Kat, I know the feeling and I'm sending (((hugs)))) and melatonin your way.

I think the most important thing to remember about the Bechdel test is that the like 0.001% of movies that pass the test have in no way proven that they treat women well. Just because two women have a conversation at some point that is not about a man does not mean the movie won't be misogynistic as HELL. It just means that the movie, in that brief moment, doesn't entirely define its women via their relationships to men - and it's a valuable reminder that this isn't just a problem with movies marketed mostly to men. The vast majority of rom coms, which are marketed pretty much exclusively to women, make no effort to give their leading ladies any identity beyond their relationships with men and a few "lovable quirks."

Cute snow boots! I want some! But I still live in SoCal and have yet to even get any use out of the houndstooth rain boots I got at Target a few years ago and rain DOES sometimes happen here. Snow? Below-freezing temperatures? HA. I have absolutely zero use for snow boots but I waaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnntttttttt theeeeeeeeeeemmmmmmmmm.

It was 38 this morning.

Does that qualify for snow boot weather?

I'm tryin'.

I'm sorry, Hropkey. That happened in my school, years ago, I knew her in passing, too. More recently, it happened at my daughter's school. She didn't know him well, either, but it still effects you. Maybe your school will make councilors available, if you want to talk to one of them.

nynaeve, I am so sorry that your family is going through this. I don't know what denomination your church is, or if it is independent. I believe in our church, there is a protocol for terminations, and that it's not just up to the pastor to make a sudden decision like that. In fact I am on the church council and know it would take a lot more than the one of the pastors making a decision. There is definitely a protocol for sending off an employee who is leaving, whatever the reason. We just did so for the woman who has been running the nursery for the past several years.

What I'm getting at is: if the church is part of a denomination, your BIL may want to talk to some one higher up, (in the synod, diocese, etc) to get a better idea of what has happened. The church body may want to know, as well. There is a big part of me that just doesn't want him to walk away without knowing what preceded the termination and informing them of his experience.

If this isn't the case, or it just wouldn't work for your BIL and his family, I understand, please just ignore me.

Our church is Assemblies of God. One of my good friends is on the advisory council, and she said that the bylaws are written in such a way that staffing decisions are in the purview of the pastor unless it involves financial stuff like raises. I know that the A/G has some sort of regional council in place, too, but I don't know what kind of authority they have in individual church matters.

I see. I have no experience with A/G. Wishing your family some resolution in peace in this matter.

Yeah, based on my understanding, each AG church is its own sovereign entity and makes its own decisions on matters like these - the regional boards and the like really have no say in the matter.

does anyone else get random calls from people??

Like a couple of months ago, I got a phone call from a stranger asking for someone I can't remember the name let's just say A. And I said no you have the wrong number etc. After that they would call like 3x a day. Eventually my friend answered and said "no you have the wrong number so why do you keep calling because this is not A's number"

they stopped after that

Then once I received a text asking if my phone number was a real number. I didn't answer because again these are numbers from my area code where I'm from and I got scared and assumed it was the creepy person who had a crush on me not moving on with his life. See?? I can't escape him mentally, he has me trapped with his creepiness.

Today my mom keeps getting calls from someone asking for sylvia, they sound wasted, and kept insisting this is the number for sylvia. Like argued with her, that Sylvia was there.

Wtf.

Please tell me this happens to other people.

I'm laughing so hard because this was posted on my FB earlier today and of course I said it's the most accurate thing ever because well, who could deny it? I'm glad you posted it here so I didn't have to.

My friend says she will show me a FB pic of what "cute guy" who might want to work at Seaport looks like. The tension is palpable, y'all.

I like collard greens in protein shakes. Or any of the ways Saria listed. I just really like them. Which is apparently weird for a Jewish girl who didn't have them until adulthood....

Mine didn't even last one winter. I miss my houndstooth boots! I actually made a friend over them.

I've never had Target boots last that long for me - they end up splitting in the seams. I'm going to end up having to spend more for rubber boots which stay together... Grrr, the Target ones are the cutest!
