Lard Gawd above, I can nit understand Baptist Churches. Yes, I was raised baptist. I went to a few different baptist churches. Really, other than methodist, there were no other options here until the late 80's and early 90's. Anyway, back on track, I swear they will fight with a rock. Every baptist church in my area has had at least 3 major blow ups, and break downs within the church, and all over the dumbest s**t on the planet. I was lending an ear to my co worker today, who is very upset over the state of her church. They booted out the preacher because they thought his wife had cooked a meal for the church and he lied and took credit for it. His wife was sick, and could not cook, so he did make the meal himself. What kind of dumbassery is that? Who cares? But it is always something of this nature. That is why I decided I was simply not meant to be baptist many years ago. I could not deal with all the petty BS. That and I am not too keen on the women should know their place attitude in the church either. It's strange to me that in my co workers church around $400 is spent on the male members for father day every year. They get 3 gifts each. The women get a single carnation each with a mothers day poem printed off the computer. My co worker was also talking about how upset and sad she is, but that she can not express how she feels because she knows her place in the church. Personally, I would not be a member of any church where I could not share my opinion or feelings.

Our Lutheran Church has a female minister, a methodist church close to here has a gay minister and a straight congregation. I never hear of squabbles with them. Just the freaking baptists. My childhood preacher (who I love because he is nice, talks to you, and doesn't scream at you) was kicked out twice because he was seen sitting at a table of 20 in a restaurant and some of the people he was with were drinking, and again because he (who is widowed) married a divorced woman. That's another reason why I love him so I had not been at the church in years but I wanted to walk in and scream lighten up you f**king idiots.

I don't know why I felt like ranting about that, but I did.

My Pug's back is acting up. Now I have to go see if I can find some joint supplement stuff at Meijers or Walmart and crate her for the 3 days and see if that helps.

Wow, Fifi. People pretty much keep quiet at my Episcopalian church, as far as I know (I don't attend much). The priest is gay, the choir tries hard, and it's.......really pretty dull.

Why do I still think of Two and Half Men as a relatively new show?
No MAS.

Sigh. I've been watching Songcatcher this morning, and thinking of my dad/my family. For those of you who have never seen the movie, it is loosely based on a a true story of a song collector who came to my mountains and discovered old Scottish and English ballads, which had died out there many years before, were still being sung here. The movie was filmed in my area as well. Many of the songs were ones that my grandmaw sang to my dad, her mom sang them to her, her mom to her, so on and so on... Even though Emmy Rossum is in no way, shape, form, or fashion a mountain (holler) girl, she did such a good job singing like one. She was only 14 when she did this movie.

Iris DeMent did an exceptional job as well, but she's from Arkansas. So that's getting closer.

Another song featured in the movie, but I picked an old Stanley version. The origins of this one (originally a poem) have been disputed, and it's really quite interesting to read about. It's a spiritual found from Texas to Georgia, and could possibly date back to the 1500 but some say the 1800's. It's not about The Hatfield & McCoy's or from Supernatural as some idiots believe. Never the less, this video shows old pic's of people in the Appalachian Mountains. Oh Death or Conversation with Death.

^ Speaking of Dolly, and Coat of Many Colors, has anyone heard the rest of the story behind that? She grew up in a Mountain cabin (read shack) close to those pictured in the Oh Death video. Anywho, the day she wore her coat to school, some of the girls who were teasing her grabbed it, and ripped it off her. She didn't have a shirt on under it. At that point she didn't have a shirt that fit right or wasn't ripped to shreds so she just wore her coat, buttoned all the way up. Ah! I can't watch a video of her singing that live without crying. She gets emotional, every time.

Dear Stoneground Wheat Crackers,

I'll bet you thought I wouldn't notice that the little red plastic sack sealer is missing. Well, I have, and I do. And frankly, I'm disappointed in you as a result.

Fifi, your papa had *excellent* taste in music!

i do love Dolly Parton; my nana took me to Dollywood 25 years ago on a very warm November day when they had just re-opened for the xmas season and it was so incongruous to see all the xmas decorations when it was 73F outside (it was already snowing in Toronto).

we bought a tape of her greatest hits and sang along with it all the way to Macon the next day!!

my papa fancied himself to be Tom Jones:

OMG! that thunderstorm last night was horrendous!

we got a tornado warning at 7:00 pm and just before 8:00 the storm hit. for about 15 minutes, the wind and rain and hail and lightning were wild.

as it was starting, i remembered that my recycling bins were unsecured on the front porch and went out to get them. at that moment, a massive lightning bolt hit one of the condo buildings about 3 blocks from me. i barely had time to flatten myself against the wall when the shock wave of the thunder hit. my house shook and my ears still feel funny this morning...

Awww. You went when it was just a hole in wall. I loved it then. It started out so tiny, with just a few rides and more shows. Now it's huge! Especially between it and the water park. I was shocked at the difference when I went with my youngest nephews a few years ago. I have this fantasy that I will one day go there and meet her, and I will tell her about the coat of many colors my grandmaw (there has to be a w on the end of it, damn it) made for me. We will be best friends after that. Lol. I adore her. Anyone who goes on tv and tells a old story about "wanting to be trash" when she grows up, just like the woman in her town who dressed skimpy and therefore everyone called her trash, is fantastic in my book.

Tom Jones! That's always an excellent pick.

60% or 70% chance of bad storms today! Yay!
