Ugh I found that one last night. Kids will be in need of some therapy. I don't know what people are thinking posting pictures like that. Yuck.

And then there are things that don't bother you (general you) because they aren't about you in the first place and don't affect you. For example, cultural appropriation doesn't bother you because it's not your culture being appropriated. Or my friend having the audacity to compare calling an annoying customer a ***** to calling a male one a dick when I call him out on it and trying to justify how he's referring to just one specific woman and not all women.
Seriously? My not being offended for being called a girl has all that historical significance? Who knew I was such a horrid person?

I give everyone all the right in the world to be offended by words and what they used to mean and how they are used.
I expect the same right to not be offended for myself. I'm not asking for a disagreement when I say that something doesn't bother me. I'm simply saying that something doesn't bother me! It's not all that deep.
No, the use of words like "female" and "girl" matter in a larger context. Whether you're offended by their use or not is irrelevant and doesn't change their effect.

When you (gy) feel the need to point out that something regarding social issues is "not that deep/serious" because it doesn't bother you, you're basically either purposely or inadvertently doing the "people are too sensitive/uptight" trivializing that many men (and women) are guilty of doing to keep everything in its place.

Springy, I am not going to stop doing it. I was taught to do it as a sign of respect. There is so little of that these days.

I am 95% sure my uterus is eating itself.

I've never had cramps bring me to my knees like they did last night. I mean I actually fell to my knees in my kitchen.

Whenever I hear "female" its always something negative.

"god, these females!"
"I can't stand these females"
"females need to leave my man alone" (someone just posted that on facebook.

i honestly think its where you are from or live. before facebook i never eally even heard "female" being used outside of science or a genreal discription of someone, "the female species..." or "the female victim..." but now i have reunited with friends from the pass via facebook, and there is a lot of how much they hate "females". i had no clue what they were talking about. but it was always so hateful or negative. now its just like, "no please stop."

I'm more surprised by the number of people who haven't befriended the crop tool or learned to scan the background for anything embarrassing. This is the digital age, there's no excuse for showing off unintentional photobombs!

I can't even begin to count the ways of wrong. Oh no!

Substitute "woman" or "women" for "female" (wtf am I quoting everything?) in your examples, and you are in my town.

*Example* "Damn dumb women drivers!"
"Women are the root of all evil!"
"Get in the kitchen, woman"

BUT

You can also find many lovely or standard/non negative examples of the word usage.

I didn't really notice it until we moved to CT and I got extremely strange looks and sometimes comments when I said it. I'll still say it to my mom and dad, of course. If we move back to the south maybe it will be ok again.

I never take offense to the word, but the person saying in a negative context might want to duck.

Springy,
You'd never survive 5:30am at my house. I'm usually up and bopping along and singing to my kitties as I feed them.

My opinions and how I feel about things are as relevant as anyone else's.
And my own opinions are or are not deep according to me and no one else.
You guys need to go pick on someone else now. I've been around the block and know that we need to pick our battles and wasting time talking about the word 'girl' is not even a battle as far as I'm concerned.
Again, the word doesn't offend me personally. Period. No deep hidden meaning going back hundreds of years. Girl = woman. No foul.

Speckla, as much as I adore you I'd most likely have to throw something at you. NOT Baby Calvin, so don't get your hopes up.

I said the exact same thing about girl/lady/etc, but got jumped on for it. So it must be only I who can't express a similar opinion.

Sometimes I feel like a little glowworm spreading joy to all the world. I think they are even better at it than puppies and rainbows. Maybe not as good as unicorns tho.
