Yes, this, too. I have a chronic illness that leaves many disabled and unable to work and they have to fight to get help, then I see others like you described above.

So I got my moronic phone upgraded to a smart phone (Iphone 4) for free! This mother is heavy! I could throw it at someone's head and kill them.

I think it does everything except stop frizz. Now that would truly be a smart phone. It sports umpteen icons and doo dads, up down, sideways, in out - ye gods and little fishes. I am supposed to figure out how they work? Ma Bell, where are you when I need you?

It is incredibly frustrating. I don't know what you do to fix a system that has been broken for so long or to break the cycle of system abusers. That is common in my area. People who need help either refuse to ask, or refuse to leave. Last ETA: I've mentioned the well documented "Mountain Pride" here before, in terms of benefits. The not asking is well engrained in many of us. It's viewed as a part of our heritage. You don't take unless you can give back, be it ever so small. It's a great thing, but also a stubborn thing ** Grandparents, their children, their children, and you can guarantee their children will live off the system as well. It's a dependency. I know the job market is in shambles right now. I want, more than anything, to see more jobs being created. Even if they were, I still know many people would not even bother. While I am grateful that we have benefits, and that people who really need them can get them, I in no way think people who are able to provide for themselves should live off of them. Especially when people who work full time honestly need some temporary assistance, or have reached a point where they can no longer work, can't get help. That's like nails on a chalk board to me. Really infuriating that people would be better off quitting their job or reducing hours to under 30 a week. It's like locking someone up because they didn't pay child support, and not letting them out for work release. You'll never get ahead.

When it comes to the phone thing... You have a right to be able to call 911 during an emergency. That is why disconnected home and cell phones still have that ability, but... Other than that, it's not an entitlement. Eeeeeeeeeee.

I got a nap in, finished work early. Went to pick up Finlay at my parents' (they are testing fire alarms at my apt so he's with them for the day). I fell asleep on their couch. Woke to everyone else napping, too (including the dogs).

It's a good day for a nap!

I had to run to town quickly, and I witnessed an angry mob, with good reason. There is a local man who is in his mid 50's now, and he is autistic. He's pretty high on the spectrum, a d he is a very sweet genius. He memorized the town/county records, along with records in every church, during his teens. If you are local, he will walk up to you and say, "You are ..., you were born on ... to (name your parents). They were married on ... at ... Church, at 2:00 pm. He is mind blowing, and we love him. Some drunk guys were apparently giving him a hard time, and they were chased by citizens and the law. That is the second time it has happened, in all the years I have lived here. You do not mess with him. You will be attacked and ran out of town. He is so kind to everyone, he just goes place to place reading everyday, doesn't bother anyone, and does not deserve that.

Still speaking of naps... Fingers crossed I can take another before 7:30 am. I have to be at my moms by 8 and sleep does not like me right now. 2-3 hours at a time is the most I will allow.

Found out last night that an ex-colleague's husband had died, very unexpectedly, at the weekend. She's been working away for the last couple of years and I just can't imagine what it was like for her to get that phone call. They have no children and her family are in Europe. Lovely people, I'm just so sad for her.

^ I am sorry, Starmie and very sorry for your friend.

I finally napped for a little while, but I still can't wake up. I need to. I need to do a quick clean up and paint my nails.

this is probably not related to Monday's storm, but it's hard to tell.

I started a detox diet yesterday to try to lose these darn 10 lbs I've put on. Jim needs to stop cooking/taking me out. I was fine yesterday. Today...toots & poops. I just want to go home and soak in a hot tub.

Facebook people. Who cares if it took someone a little while to respond to your completely unimportant text message? If it's not an emergency, need to know a.s.a.p... chill out and don't impose time limits on someone else. No one has to punch in and out on your time clock, and people are not on your demand. Not saying I don't stress and rant about things, but I swear some of the things others stress about blow my mind. No wonder you stay in a tizzy. Haha, that reminds me. My bestie texted yesterday saying he had spent the whole day completely stressed out because he had to work the next day. He realized, at 10pm, that it was Tuesday and not Wednesday. He didn't have to work the next day. I asked why he was stressing so bad. It will be waiting tables on a slow thursday, same old same old, and he said, "because I don't feel like putting on a fake smile and talking/being nice to people". Good luck finding a job that doesn't involve some form of that. At least you love your co workers, and never fear!! You'll have all day tomorrow to stress out again.

^ yes, he did. I would love to see him get out of his bedroom on a day off and not just lay there, thinking of things to worry about.

Hate hate hate when I go out of my way for an eBay customer, discount the price because of a listing error, supply updates about the shipping, package the item safely and securely (unlike many eBay sellers), keep all my promises, yet they can't be bothered to give feedback.

Thanks.

I've now seen Thor and I enjoyed it more than I did The Avengers. I recall people saying it was boring so I hadn't bothered, but I think I connected more to both the good and bad emotions in Thor. Nothing was that special, though, except for OMG, the character work they did with Loki. No wonder I saw people being annoyed at how he was used in Avengers! IDK if I'd've taken issue with that - I don't care to rewatch to find out. But anyway. As I said on FB, my EMOTIONS. His scene with Odin...oh, my heart. Oh, the high fives I want to give Tom Hiddleston for his performance.

I now want to see Thor 2 when it comes out and it is entirely to see what happens next in Loki's wrathful, broken-hearted character arc.

I'm mad.

(and yes, I realize it's a "First World Problem")

I work for a school district and next week I'll be done for the summer. Usually this is about 4 weeks off, sometimes a bit more. The new duty schedules came out today and it's only 3 weeks. I'm really mad.

That last week I'm off I'll be in court (a family member was murdered last year and the trial begins the first week of August) - I was really hoping I'd have some decompression time after the trial before I have to show up back at work (I think it'll be a relatively short trial, not that I know much about such things, but there is only one possible suspect and all evidence supports that).

I was really looking forward to my time off and now I'm just pissed.
And, yes, I realize that I'm lucky to get the time off that I do get, but also I don't get "vacation days" so all of my off time is on the calendar provided for me, and now I'm shorted a week. GRRRRRR

and in a few hours, I'll be excited that I will be off for the time I get, but right now GGRRRRRR
