What an annoying afternoon. I went to town to buy some more charms for my bracelet. The store that sells them is not carrying them anymore and they have them marked 50% off, which is great because they are not cheap. I was only buying a charm here and there. Anywho, my cousin (in laws) own a outdoor clothing/supply store next door. My actually cousin owns a small, home town, restaurant beside that. Yada, yada... I went into the clothing store because it's tax free clothes weekend! As I was looking around, the 2 guys they employ were bashing anyone and everyone who had came in to shop there. They were going through receipts, saying peoples names, *****ing because they bought their child a good pair of cleats for baseball, etc. They were screaming WAKE UP AMERICA!! GO TO WALMART!! I came so close to saying STFU AND DO YOUR JOB!! Granted, the place is very high dollar. I rarely go in there. It is geared for wealthy tourists who think they need to be wearing head to toe North Face to take a walk in the woods. There is a market for it, and the ladies are pretty damn smart for providing it. Be glad they hired you, and quit your b**ching.

On occasion they have very beautiful sun dresses on sale, which is why I went in. I try to get one every summer once it's been marked down. That way I am supporting a local business, as opposed to giant stores who put locals out of business. I found one, I love it, and the little idiots just had to get over themselves as they looked at me with distain because I asked for a bag to put the dress in. Sorry. My eco friendly bag is full, River Rat.

Thanks, Claudine. It's very comfortable, and I love comfortable clothes.

Speaking of clothes... I really do hope people will push for more Made in America items. That has been a tough one. My town used to be filled with sewing plants. We made marching band uniforms, bed clothes, children's clothes (Buster Brown had 2 plants here), winter coats and jackets (Burlington), NASCAR jackets and other specialty embroidered jackets for numerous clubs/activities. They employed so many people, and provided very good wages at that time. The faster you sewed, the more you made. By the time I turned 18 the last remaining few were closing. I went to classes with so many women in their 50's and 60's who were trying to learn another trade. Many had a great deal of medical bills and had to work. They all seemed to love their former job. They were switched to different stations, after so many months, so things didn't get boring. The working conditions were good. They also employed many men and women who either quit school or had just graduated. It was a great thing. I would love to see that come back. I'll continue to look at Walmart sideways while they break promises and drive mom & pop business into the ground. Yes, sometimes I have to shop there, but I would much rather buy from the last locally owned grocery store, even if it is more expensive.

**Going to a clothing store with my Aunt, who worked at Buster Brown all her life, is always a fun experience. She has to check every stitch in the clothing. "All crap!!" she says I remember the days when a shirt would last years, and years, and years.

Other than that... Blah. I want to go back to bed, but I can't.

I jusg needed to sleep a little longer today. I was up until 5am, and popped up at 11. It's going to be a long night.

All I can say right now is... PEOPLE!! One person quit, they hired the new girl, and before she was trained another person on the same shift quit. They hired a new guy who has several years experience, with a different agency. Great! No need to train him, he knows the area, and he could just walk in and get to it. He requested almost a 2 month wait, before he started, so he could work his notice and take care of a few things. He was supposed to come in yesterday, and never showed up. He called 3 hours later to say he could 't take the job. Thanks for that! Someone else could have been hired and trained by now. It's not my shift, but it's frustrating for all of us. Almost everyone who walks in ends up being a total bust.

My nephew is so cute. He comes in from med school in 3 weeks. He keeps sending me emails and PM's. He misses his Auntie Fifi, and I miss him. I have a feeling he worries about me and my mom a lot and hates being so far away.

I'm going to have to figuratively beat the dispatcher back into my partner. She's gotten a little excited since joining a fire department, and she wants to send full response to everything. If I don't have to wake people up, or pull them out of their day jobs (all fire & rescue here are volunteer), I won't. #1. People freak out when emergency responders approach now. I am amazed at the difference. People slam on their brakes and sit in the middle of the road, turn their cars sideways in the road and whip out the cell phone, panic and swerve from lane to lane. They're trying to get to a house fire or heart attack or wreck... Not coming to take you away. They don't have that power Anywho, it's dangerous. There is a high increase for traffic accidents between citizens when emergency responders pass through. I always pick the safest response for everyone. She's just so excited, and loves going on calls when she's off, so she lights everyone up. I am sure the ones who have been on the dept for 20 years love this (said with sarcasm). I was paged at 2 am for a wreck that is not blocking the road and no one is injured??? What? It's hard enough weeding through callers who exaggerate thinking it will get units there faster, and they will get a report quicker, only to find that the fire dept can't work the wreck for them. You still have to wait on that trooper, and our former governor reduced the numbers to bare bones. It can't be helped. I digress. She just needs to pull it back a little. I know she's thinking better safe that sorry along with her WOOOO!! but there is more than one responsible option for that.

"Vodka boycott in the US spreads concerns over gay rights in Russia" might be one of the dumbest headlines, ever. Reports of gruesome torture, murder, and assault spreads concern. I'm not quite sure what banning vodka from a company who has been shouting "we support gay rights!" (which is rather dangerous for them to do given that propaganda or advertising "loose morals" can land you in jail) has to do with anything. Same goes for the Olympics. That is not the main issue. Ugh The Olympics will become a secondary, I am sure, but I hate the way our media is focusing on that and vodka.

I sincerely wish the SMUS would stop with the "banning" on a moral high ground whim. The reactionary choices rarely make sense, yet they catch on like wild fire and actually end up prohibiting freedoms in the day to day. (Not talking about a drink specifically in this instance).

^^^i am worried about the Olympics...

you have Putin saying the athletes and teams from other countries are safe and then you've got the Minister responsible for enforcing this law saying "yes, we'll enforce it and toss 'em all in jail".

Brian Orser is an out gay man who happens to be the coach of several people who will be going to the Olympics. if someone interviews him and asks him what he thinks about the law and he says "i think it's stupid" is he going to land in jail. do my government and the Canadian Olympic Association tell him to do his coaching and keep his head down?

are the Russians going to Google every potential gay athlete, broadcaster, coach, Olympic official and arrest them en masse when they set foot in the country?

(yeah, okay, that's hyperbole...)

as much as i don't want to see another boycott of the games - because i LOVE them - i think we need to consider it.
