My mom deserves an Oscar for how she has somehow made my cousin's death all about her.

She didn't come home for the funeral because she was "just up here."

She also brought-up how the two brother-in-laws of the young man who just DIED didn't come to my father's funeral 14 years ago because they had a hockey game to go to and so she's not going to feel guilty about not going to HIS funeral. (Okay, my deceased cousin wasn't even a member of our family at that point?)

I talked to her after the funeral on Saturday and was bawling and saying how sad I was and that it was the saddest funeral I had ever gone to.

My mother asked me if anybody asked about her.

Yes, yes. Out of the 600 people there, you were noticed. You're all that matters to everybody!

She then thanked me for going "for her".

I told her, "I didn't go for you. I went because it was my COUSIN'S FUNERAL."

I just spoke to my sister and she said she hasn't spoken to my mom in a week, and she thinks it's because my mother knows we're a little surprised she didn't come home for the funeral. We both agreed she's going to twist things around and that she only ever does things when they are convenient for her.

Ugh. Seriously. UGH!

Dude you've told me this story so many times. Next time I'm going to beat you to the punch and tell the story like it's my own.

3D printed objects have a weird, DNA-strand look to them.

They make me a little nervous.

I think I fail at rice because whenever I make it a lot always sticks to the bottom of the pot. (Unless that's normal???)

Rice sticking to the bottom of the pot is only considered bad by cultures that don't consume that much rice.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out how one would make rice without having any stick to the pot.

More water (ie how Americans and the Europeans do it, with that 2:1 ratio). Plus they basically boil rice in that they cover when simmering versus covering when water has mostly evaporated and trapping the steam.

I either a) am really sick or b) was unknowingly bitten by a walker.

My bones feel like glass (I haven't worked out using them , I did go spinning but I mean like all over my bones feel like glass, No I've been spinning before and this class I barely sweated! OMG maybe I am sick because I sweat so easily; halfway through the class I was like "why am I the one person NOT sweating, I'm usually the only one sweating anywhere) I can't stop shivering. waaaah

Heck, even the Spanish expect a good paella to have a layer of crispy rice on the bottom.

Why didn't anyone tell me Twilight was so badly acted?

Minxy, these are the biscuits I make. From Fannie Farmer and I do the drop ones. Really good plain, with raisins or cheese!

Minxy, if you don't care if it's a drop biscuit or not I also have a recipe that I really like that I'd share if you want.

Oh. That's good to know. I think my mom must use the 2:1 ratio because when she makes rice it doesn't stick. I like my rice better though.

Man... Why haven't any of my classes been cancelled yet this semester? I just need a little break! I've been in school for like a WHOLE MONTH MINUS WEEKENDS AND MLK DAY!

I mean, I'm not saying I want one of my professors to get the flu or anything... But a quick 24-hour cold should do the trick.

Dear Lard, someone help me. Mr. Spring has figured out how to listen to the police/fire band on his HAM radio.

HE DOES THIS WHILE THE TV IS ON. I can't take all this noise.

You know, this really sums up my issues with the concept of slutwalks:

Quote:
- many women of color have been hypersexualized and treated as sex objects their entire lives, reclaiming the word ‘slut’ is not empowering to all of us, it’s more or less the same ****

- ofc everyone has a choice in whether or not they want to reclaim the slur, but mass feminist movements must be representative of ALL women. slutwalks are advertised as liberation for all women but don’t take into account the women who don’t want to reclaim the slur.

- an action that ultimately serves the interests of sexist men does not become empowering simply bc it is the woman’s choice. while every choice a women makes must not be a political statement, bc we are humans with emotions and preferences, the choices which are not political statements should not be framed as such

men watching slutwalks often believe that they are for them, many are surprised to find that they are feminist movements at all. women are already stripped naked in full view regularly for the pleasure of men, even if it is their choice in this scenario, it is not a subversive choice, it is nothing new, and it is not perceived as such. they are fully entitled to do is if that is what they enjoy, but it should be considered a progressive or feminist action when it is not breaking down any barriers

men certainly don’t rethink their sexism after watching a slutwalk. ofc the women’s intention may not be to strip for the pleasure of men, but that is how it is perceived. a movement that truly allowed women to reclaim their sexuality would be once in which they denied men the pleasure of seeing them naked until they’ve shown some respect

basically, your movement should not make your oppressor feel validated and do exactly what they hoped for in the first place
Quote:
ohhhh that actually reminds me of something i forgot to mention! the other thing about slut walks is that they validate the existence of a ‘slut’, as if it is something that actually exists
instead of saying, men need to stop calling me a slut for ****ing people bc the word slut carries negative connotations for **** that is really natural and harmless, girls start saying ‘i’m a slut and i’m PROUD’
i just feel that this doesn’t accomplish much then men will be like, yeah u dirty slut lol, and this makes ‘sluts’ out to be a real thing as opposed to a sexist concept made out to shame women who get horny
