Yes. Yes, I did have pie for breakfast. Now, back away from the rest of it so I can also have it for dessert later.

Ugh, I just want to wear my rain boots, but it freaking keeps snowing instead, and I want my feet as warm as possible then. The weather has been awesome lately (for winter), but I saw the forecast and I wanna cry. Back down to as low as 9 degrees again. Why?!!!!

Sexual assault centres in US colleges have said that more women are reporting anal rape, which Dines attributes directly to the normalisation of such practices in pornography. “The more porn sexualises violence against women, the more it normalises and legitimises sexually abusive behaviour. Men learn about sex from porn, and in porn nothing is too painful or degrading for women.”

Dines also says that what she calls “childified porn” has significantly increased in popularity in recent years, with almost 14m internet searches for “teen sex” in 2006, an increase of more than 60% since 2004. There are legal sites that feature hardcore images of extremely young‐looking women being penetrated by older men, with disclaimers stating all the models are 18 and over.

Dines is clear that regular exposure to such material has an effect of breaking down the taboo about having sex with children. She recently interviewed a number of men in prison who had committed rape against children. All were habitual users of child pornography. “What they said to me was they got bored with ‘regular’ porn and wanted something fresh. They were horrified at the idea of sex with a pre*****cent child initially but within six months they had all raped a child.
Quote:
When someone works for less pay than she can live on—when, for example, she goes hungry so that you can eat more cheaply and conveniently—then she has made a great sacrifice for you, she has made you a gift of some part of her abilities, her health, and her life. The “working poor,” as they are approvingly termed, are in fact the major philanthropists of our society. They neglect their own children so that the children of others will be cared for; they live in substandard housing so that other homes will be shiny and perfect; they endure privation so that inflation will be low and stock prices high. To be a member of the working poor is to be an anonymous donor, a nameless benefactor, to everyone else.
Quote:
The buzz word in popular feminism today is empowerment. When I became a feminist many years ago, the word we used was liberation. Unlike empowerment, liberation is a collective concept which means that even if my life is all rosy and “empowered,” it doesn’t mean **** for those women who are doing low paid jobs while trying to raise families. In fact, there is a very good chance that elite women’s empowerment is built on the backs of other women whose exploited labor provides the goods and services that enable a good career and a comfortable lifestyle. The low pay of nannies, cooks, cleaners, sweat shop workers, and day care providers means that wealthier women are freed up to make a salary that no doubt does feel empowering.

LA, I had chocolate for breakfast.

I have this sneaking suspicion that work tonight is going to suck... Because it sounds like the mid-shift person is leaving at 3:30 instead of the usual 6:30. I get there at 3:30. Hahahahaha. Awesome. By myself the whole night. I love it.

Haha. I'm thankful I don't have to go anywhere near the grocery store today. I'm also hoping it will kill off whatever is making my allergies go haywire.

So, they sorta got our work email up, but all our calendars, folders, and saved emails are still missing. This is day 4, people. 4 days to restore a backup. What are they using, a 9600 bps modem? FFS!

Unfortunately, I don't think it will kill off whatever is making everyone's allergies go beserk.

Polly, please come out from under the bed. Your Auntie made you gross things to eat which I'm certain you will love.

Besides, I miss you.

So, ankle surgery it is.

BUT I did get a prescription for one of those rolling broken leg scooter things. Which will make work 1000% easier.

AND I was told that I am allowed to go on my vacation.

So, the surgery isn't stressing me out that bad. I'm just glad to get it fixed.

But look out for the snow! 'Cause, you know, it will certainly add up quickly when it is 59 out.

They are calling for temps in the teens Sunday night, but it is expected to go right back up early next week. It just seems like it hasn't been very cold at all this season. I need a new pair of boots, but haven't found any I like. There have been maybe 2 days when I wished I had a pair.

Could you please post a pic of a rolling broken leg scooter? I can't picture this.

I'm glad you're managing well.

Rural, I bought a pair of LL Bean snow boots about 5 or 6 years ago. I've worn them once.

--------------------------

claudine, I wondered the same thing and googled "rolling broken leg scooter things" - they came right up in the search. I love google.

I am actually going to read this as a positive - she got under the bed by herself, right? that means she's doing okay (okay enough to decide "no, I want to be under the bed and BY MYSELF")... does she seem distressed? (they have that DAP diffuser if she's getting worked up - my dog who had anxiety attacks and doggie alzheimer's really benefitted from it)

on the other hand, I imagine it's upsetting to have her hiding under the bed
(( big hugs )) to both of you

Saria, an attorney here at my work has one of those umbrellas. It is pretty badass. I totally thought it was a samurai knife. I thought he was bringing it in for his collection of anime in his office.

Yeah. Its a cool umbrella. I'd get one.
