call the feature The Lives They Lived. the list doesn't just cover the very famous; sometimes obscure scientists who might have years ago made a discovery that has a lasting impact on humanity is included and the reader can say a silent 'thank you' to them for all they did.
this year, this paragraph is the introduction to that section of the newspaper/website:
"This issue is meant to be a celebration of life, not an expression of grief. But since the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., grief has been unavoidable. Our wish for those who knew and loved the 20 children and 6 adults killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School is that they are held up by those around them until the day comes when they might feel something other than terrible loss. And our wish for the rest of us is that we all might help turn despair into hope."

I'm going to have a cup of tea and go to bed. A friend of mine is pissed off at me and has decided that they're not going to answer their phone. Instead of staying up all night and agonising (like I do), I think I'm just going to try and sleep and hope for the best.

I have always detested New Years Eve. Which is why my idea of a good one is sitting on the couch in my jammie pants, drinking rum n coke, eating edamame, reading a cookbook, and watching Bridemaids. I'm enjoying it!

NYE makes me realize my hermit like tendencies even more than the rest of the year. 
Mr. Spring took one for the anti-social team and went across the street to be sociable for a little while since they were nice enough to invite us over. Thank goodness I made something last night to take over so he didn't go empty handed, plus he had a beer in hand and one in each jacket pocket.

Watching Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara (sp) looks so different.
This has however led to my searching PhD programmes in Scandinavia.....and that, ladies, is how bad choices get made.
