Thank you to everyone for all of the support! Happy happy happy to report that the jury took less than 4 hours to deliver verdict. Guilty of capital murder. Life, no parole.
The victim was an infant. Her father was found guilty.
It's been a long road.

i'm baaaaaaaccccckkkkk.....

did you miss me????

that was a week in hell for sure!

mom was released from the hospital on Monday; it turns out the internal bleeding was caused by her new arthritis meds - Cellebrex. she had started it at the beginning of July.

which begs the question; WHY did they put it back on the market????

now she is off ALL anti-inflammatories for 6 months.

which means she is next to incapable of doing anything for herself...

but really.... i'm 53 years old, i don't think she needs to stand over my shoulder and criticize the way i wash dishes....

my sister and i packed and packed and packed boxes.

and last night we had a lovely dinner of very good steak and French champagne for *her* 50th birthday!

yes, my "little" sister is 50. i am officially OLD!

guess which idiot forgot her debit card at a store this morning - 200 miles away????

i'm just off to the bank now to get a replacement, but i had to check in with my curlfriends.

for anyone who needs one:

PerriP - good news; i am relieved for your family.

i've MISSED you guys!!!

On today's episode of socially awkward, being overly thankful for something minor because you couldn't remember if you said it.
^ You and your social awkwardness make me smile, if that counts for anything.

Well, I had to take my fuzzy girl to the vet today. She had hurt her leg, they pumped her full of pain meds, she is still loopy and acting strange, and they discovered a heart murmur. My normal vet wasn't in. It was some newer, younger girl who said heart murmur, put her on a diet to take the strain off her heart (even though she had only gained 2 lbs), and quickly recited a laundry list of symptoms of heart failure I should look out for. I only heard 2. ETA: That's partly because she waited until we were in the waiting room, which was full of people and barking dogs, to tell me this. I will google and talk to her vet later. Blah.

SL's thread has me pondering why some women let go of friends after having children or getting a divorce but men don't. (Not talking of her situation in particular) I've known women who scream until men stop hanging around with specific people, but if they split, they're back in the man cave. Haha. I've always found it to be an odd common. It does happen often. Women (of course this doesn't include all) want to let go of people during specific points in their life.

Missed you, Rou!! I'm glad they figured out what Celebrex was doing to your mom I hope she feels better soon, and stops criticizing dish washing. Doubtful, right?

My grandma was the worst to boss people around when she could no longer do for herself, and she would sit in her kitchen chair and smile the whole time she gave orders.

^ my mother is very good at criticizing everyone's attempt at any job, especially if it's a job she needs completed. And, she's mostly capable of doing these things herself, she's just worked herself into a state of thinking she can't and is spoiled by my dad who does it for her (and listens quietly to the constant input on how he's screwing it up)

I feel for you, rou (and I'm glad you are back)

So I posted this in a few other locations, and thought I would share it her too. Especially since it has been updated. This bothers this **** out of me, and very much so concerns me, kids or no kids.

This particular story is set in Somerset UK, but reaches all with a FB account. To top it off, the established law that keeps sex offenders from using FB and Twitter is being reversed, thanks to the ACLU. It has happened in more than one state, and is highly likely to happen in more.

http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/1858517

I am more than well aware of how many people on the SOR do not really belong there. I have always had several issues with 18 years old boys being put on the registry who did have consensual sex with a girl just a couple years younger than them. Being young & dumb, and your parents finding out and flipping out, has ruined many lives. I feel bad for them but screw predators like the ones mentioned above, and many more like them. It is sickening that Facebook has been ordered to remove their sex offender monitoring page. I have gotten calls from Internet Crimes Divisions, who were monitoring sex offenders, that have saved peoples lives. By all means, lets take that ability away.

I suspect the ACLU is busy defending their own violated rights by government monitoring at the moment. Yes that is something I have mixed emotions on, but in some cases it is highly needed, and there is a large difference in following a news article and having the ability to lure children into harm. Something that has been monitored and used as public safety information for many years, and is along the same premiss of convicted felons not being allowed to have guns. Anyway, I am sure the ACLU will get back to defending the rights of convicted child molesters soon.

I havn't been in this thread forever, so bear with me!!!!

The sleep thread brought back memories of my mamaw. She was rough on my mom and her siblings. You went to bed early, woke up before the sun came up, made your bed, started working (milk cow, etc...) before school or all day when you didn't have school, and you better not lay down on the bed again unless you were almost dead. She let the grand kids go crazy and take naps. Mom would always say... Who are you?

I just realized I have not seen an actual writing spider since living here. I used to see tons at the old house. They did the most fantastic webs. Zig Zags, pictures of spiders within the web... Amazing, from a distance

We head to court this morning for the murder trial. Any and all curly t & p would be appreciated. I'm hoping/praying for a quick and decisive verdict and as little drama as possible. I imagine emotions will be running high on both sides of the courtroom. We've been told this "should be" done in about a week, but could be less (and could be more, of course). Hoping for less.

What flavor of Kool-aid would go well with Tequila? (I'm making the syrup for the drunken snow cones tonight). Any suggestions for a kool-aid margarita or kool-aid sunrise?

This one part of the USA Today article gets me

"The broad prohibition in the 2008 law hinders legitimate, constitutionally protected online interactions with other adults at a time when that form of communication is as common and necessary as the telephone was just a few years ago, Falk said."

What about the fact the with the internet comes a whole new set of crimes and abilities to carry them out? It's okay for someone to be caught and convicted of harboring hundreds on child porn pictures on their computer, as many people have, but God forbid you take away such an important constitutional right as Facebook and Twitter!?!? You can't take away their "social traffic". Okay then. That is the very definition of f**ktarted. See Somerset UK for proof. I support the bill of rights (I would have loved to continue this conversation elsewhere but I can no longer log in) which was was written long before the interwebs. I support ALL of them. This is why I was so upset with the Rolling Stone deal. I know numerous people who searched for the publication, in several different states, and were never able to find it, thanks to the feelings of some on yet another social media campaign. BUT I also see where protection is needed and warranted in some situations. I feel bad for some of my friends who were convicted of non violent felonies and have lost several rights (just as I don't see the set up for SOR being 100% perfect) but I understand why the loss of specific rights, after a crime, is important and needed in many felonious cases. I understand why some laws and agencies are in place.

On a different FB note... I wonder how the Indonesian man is who was tied to a vehicle and drug behind it, for several miles, and jailed for talking about being Atheist on FB. You never hear anything about that story anymore. It fizzled quickly after his incarceration.

CC, that seems to be a common with many grandma's & great grandma's. You didn't lay around You were up and at it.

Writing spiders do the neatest work. It is cartoon like. Again, not a huge spider fan, but even I can admit they are beautiful spiders. I love the bright yellow splashes of color on them. They are artists

Today at the end of yoga class, the studio owner asked to speak to me. She asked if I'd consider being the next student featured in the studio newsletter I just have to write a little blurb for her about why I enjoy yoga. Then she asked if I'd be one of the studio "ambassadors" , who basically just make new people feel welcome, help them with question or if they need encouragement.
I was very touched, I love my yoga practice and I'm so lucky to live so close to a great studio.
I needed some "feel good" this week!

okay... this makes NO sense....

why would Greyhound have an advance fare to Toronto of $29 (one way), but one way to Hamilton - which is closer to Windsor than Toronto is $58.50?????

since it's a milk-run bus and stops in Hamilton on the way to Toronto, i should just buy the Toronto fare and get off in Hamilton...
