I'm mad.

(and yes, I realize it's a "First World Problem")

I work for a school district and next week I'll be done for the summer. Usually this is about 4 weeks off, sometimes a bit more. The new duty schedules came out today and it's only 3 weeks. I'm really mad.

That last week I'm off I'll be in court (a family member was murdered last year and the trial begins the first week of August) - I was really hoping I'd have some decompression time after the trial before I have to show up back at work (I think it'll be a relatively short trial, not that I know much about such things, but there is only one possible suspect and all evidence supports that).

I was really looking forward to my time off and now I'm just pissed.
And, yes, I realize that I'm lucky to get the time off that I do get, but also I don't get "vacation days" so all of my off time is on the calendar provided for me, and now I'm shorted a week. GRRRRRR

and in a few hours, I'll be excited that I will be off for the time I get, but right now GGRRRRRR

Not that many of us can help what is going on. Many didn't vote for these people, and we had no control over secret sessions and bills being snuck through. As I read over everything I only saw one item on the list that didn't piss me off. I've had to show ID to get another ID, a diploma, checks cashed, beer, an account at a video store, etc. It won't kill me to show it when I vote. Other than that, get out of my face. My friends who teach have been so upset.

**And this is again where I say... If you cut something, cut free cell phones rather than funding for disabled children, or unemployment. Free basic land line services were already provided for years. People get laid off or fired from factories here, every other day, since the 80's.

They are also messing with food programs. Some places that provide at least 1 or 2 meals for the elderly every week are facing closure.

I should have known better than to have a large glass of caffeine and go to the store after work. Wired. At least my shopping is done, and I was alert enough to drive.

Mini Rant:
How did I somehow miss the news/debate over people on public assistance being entitled to free cell phones a couple years ago? #1. I hate the word "entitled", with a passion, which is bad for me because it's thrown around all the time now. I'm sorry, but no you are not entitled to free cell phones because they provide peace of mind, and everyone is entitled to peace of mind. If that were true... I don't know what people expect, aside from everything. The US debt total is stomach turning yet more bleepty bleep is added on, for everyone else to pick up, every day. I doubt I will see what I have been paying into... the social security or retirement benefits my parents did, if at all, but enjoy your free phone as others enjoy their pay checks continuously reducing. * 4 Billion Dollars in 2011.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad assistance is there for people who need it. I think many programs are fantastic, but last time i checked a cell phone does not feed, keep you warm, or put clothes on your back.

Man up, marry this woman or at least acknowledge that you live with her, so the largely unneeded benefits she receives can be directed elsewhere. These women are raking in sometimes as much as $2500 worth of benefits/month and are living w/ a SO who is bringing in his own income that they don't declare. And meanwhile, ppl truly in need are going hungry and doing w/o meds and basic necessities.

Saying this is not racist; ppl of all ethnicities do this.

Early therapy (speech, etc) for kids with disabilities seems to be the main things mentioned. It still makes me nervous for my cousin, and many kids like her. She has down's, and she got some help from early programs. She is a junior in high school now. Her mom was scared to death, but it has been great for her. She has been in some of the best programs at school, and she even got a special spot/job on the cheerleading team Her ability to learn has in ways reached it's limits, in many ways, but they have gone above and beyond in helping her make the most of her knowledge. She currently has the prospect of attending high school 2 years after graduation, in order to learn a trade. She has developed a strong bond with her teachers, they know their students strength and weaknesses well. This helps them continue that growing relationship, rather than starting over with someone new. With the way they are slashing education ...

I can't see a cell phone as an entitlement. Most people let their cell phone and cable go when they are having a hard financial time, because it's a luxury. You're not out there driving a $70,000 dollar car, carrying a coach bag, while starving to death.

You sell that car, get a used something that runs, but the bag on ebay, and do what you can.

ETA: I've read some articles about how television shapes the stereotypes for people on welfare, etc. That may be true for some. I've never thought it was primarily one ethnicity or gender or ... What shaped me was getting off the bus at DSS (on and off, many times, from 6th-11th grade). I stayed out in the parking lot, most of the time. In my town, men were always the worst to walk out with food stamps (when they had the paper coupons) and sell them. People would be waiting out in the parking lot for them. I know 2 of them were the biggest pot suppliers in town. I over heard a great deal of stuff, for many years, and watched enough stuff happen in front of me to form my opinions AND what I saw/heard from some is also why I still support and think highly of several programs.

I won't even get started on people who think of creative ways to get their hands on per cap, and large tax refunds. My experience in a tax office was interesting, to say the least.

Did they change something with obtaining a copy too? One of BF's friends was saying he could not get a copy of his BC, to get a new ID. It was all stolen from his car as he was moving to another state. *His mom couldn't get the copy for him, I should say. He moved back home. Idk if that was true or not. He has some problems and comes up with sob stories in an attempt to get more $$ from people. I thought that was strange because as far as I know your parents can or could apply for copy.

** And of course obvious citizenship concerns, and problems elderly might have. Most the women in my area who never drove, and might have issues getting an ID, have passed away, but there are still a pretty good number. That was a large common. I did see that some states allow a copy of a bill as ID, and that's at least not so bad/cut & dry.

^ At the same time, it's those elderly women that I see getting taken advantage of during elections. That makes me livid. Many of that generation did not get past 6th grade, some were lucky enough to make it to 8th before needing to help help family full time. Women did a large amount of hard labor, just like the men, but at home. Most didn't drive and typically men handled the finances.

Don't you hate it when you get in the shower and realize you have forgotten something. In my case it was shaving cream. I really needed a weed eater. I had not touched them since breaking out in a rash.

Nothing is working right on my phone and I am too lazy to dig for the what are you eating right now thread. So...

My mom made 2 chocolate cakes from scratch today. It's for a sad gathering. Her former co worker of many years, and a magnificent friend, is not doing well. Her daughter called and let her former co workers know that she was nearing the end. A large group of them are going to spend the day with her and her daughter tomorrow, and they are bringing a feast. Mom made a wise decision. She cut a few pieces of cake for me, and it is divinity. The chocolate cake is so moist, and perfect. You poke holes in it and put the chocolate icing on while it's hot. Most of it sinks into the cake, and it leaves a perfect layer on top. This will make me very happy when I get the 3pm blah's tomorrow.

I get so annoyed with comments about welfare. Yes, the system is broken, I don't know a single person on welfare/assistance who isn't struggling. I don't know a single one that has a all these fancy things people love to mention. Are there oddballs, that have off them? Perhaps. Are there some that have one of these "luxuries"? Yes. But no one I know who is an assistance is living the good life
Scrills, I know many who are no where near living the good life too. Fraud is a common occurrence, in and out of government businesses, corporations, small business, churches, on and on. I've never been able to understand it when people act like it couldn't possibly exist in the welfare system. We're talking about people here :-/ I promise I would never make up anything about the things I have seen. It just frustrates me for the many more who actually do need it.
