The one I used to go to is next door to a bar. Which is well and good and all, but they smoke outside and it goes into the laundromat and I hate that. I feel like my clothes are going to smell like smoke before I even get manage to stuff them into my plastic bags.

I wash at home so I save the major expense. I wonder how much it costs though.... I'll have to check.
Yeah, 6 minutes. I mean New York mostly has it down to 8 minutes, which is still a rip-off, but at least the dryers are blazing hot, too. I actually spent $14 because they were still wet. $14 and I didn't even wash clothes. And my comforter is dirty. And not fully dry, but I was done waiting any longer.
Seriously, $7 tops because the machines are bigger and cheaper and you get more drying time in actually hot dryers!

I have to go to work as early as I can because the malechild worked the past two days and this was the prep list he made himself Sunday night.

Say It. I Dare You.-imageuploadedbycurltalk1363797439.339049.jpg

No beans which have to be soaked a day before then cooked.
No gratin which takes a long time to make and has to be pressed for a day and cut the next.
No fennel confit.
No potato charlottes which take about 20 potatoes cut julienne just to make six or so. Then have to be blanched, chilled, put into molds.
All these things have to be done around Sunday and Monday because the restaurant is closed those two days, leaving just bar and in-room service, so there is time to prep for the rest of the week ---- when it's often too busy to get anything done.

Dang. Even my stupid little town of ~2,000 people has like three 24-hour laundromats!

I've always wanted to open up a coffee shop/book store laundromat. Wouldn't that make doing laundry so much more bearable?

All of the laundermats by me have dryers that charge a quarter for 8 minutes. They all used to be for 10 minutes years ago, but they cut back on the time so that they could get more money. Was the front loader a small machine or a bigger machine, like a triple loader? If it was a triple loader, $3.25 is the going rate by me but it can vary by a quarter either way.

I'm not exactly a spring chicken either. I'm 43 and never been married myself. In this day and age, I personally think the minimum age for marriage should be 25, but that's no guarantee of anything as there are plenty of married people my age who aren't that mature either.

Yeah, it's pretty much like this in all NYC laundromats. Plus all the washers are front-loaders. None of this top-loader nonsense.
$3.25 for a really tiny front-loader here. The top-loaders are a little cheaper at $2.75, but basically the same size (the comforter takes up a top-loader all by itself. I don't like top-loaders though because I've always had issues with detergent not dissolving and clothes not getting as clean as front-loaders.

37 here and never been hitched. Sincerely, no offense when I say this, but anytime I hear someone in their early 20's upset because they are not married I think: Oh please! Someone in their late 30's thought that about me too, once upon a time. Just not when it comes to marriage. I was very anti marriage at 23. 16 year old me thought I would be hitched and have 2 kids by that age, or die a spinster. 23 year old me laughed. 37 no longer gives a damn.

Marriage is such an ~adult~ thing to do lol and if everyone else is doing it...

I know it's silly but sometimes I feel like I missed a "it's time to get married" memo.

Y'all, I am freaking out right now.

Yesterday, I took Danae to our family dentist because she'd broken a filling. She straight up had a panic attack and my dentist referred me to a local pediatric dentist, so I took her this morning. They did an exam and x-rays and discovered she has six (6!) cavities and two abcesses and will have to have those two teeth pulled. I was prepared to get a new filling, not $2500 worth of dental work. I think I need some laughing gas right now. I cried at the dentist's office. I'm sure he thinks I'm a loon but I couldn't help it. I'm in shock. I've been taking Danae to the dentist since she was three, guys. We go every 6 months for checkups. Why wasn't this noticed sooner? I'm so angry and I have no idea how I'm going to pay for all this. Our insurance only will cover half...ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it really depends on what circles you find yourself in.

Like, as a Protestant Christian, it's kind of viewed as weird that I'm not married or even engaged at 21. Most people are at least seriously dating someone by my age. My friends who go to Christian schools (even fairly "liberal" ones, as Christian schools go) feel the some pressure from "Ring by Spring." It's a real thing, you guys. Isn't that ridiculous?

However, males suck, so obvi I don't see the need to get married any time soon... Even if I do occasionally find myself thinking "omg. Is there something wrong with me?"

Dude, I've been filing referrals for 8 months now, you don't need to go over every step in the process every time. I get it.

Incredibly important memo that too many people miss. The ground work is almost down, but you still have a great deal of learning and growing to do. That continues for several years.

ohh I'm sorry! this happened to me last summer, I go every six months and when they were done with the "routine cleaning and check up" they told me I needed $4000 worth of work done (half covered by insurance) - I cried, too.
And, I'm not going back to that dentist, I'm going to start over with a new one.

Do you think the new dentist is exaggerating so he can price gouge? It's worth a second look.

I have several friends who experienced this - they are now early 30s and vascillate between "what's wrong with me" and "wow, I'm so glad I got to figure out who I am and what I like before I got married" (so many of their friends who married early are really struggling because they are very religious (divorce is not an option) and also very unhappy)

that being said, I think it is more difficult for them to find partners now, partially because they are saving themselves for marriage and many men similarly-aged aren't interested in that

I was watching a show on people who were waiting for marriage a few days ago, and pondering... I had this romantic notion that I would wait until marriage which quickly gave way to at least being madly in love. So madly in love happened in the back of a station wagon my senior year in high school, and I was convinced I would marry him... one day. K, then.

Even though things went very far from the idea I had in my head, I would not change a thing. I respect people who chose to wait, but after some unbefitting experiences life has tossed my way, I am trying him on first.

Holy CRAP, nynaeve!!!

How on earth do six cavities happen since her last checkup and they not see some evidence of it? I mean, wouldn't a dentist notice some of these cavities starting or can six cavities just pop up like that? (I'm really leery of the whole dental process right now so I'm quick to lay blame on the dental office for missing something.)

Poor Danae. I'm sorry she had a panic attack.
