Slang, to me, feels like you're trying to get around what you really want to say. You avoid saying what you really think by using a term instead of being direct. Plus, I just think they often sound ridiculous.

Anyway, I've never been into it. Even when I was young and hip (ha ha) I was constantly like, what? What does that even mean?

Its usually not an evolution of language. Its usually a trend that phases in and out like everything else.
Slang can start silly but end up rooted in the lexicon.

Also I consider it evolution when it comes from an older version of the word. Like swagger and swag. Swagger dates back to the 18th century.
I think it's creative.

Plus a lot of fake words become real after a fashion. See: normalcy

Me and my friend would be like "hopped up off the train, turned his swagggg on" Cause we totally made a parody of Soulja boy and draco malfoy.

I do use SOME slang. I certainly don't speak 'proper' all the time. But my use of slang is like 'cool' or 'neat'. If I'm really excited I may say 'awesome'.

If I say something like 'whateves' or 'totes' I do it in a silly voice bc I'm clearly being a goofball. I've talked to people who put together a string of slang and I'm like

Everyone in my office gets to work from home one day a week. I waited 1& 1/2 years before requesting it. My boss keeps avoiding telling me yes or no. He wants a little minion around all the time to do his bidding. He is afraid to tell me no straight out and keeps putting off the discussion. Sly.

I'm still hoping he'll say yes. If he says no I will quit in the fall if I can afford it. Being a secretary shouldn't mean being a second class citizen.

Best 1st day method: Super Soaker

Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.

I don't think I've met anyone who actually uses slang when not joke/or have fun/be lighthearted/ non serious.

It would be totes hilar. to teach a class to parents and children at work speaking with slang, but I'd only do that if I wanted to get fired.

Although I do say 'like' often. I try not to bc I don't want to sound annoying so I make sure I don't 'valley girl' insert it in constantly.

I would look ridiculous if I tried to pull off swag. Someone would look at me like, what did she say?
I can deal with slang. What drives me absolutely nuts is the ubiquitous "like."

And then I'm like....

And then she's like....
And then like, ... he's like....

So I like said, I'm like blah blah

STFU!!!!! I don't like it.

The poor boy we trained weekend before last...

He would make a mistake while giving a call out and say, "oops, my bad". We chuckled the first time and told him what to say but by the 5th time I was getting stabby. What part of, "correction" do you not understand? 254, correction, 255 King St. It is shorter, and not that difficult. Just like saying yes or 10-4 rather than yeah or okay should not be difficult to grasp.

Work is me is completely different animal. I shorten everything to be concise and precise. You can not ramble for days when keyed up on a radio. The repeater will shut down. Day to day, screw it, I am rambling like a halfway normal human.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I am always worried someone will ask me a question and I will say 10-4 rather than yes or 10-10 rather than no. Remember, people do not speak in 10 codes.

I randomly will break into 10 codes when talking to people 10 years after having the job that required it! I'll call people and ask them what their 20 is. They're like what?! Uh, how long are you going to be, sorry...

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
^ Right.

What time should we 25?
What?
Meet! What time should meet?
Am I woman or machine? Lol

I have to be careful with other departments as well. Their codes are slightly different. I could end up telling someone they have a man with a gun as opposed to a disabled motorist. Huge difference on that one.

Well this is just perfect timing.

Just don't tell the 14 yo. She will blame her "friend".

The man gets a break from school in June. I think we may plan a trip to Niagara Falls! Neither one of us have been and we've both really wanted to go. I've heard the Canadian side is better so I think we'll do that.

Another place I really want to go is Lake Louise. But one thing at a time.
